Need an Airbrush 2024

Ok so my Dad was gonna give me a brand new paasche airbrush that he had but never used. Well he can't find it so I think I may have to buy one for my self I wanna keep it under $100 preferably. I just get some predator unpainted baits and some of their eyes.

I heard Badger is a pretty good airbrush but don't know their prices. Any help/advice would be much appreciated!

What I am looking to do is to do this is a hobby and to make crankbaits to match the hatch out at the lake. We have Bluegill and TFS for our main forage.

I was recommended the Iwata Revolution BR & This GX207 http://www.airbrushcity.com/abk1/index.htm

I don't wanna spend a fortune I just wanna get some practice in and get my stuff together. I am doing this strictly has a means to keep my self busy when I'm not on the lake. Sometimes I can be a Hobby junky ;D

the iwata revolution br is a good brush. not too expensive either. that kit looks nice, i like that it comes with 3 different sizes of needles and nozzles, but i don't know anything about the quality of it as i've never used it. definitely stick with a gravity feed brush with a little cup on it though.

honestly if you were me which one would you get? Do I need to have different nozzles/tips? I have never done this stuff before

i'd go with the iwata, no question. iwata is a very reliable brand, they make a good quality airbrush, and they have a good warranty policy. you won't have to replace your iwata brush unless you break it, it won't break on you. plus you can always buy different sized needles and nozzles if you so desire, but the .3mm that comes standard in the revolution is a pretty good all around tip.

www.chicagoairbrushsupply.com has great customer service. i didn't buy my brush from them (i bought from www.coastairbrush.com) but when i dropped my brush and smashed the tip all up, i called up chicago and they helped me out with figuring out which replacement parts i needed to buy (since the item numbers of the replacement parts were wrong in the manual i received). they have great customer service, so i'm going to keep buying my airbrush supplies from them.

dixieart.com has a good stock plus hoses, adapters, paint, etc. Good service if you are spending more than $50 so they don't gore you on shipping costs. coastairbrush.com is another good reliable source. If you want to save a few bucks, you can probably get a new one on Ebay for less than anywhere else, if you trust the seller.

I just went through this exercise. The best deal I found was using the Hobby Lobby 40% off coupon. They carry Iwata. They bundle the airbrush in kits that include different accessories depending on the model.

Also watch Harbor Freight, Michaels, and AC Moore for coupons each week. They all post their weekly coupons online and you can print those. I've managed to get all my paints and miscellaneous items at prices better than what I found online.

Michaels had a good deal going last week with 40% off your entire purchase. I picked up 14 different colors of Createx paint.

I'm painting one bait at a time so gravity feed allows quicker color changes.

Only thing we have is a Michael's, nearest Hobby Lobby to me is around 2.5 hrs away. I wish we did have one it would be much easier. >

Well I ended up finding my Dad's Paasche Airbrush. What do y'all think? I was possibly thinking about getting a small airbrush compressor instead of using these air cans or my Construction air compressor. I was thinking about getting one from Grizzly Tool Supply or from Harbor Freight. I am gonna get some createx probably tomorrow

single action brushes are kinda a PITA to use. i'd still recommend getting the Iwata Revolution. also, with air compressors, the bigger the better, so use your construction air compressor!

What makes it single action? I don't know the terms really. I will start out using this one since it was free. but I would like to eventually get the Iwata Revo. BR for sure. How do I connect it to my compressor do they make a quick disconnect that will fit my small airbrush hose that will mate up to my big compressor hose??? I saw some on some of the websites but don't know exactly what I need. (Links would be greatly appreciated )

see how your brush has that cone nozzle thing (i don't really know the term for it, i always call it a cone) underneath the front of the brush? you turn this to adjust your paint flow (tighten to release less paint, loosen to release more paint). when more paint is released it sprays in a wider patter. but anyway, that cone adjusts the way the paint sprays, then you just push the trigger down to spray air which shoots the paint. the paint will continue to spray this exact way until you adjust the cone again.

on a double action brush, you push the trigger down to start air flow, and then you pull the trigger back to release paint, and the farther you pull it back the more paint comes out, and the wider the spray pattern. so ALL of the control is in one finger, and you can adjust paint flow while spraying, something that isn't very practical with a single action brush.

the iwata revolution is a double action brush.

Ok thanks man. Yeah I may go with the Iwata Revolution eventually that does sound like a PITA for sure. I just can't justify spending $88 extra right now when I have a free one sitting here. I may still get that one though. I donno yet???

What do you recommend for the air connection to the big compressor hose? From the airbrush>compressor hose

oh yeah.

first check what size fittings are on the airbrush hose. i know my airbrush hose has 1/4" fittings. so i bought a 1/4" male-male adapter and one end of this screws into my airbrush hose, and the other end screws into the air filter. on the other side of the air filter is a quick disconnect which plugs right into my air compressor. the drawing i made shows this a little easier to understand. note: all the connections are sealed with teflon tape.

you may have a different set up than me if you are trying to connect the airbrush hose to your compressor hose. in this case you would need a male-male adapter, with one side being the diameter of the airbrush fitting (probably 1/4") and the other side being the diameter of whatever the fitting on your compressor hose is (1/2" maybe?). somewhere along the line, whether it be right under the airbrush, or right on the compressor, you should have an air filter.

also note, your fitting sizes may be different depending on your equipment. your paasche kit should tell you the size of the hose fittings. the arrangement of connections isn't hard really, just figure out what connections you need (male-male, quick disconnect, etc) and make sure they are all the right sizes.

get used to it, airbrush paint ain't cheap : but it does last a while, longer than you'd think. what about that guy that was going to sell you like 50 bottles of createx? thats probably a deal if they're full and haven't been frozen or anything.

some are full but most of them are full and the ones that aren't are 3/4 of the way full. I think I might do that b/c that will save me money in the long run. Just need to get to practicing. 8-)

definitely do that! as long as they haven't been frozen or ruined any other way, that is a good deal. how many bottles was it again? 40 something? thats a lot of colors to get you started off, you will be able to do just about any paintjob you want.

well you have to rinse it out well after you're finished with it each session, take the needle out, wipe it down.

something i didn't do but need to do: invest in a set of airbrush cleaning brushes. these are tiny little brushes that will fit inside the airbrush body and inside the nozzle. i think they make a special needle for cleaning out the nozzle. my brush is starting to get gunky inside and i need some brushes to clean it out.

Just now reading some of this...I've been airbrushing since 1982...can't say enough good things about the versitality of the Iwata brushes.

As for the propellant supply, I recommend an industrial bottle and get it filled with nitrogen rather than air...no moisture in your propellant line to mess up your projects.
