what is the line capacity for various line weights?

Answer: I don't think you will care about line capacity. This is one reel you should pass on. I own over a dozen inline multiplier reels costing from $15 to $280 and this one is total JUNK. You can spend a bit more and get a 13 Fishing 6061 which is a great reel or a lot less and get an Eagle Claw or just about anything but this reel. It really is that bad. If I had bought it from Amazon I would have returned it as fast as possible.

What pound test lines best suit the Frabill 371 ice reel?

Answer: I use 2 pound test on my reel and it works great.

Recently I bought one of these to try to use to crappie fish in deeper waters. I was thinking with the spool release it may work well but I sure was wrong. Well that was a mistake if you get any slack in the line the string will come out and get caught on the handle or even worse it will get between the spool and the shaft then you have to take it a apart to get it out. After having this happen 3-4 times I have returned the reel to garbage can. This is just a low quality made reel especially for I what tried to use it for. It make work for ice fishing but for crappie fishing save your money and buy a $5 Uncle Buck or something similar(you go through around 10 of these for one frabill).

Straight out of the box it didn't work properly. Gear slips when handle is turned. Bait clicker only sounds when you turn the handle not when the drag is engaged . Gap between the spool and the reel cage is fairly large. Sent in for a replacement but im skeptical now that I have held this reel and taken a closer look. Ill update my review once I get a new one on the ice. Edit : they replaced with a new one and it came with a bent handle, so I sent it back for another. This one is actually a great reel . Clicker works , anti skate works , drops small jigs down super fast and retrieves them even faster. I recommend , just look it over before you head on the ice.

I am updating my review as to this reel being junk.

2 seasons old and two of my seven blew drags out, open spooling and retrieval not working. Frabil recommended cleaning and replacing drags and washers. Are you kidding me? I'm not boating kings on copper here, its a pan fish line.

I threw 9 of these in the garbage and bought a dozen 6061 black bettys and couldnt be happier.

I have 2 of these reels. There is a learning curve to using an inline reel, careful to not get a back lash. The guard over the reel lets you palm it freely. I have caught small pan fish and up to a 24" walleye...no complaints. Quick drop and no line twist!!

Can't loosen the spool enough to allow bait to free fall & if you could the spool is enclosed so you can't thumb it.

The bearings in the spool aren't pressed consistently. This makes the "free fall" adjustment work in some but not in others and if the reel is tipped toward the adjuster knob, it works. If tipped the opposite direction, It's as if there is no adjustment at all. Not worth the money! I spoke with a representative from the manufacturer and was told they all work proper. I own 3 and all three have the one bering pressed at different depths thus causing the problem. Wouldn't suggest purchasing them. They had a similar problem with their lighter reel that preceeded the 371. I was also told they were manufactured proper.

I love these reels. The spool is encased so palming the reel or pencil gripping will not stop drag on hook set or a big fish run. Very smooth drag and all features work perfectly. Large spool reduces any line curl and in-line reduces or eliminates lure spin. A big deal with me is the increased line retrieval vs 1-1 reels. This reel is a pleasure to fish with!

Stay away from this reel. I bought 2 in the same purchase and both came with significant drag/ gear problems. Reel #1- the gears were obviously damaged to the point i couldn’t retrieve my line. Reel #2- the free fall drag was inoperative meaning there was no control how fast my jig fell. I prefer to set this to each jigs weight and with no control I was getting backlash. I’ve owned many Frabill products and have had no issues so this was a surprise.

I was disappointed in the performance this year. One of the reels showed up with 2 screws floating around on the inside. The release froze up all the time and if there's a tiny piece of ice anywhere on the line it will malfunction. My black Betty was way better!
