Hoping to capitalize on the Four-time Bassmaster Classic champion, Rick Clunn Luck E Strike Trickster Spinnerbait concept, but not having any of his "Long Blades" hanging around, (or even remotely available) I used what was on hand.
Might turn out to be an ugly bastardization and a waste of a few perfectly good Mepps Spinners.
Time will tell . . . Fun though.

You'll have to report back when you get to water test them. One unique thing about the Tricksters is their overly long and specially bent top wire arm. Won't be able to duplicate that with the spinnerbait frames you currently have the blades on.

As for the arm length - Agreed.
Never been a fan of a length where there's a ton of hardware well past the hook.
Might have to re-think that.
Not sure what 'the magic' is, but if a longer & perhaps even bent arm is the deal, a second generation of bastardization may be called for.
May even may a small investment in a few sizes of quality french blades rather than sending more spinners to their grave.

That'll get em.
Looks like it'll run pretty quick, but without knowing the weight of the head it's hard to tell. Even if it does run too quick, you can always change the French blade on the arm for a larger one.
If you really want to experiment, try putting the small blade on the swivel and large blade on the arm....My my my

I'm starting with 3/8's here as a baseline.
Once I determine which blades do what - as far as size, vibration, running depth & speed needed, I may modify as needed.
I can easily add weight to one if the 5 blade requires it to run true and I can always drop a bled size perhaps going with a 2 & a 3 instead of s 2 & a 4 or a 3 & a 5.
I used to do a ton of this back in Mass for night time smallies - in what seems like a hundred years or another lifetime ago - actually early or mid 80's I guess.
It was all Stanley baits then I think.

I actually think you're right there with the 5. Maybe on the line of too much blade. If I know you, you'll have a soft plastic trailer of some sort that will help it run true.

This is how I started making spinnerbaits, tear apart baits and rebuild them to what I want.

They look really good. While it is different would an Indiana blade do the same thing? I have been wanting to get some Indiana blades for my spinnerbaits to replace willow leaf blades.

While I've had decent success with several types & sizes of blades (including Indiana), can't say for sure what's going on here @Log Catcher, as I haven't had a chance to fish them.
Plan on giving them a season to impress (or depress) me.
Since the Zen Master, himself prefers them, that's a ton of mad credibility in my book and enough for me to take a whack at it.

They look great. I’ve noticed all of the great spinnerbait fisherman do a lot of tinkering with their baits. Rick Clunn has done okay. I’ll add A-Jay to the list of great tinkerers.

What I am finding is there are a lot that are close but not the same. Indiana blades are too wide, these are not rounded off enough in the back, those French blades you are using are too thick. Tried grinding the end off a willow blade and lets just say that goes down in my failure column.

@A-Jay awesome looking and pretty close. Also I know a spinner played big for him in FL do you know by chance if his bladed jig the trickester played as well I was looking at it this afternoon. Looking forward to the update.

i always liked the look of the tricksters (and the sob baits) but everyone of the tricksters i've ever had didn't work very well. maybe there's a trick to them?

I've fished them a few times.
Admittedly more to see how they'd run than actual fish catching, as the conditions were less than ( or more like - not close to) ideal.
They run 'OK' - need to pulse the lure at the start of the retrieve to get the blades going on one bait.
The blade sizes and combinations (which are different on each bait) may need a little more tweaking - to get what I'm looking for.
That said, I'd expect to be able to get a few here during the post spawn and maybe again in the fall. And if & when I do, you know there will be 'video evidence' of the event.
