Questions about Shimano Spirex FG Spinning Reel (6.2:1)
Q:
This product is the spirex sr4000fg?
Answer: This listing is for 3 different reels. You have to select from the drop down menu. The bottom one called medium light says in the description that it is the 4000. The first selection appears to be the 2000 and the middle selection is the 1000.
Answer: The item description is really confusing. I finally said to heck with it and ordered the 4000fg reel from Ebay. It was the same price back then. Don't know if it's the same now but it's worth a look.
Q:
As this only gives me the line capacity, which one is the sr1000fg reel? I think it is the the one that carries the 2 pound 270 yards, is this right
Answer: Yes than is the correct one. The description on Amazon is lacking. I googled the info when I ordered and now also to make sure I was correct. Places differ on stats but what ever the smallest one listed is will be the 1000 as that's the smallest one the make.
Q:
there is a selection of 4 sizes. which is the 2500
Answer: Actually there are only 3 types,,, the 1000, 2500,, and 4000,,, the 2500 is the medium size
Answer: iIonly know of 3 sizes offered. 1000/2500/4000. the 2500 is a fine midsize real used for bass fishing with 8-12 lb. line. Don't use 30lb braided. It'll wear out the reels' bearings in no time. At least from my one experience. A great reel with the power trigger.
Answer: There are three sizes (1000, 2500 and 4000) that I am aware of. Not certain of which is the 2500, perhaps the middle item as listed? Not great work by the vendors I'm sorry to say.....

Q:
Can you use with 6lb line?
Q:
Which selection do i make for the sr2500fg ???.....not clear as to model #.
Q:
Can anyone answer where it is manufactured? Are these made in China or Japan?
Answer: Malaysia.
Answer: Malaysia
Q:
What model is actually being sold here? the picture shows a 1000fg (the one i want to purchase) but in the cart the product description is a 2500fg.
Q:
what are the model numbers to match the line weight I want the 1000FG thanks
Answer: I use the 1000fg on an Allstar 5'6" ultra light rod with 4 lb. Mono line. Works great for trout in the bays on the Gulf coast.
Answer: If you order this reel from Amazon you will get the heavier 2500 model, even if you order the 4/140.
Q:
The description is a mess. mix of all models. the image shows a 2500. there is no model selection. what is actually being sold here?
Answer: I think it is the 2500
Q:
Why you charging $30 over retail price?
Q:
Can you please update this option in the drop-down? There are three-reel sizes for the spirex, you only list two and it is not clear which is which.
Answer: This is a request for Amazon, not for information
Q:
The three reel choices don't match the product descriptions! Which is correct? I want the 1000FG.
Answer: The reel pictured here is a FG; has two handled reel, quick fire line pick up and Front drag. The 1000 series is a very small reel, so probably the one that has the smallest amount line capacity or 4 / 140 meaning 4 pound test / 140 feet or yards .... brain lock!
Answer: As far as I know you will get a 2500 model from Amazon. You can definitely get the 1000FG from Cabela's.
Q:
What are the size options? Looking for the 2500FG model
Q:
Has anyone changed the double handle for a single?
Answer: I have not, but I have taken double handle and transferred to my single handled Shimano reels with ease and they worked fine. Same size screw setting.
Answer: I don't know if there is a match, if like to have a single as well - otherwise this is one of my go to reels.
Answer: use it just like it is and like it very much.....am going to buy the 4000 soon..
Q:
What size do I need for freshwater trout?
Q:
Which one to order to get sr1000fg?
Q:
Does the supplier have shimano spirex 4000 fg?
Q:
Can you buy additional spools?
Q:
Provider offers: 2 pound, 4 pounds and medium light. which of these is the sr4000fg reference?
Q:

Q:
which model should i get for a lightweight medium action rod for bass?
Answer: I have the 1000 reel. It works great for trout and smallmouth bass up to like 2 pounds. Haven't caught bigger fish on it here in AZ. I would pick the 2000 for the bass and catfish here. Look at the line weight to make your decision. Also if I was gonna buy a new reel to go after big bass I would get a baitcaster of appropriate size. If they made a light enough baitcaster for 1/16oz spinners that was decent price I'd be on that. This reel is great because of the trigger cast, other spinners suck for high volume work.
Answer: I have excellent results with the 2500 on light and medium rods. Hope it helps.
Answer: The middle one should be good
Q:
Which one is tbe 2500, thats what i wanted but received the 1000?
Answer: The 2500 has a line capacities of 6/200, 8/140,10/120. The smaller 1000 has line capacities of 2/270, 4/140, 6/110. So you can tell by the amount of line it holds for each pound test.
Answer: The 2500 is the medium size one,,,, 1000 is for light and ultra light setups
Q:
How I make sure if I bought one it will be 1000 model and will not receive the 2500 model as the answers say ?
Q:
Hey, I really like fishing ,but I can't afford to buy expensive reel. So,show me the best spinning reels under 100 dollars.

You show a picture of a 4000 FG but when you go to pick model choice your of sizes don't tell which model I am buying. There are threee models 1500 2500 4000 so what am I buying with the choices you offer? Jerry
Answer:
Answer:
Answer: When you look at the photos it is clear which model you are buying. It's printed on the spool. FYI, the 4000 has a drag lever behind the reel, and that's been a wonderful thing for me. I really like it.
Answer: You have to select the size you want
Q:
Select size ??? What size do I select for the 1000 FG ?
Answer: There are 3 FG models. The 1000, 2500 & 4000. The reel specs are as follows...the MAX DRAG on the reels are 7, 15 & 20. The WEIGHT is 8.8 oz., 10.6 & 13.9. The LINE RECOVERY is 28" per turn, 30" & 32". All have 5 ball bearings, the line capacity...2/270, 10/120 & 10/200. I personally love this reel. Never had a better one to fish with. Hope this helps.
Answer: click on selection, go down to description... model changes as per selection ie.. 1000,2500,4000 hope this helps you
Answer: Not sure I understand your question; 1000 is the size.
Answer: As far as I know, you can't buy the 1000FG on Amazon.
Product reviews of Shimano Spirex FG Spinning Reel (6.2:1)
BillM. : Spirex FG
I got this to use on a 7 foot ultra lite rod for crappie and blue gill. It serves very well in that roll. I have used larger models of it for bass. as well.
Hope it helps.
CB : With the quickfire system I can fish just as rapidly as I can with a bait caster and with practice can make a lot of the same presentations (but bait casters are still the king for pinpoint accuracy) all while getting better distance and never dealing with backlashes
2 reasons these reels are my go to: Quickfire and longevity. With the quickfire system I can fish just as rapidly as I can with a bait caster and with practice can make a lot of the same presentations (but bait casters are still the king for pinpoint accuracy) all while getting better distance and never dealing with backlashes.
Longevity. I've fished for 20+ years with Spirex and each reel has given me at least a decade of use practically maintenance free.
I still own and use other reels, but by far this is my favorite for most of my fishing.
eb : Great Reels
Spirex may be one of the budget lines from Shimano but they work, they last and they are great reels. I have 12 Shimanos from Sienna 500 up to Saros, Symetre and Stradics, never an issue even after hard use. Nothing else compares. Skip the Penns, Okumas and Abu, they are not in the same ballpark.
jjson775 : Great reel!
I fish inshore along the Texas coast for speckled trout and redfish. I have been using the Shimano Spirex for a number of years. My fishing friends use baitcasters, I feel sorry for them when they have to untangle a backlash! I will keep using this reel as long as Shimano makes them.
hillbilly : Ok.... but whish it was smoother.
Always liked Shimano reels but this is the first of this model that I have owned. Only thing I didn't like is the reel is not as smooth as some of the more expensive models. Come to think of it I have a much cheaper model that is smoother than this one.
Dad : Five Stars
Loved it
California Doug : What Size???
I ordered this reel by clicking on the "2 pounds/ 200 yards" box, assuming I would get the FG 1000, which I wanted.
BEWARE--I got the FG 2500. I had sent in three queries asking about model numbers, but none of my queries to Amazon or the supplier was answered.
I have worn out about 4 of these reels and like them A LOT, because this is really a 5-STAR Reel, but I rated it 2 stars to tell you all to be sure you know what model you are ordering!
Amazon went to the trouble to ship it to me, and I went to the trouble to return it, because I wanted the smaller size.
Jeff : Love the QuickFire
Great design and can't wait to use it this spring...Purchase the Syncopate 2500 along with this. I am glad to be able to update an older Shimano reel.
tank2319 : Don’t waste your money.
Reel is ok but hate that it doesn’t have instant anti-reverse. If your not paying attention it will cause line to get tangled and pretty much impossible to get a good hookset if the bail isn’t returned back to the top of the reel every time. To bad I waited to long to try it and the return window is closed. Definitely expected a lot more from shimano on this one.

Orange1 : 2pounds/200 yards is the Shimano Spirex FG 2500 Spinning Reel
Use this reel 6/8 days a month. Arrived on time. Good value. The problem I have is when I bought it the description was not enough. The Picture showed the 1000FG and only one picture. I think they would sell more of them if they showed that their description choice is not the same names that Shimano have. I got what I wanted and it took some time to decipher it.

Buddy : I like the one handed bail system as well
Own other Shimano spinning reels ( two Sedona 2500 FE ) and impressed with their quality assembly / operation. The Spirex model is smoother to operate and will be my reel of choice. I like the one handed bail system as well. An outstanding spinning reel! Just ordered / received my second reel identical to the first.
Mihail : Five Stars
Good seller, good product.
Allen : Great Reel, but Where's the second spool?
I love the Sprirex reel so much I asked for another one for Christmas. If you're sitting in a boat casting and casting, the Quick-Fire feature for one handed casting is effective and easy. My only disappointment is that the last time I bought one it came with an extra spool and this one did not. The extra spool is handy if you get the line so screwed up that it's easier just to take one spool off and reload with the other.
That said, however, this reel is far less prone to get the line messed up than any other I have used. It's a smooth machine.
The rear drag version is easier/better than the front drag version, so be careful when purchasing to ensure you get the rear drag one.

Brian Sniatkowski : Great all around reel
I purchased the Spirex 4000 (FD) because it is one of the few reels in Shimano's line that still has the Quickfire feature. When this feature was introduced back in the 80's I bought one reel with it and liked it so much I had soon replaced every one of my freshwater reels with one with the Quickfire mechanism. I love the ease of one handed casting and the fact that I never have to look down at the reel to make sure it is aligned for casting. As some of my earlier purchases start showing their age, the Spirex is my preferred replacement.
I've read some complaints about the anti-reverse in Quickfire equipped reals. The complaint is that the anti-reverse isn't instant. Rather the reel will spin up to a full turn before it engages. That's necessary so that the mechanism lines up perfectly for casting. I've never found this to be a problem because my hand is always on the handle during the fall and retrieve and that is all the anti-reverse I ever need. Maybe it's because I began fishing in the day when anti-reverse reels emitted a noisy click when it was engaged, so I usually fished without engaging it.
As far as the performance, the drag is smooth and line winds evenly on the spool. That's all I ask of my spinning reels. The reel has a solid feel and I like that it is metal, as I think that makes a reel more durable (even though I have some plastic body reels that are approaching 30 years old).
My single complaint (and it's a minor one) is regarding the double handle. I don't get the point. Perhaps it is meant to appeal to anglers who use mostly bait casting reels. I find it slightly awkward feeling as every spinning reel I've owned have (or had) a single handle. The single handle also has the advantage of folding more neatly out of the way for storage or transport. I could probably easily replace the Spirex double handle with a single handle, and the fact that haven't done so means that it's isn't that big an issue with me.
Overall this is a solid, well made fishing reel at a reasonable price. Highly recommended.
