When you say hand tied. Are you referring to thread only or wire tied skirts as well.

Here are a few of mine, to start off my season. I started off with thread, and now I use wire for the silicone skirts. Much faster.

That one with the few spots of copper fleck looks like a killer. Those few strands really make it stand out. Great work.

On a side note -- I might need to be adding some to my tackle box :bushy-browed:

I like adding that copper flash to certain jigs.On some lakes I fish it does not make a difference, but on one lake I fish I wont throw a jig without it.Thanks for the kind words.

Keith,

After looking at your hair jig, I really like the looks of it. Also you use one of my favorite hooks Owner 5304's. Can I ask you how well you do with hair jigs? I have tried them all year long, and I do not do welll with them at all. I must be missing something. I am a jig fisherman, so I do know how to use jigs. Thanks for any input.

Here's one of the many I tied this past winter and has really produced for me this spring:

The skirt is tied with thread on a lead free Siebert Outdoors head. I know, pretty generic, but a great producer. As you can see, this jig has been fished a little.

Cadman,I really dont fish them as much as I should.I tied a few this past winter but haven't gave it a fair shake yet.I was told by a member here (sorry I dont remember whom)to slowly crawl the jig rather than hop it off the bottom, more like a football jig retrieve I guess.Light line (6 to 10) and no weed guard seems to be preferred by some too. Im going to the lake this afternoon and I hear the smallmouths are staging on some points so I might give it a try.I'll let you know how I do.

Thanks, for the info and I'll wait for your report. I was told as well to crawl it on the bottom, however I just haven't had a lot of success with it. I too have not really given it a lot of time to make an honest judgement about it. So I will have to do that this weekend.]

Jigfishn10, that jig must work really well for you, looks like a lot of use on that one with a lot of battle scars. Even worn out jigs produce. BTW nice looking jig.

fishing user avatarJig Man reply :

When I use hair jigs I hop them off the bottom in the winter bringing them 2-3 feet off the bottom and letting the settle back down.

Otherwise I swim them with intermitten twitches of the rod tip.  I use a light of a line and jig as I can get by with using.  I never use a trailer on a hair jig.

Yeah, I've been fishing that jig pretty hard this spring. Believe it or not, that grub is still in great shape after 10 plus fish. I keep dabbing on a little megastrike and keep fishing. I can't believe how durable those grubs are.

Thanks for the kind post cadman. I see you're still putting out great looking jigs, keep up the great work. As always, I wish you nothing but the best of luck, have a great season my friend!

Winter Craw Pattern I like this one when they are feeding heavily on red colored craws but they won't look at a red/brown jig. For some reason this stands out from the crowd and they crush it!

KJ and Senko, nice looking jigs :D

fishing user avatarCapt.Bob reply :

I make these same jigs with lead heads powder coated and cleared with epoxy. These are with my favorite material, Buck Tail died in fluorescent colors, and I make the jigs on 1/4 oz molds w/ the proper material for floating bodies and the hair adds to the buoyancy which when fished in lakes, as a Carolina rig, lets them dive on the retrieve and raise on the stop, enticing the strike. They are great for LM Walleye, Smallies, White Bass, and Crappie on streams as well, when weighted just enough to keep them on the bottom and letting them slowly roll with the current, my favorite jigs for streams with the bucktail.

These are made on 1/16 oz molds and use a #4 Oshaunesy used the same way or at times as a drop shot rig, great when they want a small bait, and a great bait for Yellow Perch as well as the other species. _MG_6271-II_zps583bbd62.jpg
