I am thinking of going to a bass fishing school in New york on Lake Champlain with the Bass Coach named Roger L Brown. What are your thoughts? I have a hard time learning from books and I thought this would be a better way.
BASSNOVICE

Ouch
why not find a semi pro or expert in your area and hire him to be your coach for the summer for $1200
Bass coaches are the new thing
I don't think you can learn bass fishing in 3 days----toooooo many variables
I vote no >
I liked step #1: "How to save money"
The best teacher is experience.
I would save my money and ask all of my questions here.
Besides, you probably get better answers.
Excellent advice given by Hookemdown. You don't need to pay top dollar to become a good bass fisherman. You need to gain experience, know your surroundings and how to fish them. You can not do this in three days, but you do have unlimited time on here!
Or you can come out here to California and for $1200.00 I will put you on fish for a week!

Does that apply to all 12,000 members?

You've got to be kidding me !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
BASS COACHES?????? I just fish with guys who know more than me and ask questions and apply it and see if it works for me 1200 smakeroos , thats a new angle, WOW> But like anything else this sport has a lot of diversity and what ever blows your skirt up have fun, you all deserve it. 8-)
$1200 could buy a whole lot of tackle, a small boat,a subscription to every bass mag and like six gallons of gas. $1200? LOL Meet me at Lake Erie and I will put you on hundreds of 4 pound+ smallies for three days! Like fishizzle I would vote no!

I'd like to but it is apparent some would be uncomfortable catching trout fed Cali bass.

Hey Thats a generous first post
Very Nice. Welcome!!
You gotta be kidding me !!!!!!!
Just join a bass club and go out fishing, make some friends.
Chip in with some gas money and and brews and you'll be fishing your whole life , or until you get your own boat. (if you don't have one allready).
Read all the articles on this forum (and others) and if you have question, just ask !!!!!
Tight lines

Good plan Muddy. Unfortunately, for me it's way too easy to find those types of guys. :'(
I'd gladly meet ya up at Ticonderoga, and head out come Late June. Just say when. I will fish for free!!!!!! Just split any gas on the water.
Champlain Rocks!!!!!
PM me if you need a couple starter spots----not secrets, just spots that have been productive!
Jamie
Why not join a local club, heck of a lot cheaper.....
I learned more in 1 year than I could have in 10 on my own. Just have to get into the right club.
Save your money, like mentioned $1200 will buy alot of other stuff.

Marty same here; Guys I have learned from here' LBH,Long Mike and most of all Zel, he is a very subdued teacher, really a pleasure to fish with and learn from
$1200 hm
You could enter a few tourneys with that cash and learn more from your co-angler...
$1200
I could buy a lot of Bass mags, books, and videos with that...
$1200
I could pay a or some very knowledgeable local anglers to take me out for a full week if not more...

Pull up a chair, class is about to begin
I would suggest saving your money and reading a ton here. You may want to hire a guide for a day to learn some new techniques and to have structure/cover explained in person, on your home water, but I don't think there is too much you can learn at a Bassmasters University, or any similar set up, that you won't learn here but hands on experience is priceless.
I say no you would learn 10 times more as an elite coangler 3 tournaments for what he wants
I'm going to be one that agrees [potentially] with fishing lessons. [potentially] depends on the curriculum, if it's just going fishing and experiencing some techniques I say no. If it involves going over choices in tackle, setting it up properly, fishing efficiently, boat position, gps/locator use, thought processes in locating fish, and the list goes on, I say the money can be well spent. the more experience the student has the less overall they may learn. I say this based on my experience as an instructor for Bassmaster University for 7 years/ Bassmaster Classic qualifier. I've personally taught several pay to learn fisherman and had no complaints on the value of their investment. The things I tell my students is to bring their own boat [ for there comfort/and so I can check out their setup, and see how they control a boat they are used to] and not to be expecting to catch alot of fish [ remember we are focasing on much more during the lesson]. Got your interest back? If so check the instructors resume and ask for references. Contact several of these references and ask if the learned about all the above or just went out to catch fish and then decide.
That's good advice fishin_fool. Could you imagine a day with KVD, IKE, or Skeet Reese? I personally would love to rock out with the G-Man for a day.
Great advice.
I don't have the resume that the bass coach probably has but I would be happy to take you out on Champlain for a day sometime late spring or summer. When are you going to be in the area?
I would like to thank everyone who replied to this post. I thought that there was so much good advice on this post. I already sent in my deposit, just before I posted it. I should have asked before I did so but that is my lost. I am going to go anyway and find out how it is. I wil post my experiences and findings when I get back. I am going on May 26,27 & 28. One thing I did not mention is that he has writen articals on this web site and also the PROBASS web site. The teacher's name is Roger L Brown aka ( The Bass coach). Thank you all so very much and I will be asking qustions and posting on this web for years to come.
THANK YOU !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! : :)
Good luck Bass Novice, be sure to bring a notebook and a pen.
For the nay sayers, I don't know what Randall, George, and whomever else guides from BR rates are. I'm not asking either.
A quick google search has shown an average price of 375$ for 8 hours of guide services. This comes out to 1,125 $ for three days. Roger Brown is asking 1,200$ for three days.
Roger Brown is an established guide/coach on a great fishery. What's an extra 75 bones if you're making that kind of investment on a fishing trip anyways?

good luck learn a lot and come back and teach us.
I bet you will learn a lot and have a great time with the coach. Let us know how it goes. If you want to go out later in the summer PM me. I do not live far form Champlain. Maybe you could show me some of the coach's techniques
I'm new to fishing and I've learned a lot from the people at BR, I don't think you can learn that much in 3 days a lot of variables with fishing no water is the same. I've found that you have to just get out there and find your own style.
If you want to learn, anything you can pick up will be beneficial but sometimes the best learning is just experience.
Research this site for 3 days instead. You'll learn more from the articles and posts here and have $1200 left to buy some NICE rods, reels and tackle.
There are lots of guys here (me included) that would be more than happy to talk shop with you and teach you the basics. All you have to do is ask!
Two words for ya... HELL NO!
I'll meet you anywhere in S. Florida for a week and teach you plenty to get you started for , lets say $800?
I'll supply ALL tackle, rods, reels
Hopefully its the best fishing experience of your life.
Good luck
