So what's your style? Do you beat the banks? Not fish till you see something that peaks your interest on your electronics? Offshore? Shallow? Finesse? Power? what is it?
Well I don't own a boat so im always fishing the shallows. And I throw a lot of search baits
I have a small Pond Prowler with no electronics so I mostly beat the bank, structure, docks, or anything else that I can see which might hold fish.
Always an interesting question.
I like to fish for bass that other anglers either don’t know are there or are in remote areas most are not willing put the work in to get to.
What I mean by “don’t know they are there”, is fishing “Trout” lakes and other lakes that get a ton of recreational use. Both often hold a fantastic population of healthy bass that live out their entire lives relatively unmolested. And the looks received by the trout chasers when they see a spinnerbait get launched to the bank are pretty interesting too.
Many of these waters are very easy to get to and fish but by mid-summer, the fishing can be tough.
So this requires a special approach; night ops. It’s a ton of fun; usually a good bite and I Never see another angler at night - Ever. It’s totally worth whatever it takes to always have the entire lake all to myself knowing that by noon time, the place will be like NASCAR with ski boats and jet skis. Mid-week nights (Tues, Wed & Thur) are often the better evenings on the really busy places. But the bass are there and are almost always willing to play. Just being out there is half the battle.
So what’s my style ? I don’t really know what to call it, but I do know it often includes a head lamp.

I tend to lean toward finesse, although I don't call myself a dedicated finesse angler. I enjoy bank fishing, casting shallow water and fishing deep structure. I love fishing top waters, drop shot, Senkos and swimbaits. Depends on the time of the year and the conditions at hand of course. From post spawn to early fall though, I'll be plying deeper water in search of smallmouth bass and lake trout. Started deep water jigging a couple of seasons ago and it certainly can yield great action when the normal routines fall flat.

Old Quabbin Reservoir will do that to a man . . .

I'd say I'm more of a power fishing guy. I like to pound the banks and visible structure. I'm not afraid to go out and fish 30 fow though either.
Shallow + heavy grass = happy me

Me+that peacock in your avatar = heart attack!
Finessee fishing power baits on deep structure at night!
versatility is my style
Shallow water and banks for me. Jigs, soft plastics and a good topwater bite.
I have to say thats me also!On 3/13/2015 at 12:15 AM, BigBlock496 said:Shallow water and banks for me. Jigs, soft plastics and a good topwater bite.
Lures that I can burn though the water, particularly spinnerbaits. After that its weightless plastics fished around heavy cover. I have a jon boat, but spent many years walking the banks and to this day there is still something about it that I prefer. It makes me really dissect the waters Im fishing as you are forced to use the waters that are only within a casts distance.
I like fishing the thickest nastiest cover I can find. The kind of places that other fisherman wont cast to for fear of getting stuck. I would prefer it to be unobvious, sunken and way off shore.
I guess I would call myself a jig fisherman above all else.
I do fish onshore but again I want it to be the thickest nastiest kind of cover. I would cast directly into the center of this:
I like to fish rock structure away from everyone else but unfortunately that is becoming difficult to do.
Stealth. I try hard to not be detected. On quiet water , I sneak up on fish . On noisy waters I often fish in the busiest areas .
Hmm, well I like the hunt better than the catching part. Don't get me wrong, I like to hook up, but I really enjoy & have enjoyed learning electronics and marking fish, structure, etc.. But at the end of the day, it's got to be flipping/pitching heavy cover in Florida.(hydrilla, pads)

Fishing offshore, inshore and freshwater I do some of everything. I'm happiest sight casting on foot in the surf.

Yep , I'm a bass Ninja .LOL
Most of the time I would call myself a slow, methodical, plastics fisherman. Like everyone else I will spent time breaking away from the norm, and working a top water fast, or burn a crank bait. But the majority of the time I'm dragging a stick bait, or worm through the thickest stuff. You must have confidence in what your doing or you will be wasting your time.
Love the shallows.
I fish jigs, t/rigged plastics, spinnerbaits, cranks, and hollow body frogs.
Mostly hitting shallow water cover....and it helps with most lakes in my area being less than 10 ft.
So there's plenty of it.
I usually start along the bank and go deeper. Sometimes I will stay shallow, sometimes I will stay along the deep structure. It all depends on where the bass are.
Bank beater here
I'm almost always beating the banks. Love to power fish but probably have better luck when I slow down with a jig or a worm in shallow cover.

Maine, that picture looks too good to be true!

Ditto

I basically do three things. 1.Find the sloppiest part of the lake (lilly pads, grass, weeds, whatever it is) park my yak in the middle of it, and throw frogs/sickfish. B.Hit the bank and all visible structure. 3. Hop big swimbaits and jigs off points/clam beds.
I suppose I fall Into the category of finding the nastiest stuff around to throw a jig/beaver/or worm, I do this a lot.
On the other hand I, on occasion, am fishing somewhat deeper with a variety of baits. It's been a real eye opener.
I'm fishing the River 95% of the time. Rocky banks, islands, and spillways. Spinnerbaits, topwaters, tubes and flukes.
Power fishing in the heaviest cover available.
I love fishing rocks.
My style? Who knows. I love pitching to heavy cover with big line in dirty water. Early morning topwater explosions? Perfect. Bouncing squarebill off sparse logs and rocks, rocks. In the same day I will dropshot with a fairy wand or drag a finesse worm and be ecstatic about any fish I catch in all of the mentioned above and anything in between. That's why I carry so much esoteric crap in my boat and it looks like an entire preschool was allowed to play in it after a day's fishing. The only common vein I display in any style is impatience! There's got to be a better way, and I'm going to try to find it in the next two minutes. One day that slow rolled super spook on a C-Rig is gonna get nasty! Perhaps the real question should be, if you had to spend a day getting skunked, how would you like to do it? Oh yeah, don't get me started on swimbaits.
Jorts and tie dye.
The best advice I ever had from one of the 25-30 guides I have hired over the years is " sometimes you have to turn around and fish the other side of the boat" meaning, go from shallow to deep.
I really enjoy fishing slowly and methodically, whether that be dragging a football jig on deep rocks, a dropshot or dobbing a Texas rig in the weeds. I do really enjoy throwing a swim jig or square bill though too but have never been a power fisherman on the bank and usually stay offshore. I don't even think I have thrown a spinnerbait in over 3 years and am probably the only bass fisherman on earth who doesn't like frog fishing!
^^ No you're not ^^
Hardly ever fish a frog, don't care for them.
I am a bank beater. I mainly fish with my father in law and we are both clueless if we try going out deep. I need a good teacher to take me out and show me how.
So do I but the lakes I mainly fish there is no out deep.On 3/13/2015 at 10:29 PM, kylek said:I am a bank beater. I mainly fish with my father in law and we are both clueless if we try going out deep. I need a good teacher to take me out and show me how.
Flippin and pitching mostly, any kind of structure along the bank or offshore i dont pass up. Most of my summers consist of punching through lily pads.
Keep it simple Simon. I usually fish spinning gear. Plastics, worms and jigs for fishing slow and paddle tail swimbaits for casting and winding. I usually fish a couple super clear rivers or deep and clear mountain lakes but I like fishing stained water and heavy cover when I get the chance.
Basshole banker here. When I'm not lazy, then it's yak attack. Any body of water I don't know when yakking, I'll bring the sonarphone (budget fishfinder, but better depth and water temp. gadget).
As far as casting and fishing style, that changes by season. Sloooow pig n jig in colder times. Ripping cranks in spring and fall. Mid spring to early summer-frog time. Summer heat brings the mosquito repellant and topwater action. Casting, I've become a little more ambidextrous, still touching up on the left handedness for pitching.
I'm a bank Fisher. So honestly I fish whatever I think might work lol. Lately I've been tossing jig and plastics cause I'm new to that style
I always start from the shallows usually right on the bank and work my way out until I can find fish.
I'd consider myself a finesse angler.
Cast and prey.

If i casted into this id either be out of a 10 dollar lure, or completely destroy the structure retrieving sed lure.....more than likely both though
not having a style is my style...im what you would call "adaptive"
however if i see timber in the water it is d**n hard for me not to check it out and throw everthing into it lol

I would have to say 'all the above', and I'm not being facetious.

I love pitching a jig into every single one inch opening in cover like that. 1/2 oz jig. Rage craw trailer. 7' 6" heavy action rod. 50 lb power pro. Gets the job done. In that exact spot I have caught a lot of largemouth over 5 lbs. More often then not they aren't on the edges but buried directly in the middle of it. If you aren't fishing the middle of it you are passing by big fish opportunities.

If the bass are there, I spend a whole lot longer than 30 minutes there.

Places like that are why I have a rod with 20lb P-Line CXX!!
I do it all, but if I had my choice, I'd rather be in 25ft with a fb jig, 10xd, and arig!

All of the above! You should never limit yourself.
