This reel operates very smoothly and does a good job.

I finally had the opportunity to use this reel last week to do some fishing and I am quite pleased with it! It operates very smoothly and the settings are easy to adjust. With the correct spool tension, the backlash is well controlled. The drag also adjusts easily.

Baitcasting reels have come a long way since I was young. I had not used one in a long time and was surprised at how easy it is to use. For anyone not familiar with baitcasting reels, I recommend looking onling for instructions on how to adjust a modern reel.

Whith a baitcasting reel, when casting, the spool has to be stopped with the thumb when the bait hits the water to keep it from backlashing. A beginner needs to adjust the spool tension to provide some resistance until he is used to the timing. Once the timing is practiced, the tension can be removed for longer casts. (I still have a little tension applied!)

There are two spools provided with the reel, I loaded the deeper spool with 10# test line. I'm using the reel on a 7 foot medium action rod.

I'm impressed with the quality of this reel. It is smooth and quiet and I expect to do a lot of fishing with it!

Amazon Customer : Plastic gear connecting to line guide assembly

Unfortunately, my reel failed when a few of the teeth in the plastic gearing connecting the main shaft to the line guide assembly were bent, with a couple of teeth breaking off completely. This is an obvious problem with cheap parts. Aluminum frame doesn’t matter if the internals fail. I bent the teeth back, and the reel is working again, but I fear it won’t last much longer.

This is an awesome reel for the money. Has all the features and smoothness as the high end reels at a more affordable price. Very smooth operating with 8=1 ball bearings. Well constructed for durability and strength with brass gears and aluminum frame. Has all the power one could ever need for hauling in larger fish with 6.3:1 gear ratio and large handle. Magnetic reel drag adjustment to prevent backlashing. The large handle also adds to the ergonomic design making it more comfortable to fish with for long time periods. One feature is like and have never seen before. The spool has a place to tie the line too. Should make lining the reel much easier and prevent line from slipping on spool. The top reel companies have some really stiff competition. I don't see how they can compete with Johncoo. With Johncoo reels, you get all the quality and feature at a fraction of the price.?

MadROMAD : Super Smooth Action

Oh wow, I'm really impressed with this reel. I've only been able to get it out a couple of times now but spooling it was super easy and it's easy enough to use. Pretty standard really. Just be mindful if you've never used this style of reel before. It had been a while for me so it took me a few casts to really get it out there. It has really smooth action and it actually has some real heft to it. It isn't some cheap plastic reel. I was hesitant considering this isn't a brand I'd heard of before. Regardless, I haven't had any problems and at this price point, I'm hoping it lasts me a while. My goal is to go camping soon, so I'll really put it through its paces.
