Questions about Shimano IX Rear Drag Freshwater Spinning Reel
Q:
Can you change the spool so you can change different weight lines?
Answer: Yes it does not come with an extra spool so you have to find the right one for that reel
Answer: yes if you can find the same spool.
Answer: The reel does not come with a spare.
Q:
How do I remove the spool because when I twist it to the left the spool stays on and makes drag sounds
Answer: When you say to the left, is that from looking at it from the top? Because I had to remove mine recently and it came off no problem. Also try tighting the drag at the bottom and if it doesn't work in one direction try the other.
Answer: Tighten your drag down more then you should be able to take it off
Answer: Push in on front of spool. Should pop right off. Does not "screw" on/off.
Answer: I don't know. I didn't have any problem with this reel...Sorry ;(
Q:
Would this work with 12lb line
Answer: Of course even a 20lb but remember to just find the thinest line that you could.
Answer: 12lb works great with it. Get a good rod and your set.
Answer: It will work but not very well I use 2-4
Answer: Yes. I use 14 myself.
Answer: Yes
Q:
Do it include a pole?
Answer: no it dont
Answer: No
Q:
I had a new one of the 4000 series just fail on me. I was testing it out before going fishing, for the first time with it. Then the drag just stopped?
Answer: I haven't had that happen to me....I'd send it back. By the way, when not in use, the drag on a spinning reel should be kept very light, hardly on. This way the springs don't get stressed while it's just sitting.
Answer: I would add too, wash the reel off with fresh water, after every single time you use it in the saltwater. I do this with all my reels, and it helps, a lot.
Q:
Which model is the first size option? i can't tell if it is the r1000, r2000, etc. the 4.1:l label is the gear ratio, which is the same for all mode
Answer: The 1000 is the smallest. If I remember correctly, it is recommended for 2-6 lb line. The 2000 I just looked at says 6-8-10 lb. 4000 is pretty big and says 8-10-12
Answer: The only thing I have seen is the that the 1000 has a smaller spool. If you put the 1000 next to 2000 the 2000 holds more line . Personally I crappie fish , I don’t need the extra line .
Answer: i have 4000 , it seems ok for casting 10g- 30g but i prefer it for short surf fishing

Q:
Will the ix 4000r work with a medium action rod
Answer: A 4000 reel will work on virtually any rod made for spinning reels. The IX4000 will hold plenty of line for fighting almost any fresh water and virtually all inshore salt water fish. I have caught Snook, Tarpon, Spanish and King Mackerel, Tuna, etc. with a Shimano IX4000 reel. The drag will not be able to be set for lines heavier than 20#, but I sometimes use 30# braid and having the drag set a little low does not hurt me at all.
Answer: Light to med would be fine you can even use a heavy action rod but that wouldn't make much sense because the string for this real would be a light to medium test but it would work
Answer: yes, little large but will work. Great reels.
Answer: He's a little small for medium but will work
Answer: Yes, my grandson used it with a medium rod,
Q:
1) For the ix2000r and ix4000r respectively, how big (weight) of fishes can you get on average? Do you put heavier lines on the 4000r?
Answer: I purchased the 2000 model, but I use it for fresh water fishing, the 4000 model is more for salt water fishing as far as weight of a fish each one could support, I'm sorry but I wouldn't be able to tell you. Check with a local bait and tackle shop I'm sure they would be able to answer your question.
Answer: Hi, I use 14 or 17 pnd test.... on all of them... Dont know for stronger line...
Q:
The picture is upside down?
Answer: lol Not upside down but one twist to the left. the arms where it attaches to the reel in the photo are on bottom. The drag in the photo is on the right which in a correct photo is facing down.
Answer: Yes
Answer: Yes
Answer: yes it is
Answer: yes it is
Q:
Big reel for fishing big fish
Answer: I have used the Shimano IX4000 reel to catch Snakeheads in fresh water here in South Florida, and Snook, Sea Trout, Tarpon, Spanish and King Mackerel, Tuna, Cobia, etc. in salt water. My son caught a 46 inch long Snook on an IX2000 so these reels really work well and hold up better that they should for what they cost. I just wash the salt water off of them, being careful to not force water up under the spool (or you will have to take the reel apart and lubricate it from inside - no big task).
Answer: what do you mean by 'big fish'? I have caught 3lb bass with no problem, im sure it could handle heavier fish also.
Answer: Not really. Better for bass and bluegill
Answer: With proper line yes, freshwater only !
Answer: Not really
Q:
How was this reel packaged when you received it? Mine just arrived sitting loose in the Shimano box with no secondary wrapping or manual.
Answer: It arrived fine & new in the factory box; in a brown padded envelope. No manual, that would have been nice; bit it's fine.
Answer: My reel had secondary packaging and a small manual.
Answer: Mine was fine in the original shim box and then in another box with bubble wrap but I bought 4 at the same time
Answer: Box had everything and was sealed like a new product. Sounds like you got a model or maybe a used one?
Answer: It came in a sealed clear plastic container.
Q:
Is the reel made of plastic?
Answer: The reels are a composite...so, I suppose they are some sort of plastic, but I've got three of them, and they seem pretty tough actually.
Answer: It's a combination of graphite and plastic.
Answer: I believe the spool is plastic but the main frame is metal. I have enjoyed these reels.
Q:
Does this reel come with line?
Answer: No
Q:
Como encuentro productos que se pueda enviar a Costa Rica
Answer: buscar envío internacional, sería mi mejor conjetura
Q:
How do I remove spool on the R 4000?
Answer: I assume you are talking about the IX 4000R. Tighten the drag all the way and turn the spool counter clockwise
Answer: Turn the spool counterclockwise.
Q:
Can i install it on okuma tundra surf glass spinning rods (15 feets)? sorry i am a begineer
Answer: This reel, even the smaller versions, works very well on virtually any rod made for spinning reels. To say otherwise is showing limited experience and ignorance. There are some reels made just for some types of rods, but that is only if you want optimum performance, which may not really be worth it in the end. I use braided line with mono at the working end and with a long rod can cast out there with the best of them with my Shimano IX4000 reel.
Answer: It will not perform properly. The largest (4000) works on a 7 foot medium action rod, that's what I use.
Answer: I'm not sure, I would think so !
Answer: Yes of course!
Q:
What is the model zix1rcbs56ul2?
Answer: R1000
Q:
Is this a combo rod and reel? What are the specs on the rod?
Answer: No, this is the reel only. I recommend a Shakespear Ugly Stick for this reel.
Q:
Which model is the first size option? I can't tell if it is the r1000, r2000, etc. the 4.1:l label is the gear ratio, which is the same for all models
Answer: 1000 holds least line 2000 next 4000 is more for saltwater or big cat fish
Q:
On the drop down menu to select which reel. What does the part "8/120 inch"mean? Thanks a Lot!
Answer: its a reference to the line weight and the amount of line that will fit onto the reel. In this case 8/120 means that is you use 8 pound line you could fit roughly 120 yards onto the reel.
Answer: I believe it's 8lb line and 120yds referring to the recommended line limit of the reel.
Q:
Would this work well on a 6'6" MH rod for inshore saltwater snook and tarpon around 46in..
Answer: This is a larger reel and yes I believe it would work well on a 6'6 pole for hard fighting fish!
Answer: I would suggest going for ML instead of MH.
Answer: It is a really good reel for fishing in this price range, but don't know for your kind of fishing. But, I should try.... ;(
Q:
Would this fit well with a 4 foot trout rod ?
Answer: The 2000 size might be on the big side for a 4ft rod. For a 4 ft rod I would go with a 1000 size. I'm not sure if this reel comes in a 1000 size though.
Answer: If it's for bass yea, but it's for smaller fish it's to big. I use the 1000 for crappie @brim. A 4ft rod is much shorter than I use and I have12 different rigs. Hope this answers question
Q:
What fits a. 7 ft rod) (telescopic rod)
Answer: I personally don't use telescopic rods ( even though they are very portable) I always go with a 1 piece rod. To answer your question, it honestly depends on what your fishing for and the size of the rod your fishing with. The 4000R model fits 8lb-12lb mono, it doesnt catch braid to well so mono is best for these reels. I use the 4000R with either 6'6 or 7'0 rod and have had no problems. The drag system on this reel is great.
Answer: No problem with a 7ft telescopic rod. It's a good reel.... ;)
Q:
Would this work with 20 lbs line
Answer: mono is a little stiff and has a momory till it gets god and wet. kvd line treatment will help . not knowing what kind of fishing you are doing, what size reel you are looking at is a factor. these reels work great with braid. our fish here in Okeechobee are not line shy. I hope this is of some help. I would not use 20#florocarbon,to stiff
Answer: It would work but it’s to me it’s way too big are use Four and six lbs
Q:
con que caña shimano puedo usar este carrete para espinning
Answer: Si, claro
Q:
Does it come with line already on it
Answer: No. You will need to spool it with line yourself.
Answer: Sorry, it was over 2 years ago and I don't recall
Answer: No,it does not
Q:
Can the handle be switched from left hand cranking to right hand?
Answer: Yes, the reel is able to swap sides to accommodate both left and right handed.
Answer: yes and understand that this reel is one of the most famous reels in fishing history
Answer: YES WITH NO TOOLS EASY
Answer: yes
Answer: Yes very easy
Answer: yes
Q:
what size reel is this?
Answer: Not sure what you mean by that, but its a normal size reel, not a tiny one (which i own also). This reel will hold 170 yards of 6lb line, 120 yards of 8lb or 100 yards of 10lb. Hope this helps
Answer: Its your standard spinning reel. Looks small in the picture, but it's average sized.
Answer: R 2000 I use 4lb test 6/8 would work fine
Answer: 2000
Q:
How many ball bearings does this reel have?
Answer: It's working very well. I don't regret this buy.
Answer: 3
Q:
Is the ix2000 a good pair with shimano stimula 6'6 medium rod with 10lb line for lake/river fishing?
Answer: Hi, sorry for the delay in getting back to you. Yes this would be a good match. Hope this helps Thanks
Answer: Yes
Q:
How long is the rod ?
Answer: Does not come with rod, I use 6' ultra light.
Answer: Five and a half feet
Q:
Can you use braided line without a backing?
Answer: i think it will slip
Q:
Size says 8/120 inch. that's got to be ft or yds though right? should spool up to 120yds with an 8lb line. or am i reading that wrong?
Answer: That is exactly right. 8lb line would be about 120 yards
Q:
You are showing a picture of the R4000, but your description is of a R2000, which is available at this price?
Answer: Go to http://www.amazon.com/Shimano-IX2000RC-24-Spin-Reel-Clam/dp/B006BYPBNA/ref=pd_sim_sg_4?ie=UTF8&refRID=0VPHBRZT2FZTWN9CW253. You can choose from all three sizes. The 1000 is the smallest, the one listed as 8/120 is the 2000 or medium size, and of course the 4000 being the large one. Better prices too. All are very good. I have the older version FX1000 from about 20 years ago and it is still going strong. It is essentially the same reel. On the newer FX, they went to an aluminum spool, and front drag for more money. Not as good IMO. I also have an IX 2000 from about 7-8 years ago. Also still going strong.
Answer: I don't know I bought it from Amazon Warehouse deals and it was the R4000 at a very low price. A very strong and good real.
Q:
Will this reel fit my Shakespeare rod?
Answer: It should fit any medium to light gauge rod I'm not sure if it would fit on a large heavy action Rod like for cat fishing or something
Answer: Yes assuming its a light or medium rod
Answer: it should
Q:
Is the reel made from Japan?
Answer: Nothing I can find on the reel itself says where it is made and I no longer have the box. My guess is Japan, although they have offices in the U.S. Of course, I bought a reel from U.S. Reel company that said made in China once. I personally love these reels because of the quickfire. They are by no means precision instruments - single ball bearing and 4.1:1 gear ratio - but they get the job done at a great price
Answer: I really cant say but I can tell you it's a great reel for the price dont underestimate it you will be very satisfied
Answer: I have purchased the IX 1000R and IX 2000R models, both are made in Malaysia.
Answer: China
Answer: Malaysia
Q:
Can you reverse the handle from left to right?
Answer: Hi, yes. This a nice reel. You will be impressed. Thanks and have a great evening
Answer: Yes you can. It's a great reel you'll love it!
Q:
4000R Slider retainer clip location on shaft does it bracket oscillating Slider?
Answer: the slider bar doesnt move up and down, only the spool does that
Q:
can i get a spare spool anywhere?
Answer: At your local sporting goods store should be able to order it for you !!
Answer: sorry no sure where but i'm sure you can these are one of the most famous reels known to man
Q:
Would ix2000 reel be good for dropshot fishing or should i look somewhere else. main line would be braid with more than 10lb test.
Answer: Depends on what you are for, its a light reel but good quality. 10 pound is braid is very strong, but the gears in the reel would be on light side.
Answer: I DO NOT KNOW WHAT DROP SHOT FISHING IS ... BUT I HAVE 20# BRAID ON MINE
Q:
Just to confirm, this is a ix2000 rather than ix1000, correct? i prefer a ix4000.
Answer: If it's a ix2000, it's a ix2000.... I just can answer it work well…..
Answer: I got the 4000. They are rather small reels.
Answer: Yes, this is the 2000. I have purchased all three sizes on amazon. Just read the details so you do not get them confused if you would rather have the 4000.
Q:
sirve para barracudas
Answer: depende del modelo que compre, el Ix4000 puede traer uno,
Q:
Can be changed from left to right side the handle?
Answer: I don't thing so it broke the second time I used it the lever that opens the bellis on the right so I think it for just the right hand
Answer: Yes
Answer: Yes you can.
Answer: Yes
Answer: yes
Q:
what shimano reel takes a no 4 graphite push button spool?
Answer: idk, this one is not push button spool change
Q:
I'm sure the IX2000r is a rear drag reel but when I add it to my cart the description changes to front drag - what's up?
Answer: Rear drag never had it say that on mine
Q:
Is the 1000r to big for a 6ft ultra light rod?
Answer: I would think it is too big for a smaller rod. I use it on an 8ft rod and it's perfect for that. I'd go with a smaller model.
Answer: I'd say slightly big. It's a good, decent, sized spinning reel. Perfect reel to have our to teach someone, yet sturdy enough to land a prize. Wouldn't consider it ultralight, but light enough to bring you a surprise.
Answer: It was given as a gift, therefore I don't know. I have been told that this reel is extremely smooth and it is used on a lightweight rod.
Answer: Close l have it on alight rod
Answer: It will be a nice fit.
Q:
Which model is the first size option? i can't tell if it is the r1000, r2000, etc. the 4.1:l label is the gear ratio, which is the same for all mode

Answer: i have 4000 , it seems ok for casting 10g- 30g but i prefer it for short surf fishing
Q:
Can I use this reel for saltwater fishing?
Answer: Yes its lightweight, but very good reel. i live in the south and it could be good for speckled trout.
Answer: yes
Q:
Can I buy extra spools & handles etc? Thanks!
Answer: you would have to direct your question to the manufacturer.
Product reviews of Shimano IX Rear Drag Freshwater Spinning Reel
sara bellum : Better than expected.
I'm new to fishing, and this reel is easy to use. I actually paired it with a Beefstick for crab snaring, because I was on a tight budget. I ended up catching a leopard shark baby on a crab snare.
MrC : Great reel at great price
Second time I have purchased this reel. Great performance.
Amazon Customer : Distance between rod and casting bale is to far apart
Was not comfortable in hand mounted on rod when casting
tom webb : The quality hasn't changed
I have been using this exact reel for over 20 years absolutely love it.
AverageJoe : Going Strong Six Months Later!
You can't beat this reel for the price. But the biggest bonus I've found so far is that because it's mainly plastic, it won't rust like steel reels if you saltwater fish!!! I've had no difficulties with drag or parts - half a year of heavy use later, this thing is still just as smooth as the first day I took it out. As another user mentioned, there's no Anti-Reverse, but I mean c'mon... the thing is under $20!! Do yourself a favor and get this reel -- you won't be disappointed.
Mohamed Faizal Bin Nordin : Worth the buy
The product was received in abox. The reel is pleasantly light enuf to be used for inshore fishing. Not the most lightest reel but at this price, it is practically unbeatable. Bearing is smooth and i am happy with the drag system. Worth the money. Cheers
Eddie : Nice
Product as described
MrC : Great reel at great price
Second time I have purchased this reel. Great performance.
Scott Pope : Not good
Not a good deal at all. Invisible reel wo t work
Tom : Best reel for the money
I won't buy another reel without the quick cast trigger. Shimano has it figured out!
Carole : My All Time Favorite !
I found my first Shimano IX2000 reel in the garbage attached to a broken rod. Took it home and cleaned it and it worked perfect. I've been fishing with it many times and it continues to be flawless in function, and easy to maintain. When I wanted another one I looked to Amazon and couldn't believe the price. My new reel is identical to the garbage find. It functions flawlessly. The rear drag and trigger design of this reel really set it apart. It doesn't have instant anti-reverse but rather reverses until the trigger is in the right position. Sometimes you might have to back up a half turn to get it in the right position to cast. I've heard others say this is a problem when you set the hook. I haven't had a problem at all setting hooks and you'll get used to the trigger after a few casts. Having the drag in the rear is ideal when adjusting during a battle. This reel is light, inexpensive, strong and easy to maintain. Rinse it after use, oil it up when you have nothing better to do, and this reel should last a long time. I've got mine on a 7' Berkely Lightening rod and my older on on a 6 1/2' Lightening rod. The balance on these rigs is amazing. I've had many rods and reels in my 50 years of fishing, but these rigs are my favorite all time.
Amazon Customer : Indestructible
I’ve been fishing all my life. I fish big lakes, watershed lakes, rivers, and creeks and this reel is my go to reel for all of them if I plan to be fishing for fish up to about 10 lbs. it’s absolutely indestructible. I first bought these reels when I noticed my dad using one and his is from the 1980s and he still uses it. It feels exactly the same as his. I’ve bought 5 of these. I’ve given 2 of them away as gifts and kept 3 for my self. I’ve had all of them for about 3 years now and I have not had a single problem with them. Plus for the price I think it’s hands down the best reel for fishing I do. It has been beat up and wore out but continues to function like the first day I used it. I would highly recommend to anybody from a beginner to a competitive fisherman.
Mark Dunn : Don't order this
When it arrived, the switch that kept it from reeling backward (anti-reverse) wasn't working. I put it right back into the box and started the process for a return.
Leland Witt Jr. : Can't beat this reel for the price
A friend has been using several of these for years with no issues, so when I needed to replace some of my worn out reels it was an easy decision. Mainly used for crappie, bass fishing but have caught some 10lb channel cats by accident and they performed flawlessly.
Amazon Customer : Fishing pole
Nice fishing pole
lnu238 : Love these reels, gonna be a sad day when they are all gone!
Love it, NIB......sweet!
carlos : wish i bought more than one
bought one last september and i must say i prefer it over my penn reel its so smooth wish i bought more than one
Bryan : Good basic reel
The Shimano R2000 spinning reel is an ok reel . It would be good for throwing in the back of a pick up truck and not worrying about damaging it because it's so cheap . The loose anti-reverse keeps it from being a good beginners reel , you just can't keep the line tight because of it . It only has one anti-reverse lock position so it can reverse up to 99% of a rotation before it hits the lock . The spool is threaded and spins on instead of having a release button . Absolutely no frills here .
David Wilson : Great price
I have 3 of these already. Like the trigger release and rear drag.
Dave N : super smooth casting and reeling
Own 3 of these. A little on the bigger size but it is the 4000. Super smooth cast and reeling.
Bama Biker : A little slow, but a great value, nice trigger
I bought my first one of these (IX4000) about 30 years ago and I still use it. I recently have got back into fishing and am outfitting 2 more rods with this reel. I use it to fish for large mouth bass and have never had any problems with them. The quick trigger makes it easy for beginners to learn, and honestly, I love the feature too. Takes away the hassle of manually flipping the bail. I wish all reels had it. The only thing I can think of that would make it a little bit better would be if the retrieve were just a bit faster, but for the price I can't complain. Plus I usually use it for slow walking top water lures and worms, no great speed needed there.
Amazon Customer : Fish on
The reel is a work horse and I love the rear drag and smooth I like it better then my $150 reel
Amazon Customer : Distance between rod and casting bale is to far apart
Was not comfortable in hand mounted on rod when casting
Josh : Great deal
Bought several of these to use as a "disposable" real for surf fishing - figuring the saltwater will eat them up and we'll just buy more. They've lasted all year so far & have worked great. I don't see why we won't get at least another year out of them - which is awesome for these inexpensive reels.
UPDATE - almost 4yrs later and still using them without any trouble
Adam : Just spend a couple dollars more and get something better
Not impressed with this. Not balanced well and feels cheap.
joe : Best
Best reel i ever came across, the quick fire will beat and crank reel out there.
Bill "GhostHawk" Jamison : Awesome reel for the money.
I like spinning reels, and for the last 5 years I have been loading mine with spectra/kevlar braided line.
Now if you get a big fish on and it is screaming line out and you need to adjust your drag. You have to get your fingers very very close to that line to adjust it. With a good sized fish on the far end that light is tight, and moving fast. Brush up against it and it is almost like feeding a finger into a saw. It can burn, cut, slice your skin quickly.
So I like rear drag reels, but rear drag spinning reels seem to be going out of style.
So when I noticed these I thought this is a good chance to get 2 more solid rear drag reels in my box of gear.
I was not expecting a lot from a 15$ reel, even one with Shimano's name on it. Boy was I surprised.
This reel is solidly built, silky smooth from drag, to reeling, to tripping the bail after casting. Smooth is the word that describes it top to bottom. No vibration, no wobble, no hickups, no problems. Just quiet smooth performance. Which is what you want.
Now I don't know how long this reel will last. It is winter up here in the Dakota's, it will be May before I start fishing.
If this reel fails before September you can bet you'll hear about it from me. But I don't think it will.
Amazon Customer : Distance between rod and casting bale is to far apart
Was not comfortable in hand mounted on rod when casting
JT in Kansas : I too own a ton of these little babies (over a dozen), and I fish alot.
I have never had one fail me. They may not be ultra smooth and when the drag has not been moved in a few months it takes a slight "set" so I just move it (test it) to free that up. That needs to be done anyway (check the drag setting) before going out for larger fish who might be pulling out some drag. But these reels are light weight, they bring the line up to my finger every time and then I can either use the quick fire lever or just open the bale manually - my choice. I have more expensive reels and they just aren't worth the money to me. I'd rather have a dozen of these than have one $150. heavier reel. One tip, I try to stop cranking so the handle is in the rear position. That way the weight of the crank handle tries to back crank itself which holds the bale against the back crank stop. Otherwise the crank might take the bale forward slightly which can cause slack in the system when you need to set the hook on a fish or forany other reason. It keeps things right where they should be. That is the only quirk that I can see to this "quick fire" system and that is easily compensated. Having a half dozen rods in the boat, rigged and ready allows me to quickly and easily try another presentation and also put one down after a hangup and breakoff then retie later, at home, rather than waist that time when I should be fish'n.
Mark : Good stuff
Have about seven of these in use, all great product!
SRP846 : Great Shimano Reel

P. Sutton : Shimano Spinning Reel Great buy!!
Love the reel wouldn't expect anything else from Shimano reels they have always been on top of my list!! This one is no different works great smooth sailing would say get it!! or At least try one!!
Mary Kay Corum : Quality for affordable price
Excellent fishing reel!
L. Meadows : Great little reel once you get used to it
This is a great reel to use when targeting small fish. I like the quick release trigger but it does take a little getting used to. When I need a bigger reel I'll definitely pick up a bigger size of this reel.
Amazon Customer : Fishing pole
Nice fishing pole
David : Five Stars
Thank you, I will be using this , this weekend
Guy from Jersey : Got what I paid for I guess- 1 use then broke
Took this out bass fishing for about an hour on Wednesday reel worked good, Lossen the drag when I put it away like I do on all my reels go to fish Saturday go to set the drag and nothing the spoil just spins wouldn’t even reel the line back in not sure what happen in 3 days of sitting. I have a number of shamanic reeks and never had an issue I know this one is low budget guess I got what I paid for. Spend the extra get a better model or go okuma for cheap reels never had a issue with their low end.
I've had many rods and reels in my 50 years of fishing, but these rigs are my favorite all time.
straightshooter : Nice for the money
I put 6lb test mono on it, cast great. Biggest fish caught so far with it was 4lb bass. Had drag set pretty light seem a little rough but not bad. If fishing for big pike this isn't the reel you want. Great for panfish and medium size fish. The "trigger finger" took me a few cast to get used to it.
Brandon Dethrow : Great reel for the money
Great value for this reel. Spool sounds back a quarter turn after it locks in place. I was able to spoil with 10lbs braid and it works fine. Wife likes it a lot. Already caught a nice sized blackfish on the reel and it handled it beautifully.
Mary Kay Corum : Quality for affordable price
Excellent fishing reel!
Skelly : Great
Great for my 4 yr old son
Mahbubul Maruf : wonderful reel
THE BEST REEL you can find with the price
in my opinion its better than a 50 dollar reel.
I dressed it with 20LB braid, landed a 16 lb striper with minimal problem.
if you want to catch porgies or cocktail blues this is probably the best reel you can buy. Buy this and get a medium action rod, and you are good to go, if you know how to cast well, you can cast it at least 40-50yd without problem
Mark Dunn : Don't order this
When it arrived, the switch that kept it from reeling backward (anti-reverse) wasn't working. I put it right back into the box and started the process for a return.
Thomas G. : Reel nice !!!!
Rear drag and trigger cast
susanne gala : Worth it
Solid reel. worth $12.99
Frank H : Get this if it is available
I only buy Shimano and have had these (low end) ones for years. I also have the top end but these always do the job. Can't beat the price
MB : Cheap but tough. Salt water capable.
I was recommended this reel for surf fishing. It seemed a little cheap for the job, but after more than 6 months of hard use it's still holding up well. The rear drag is a nice feature. It's doesn't have continuous anti-reverse, but who cares? I thought that would be a drawback, but I haven't missed it. I've pulled in some decent side reds with this reel and it holds its own. I don't think you could do better for anything close to this price.
Joe : Smoooooottthhhhhh
Amazing reel very easy to use an ultra smooth casting an reeling . Just a little off balanced but nothing to cry about . Ty
