February Mtb Arrived!! I'm Impressed 2024

fishing user avatarrockchalk06 reply :

Got my Feburary box today. This box was defiantly worth the 15 bucks. Crazy thing is, I put two things back this weekend I wanted to try out in the off chance it might be in the box. They were!

They'd said they were changing things up this month and adding some new things. I won't spoil it all but it's worth it this month.

fishing user avatarMysteryTackleBox reply :

Good deal! Karl VonDibble is a psycic on the weekends and he helps us plan our boxes :)

fishing user avatarMarkH024 reply :

Yes, definitely going uphill each month. Great job MTB again!  And not just in the baits supplied but the "extras" can definitely be worth while!  No spoilers yet.

fishing user avatarJig Meister reply :

Oh man, I am sure I got mine! Need to check the mail.

fishing user avatarFelix77 reply :

Got my confirmation message in e-mail yesterday.  Psyched to see what's in it.  This will be my 1st box.

fishing user avatarJig Meister reply :

Got the mail, was there. Mixed feelings, but overall I am happy with what I got, color is not what I wouldn't have picked for myself, but maybe that is a good thing.

fishing user avatar11justin22 reply :

Not too stoked about mine......my fathers was a much better box. I will wait for full judgement against the baits until I fish them though. Defiantly not something I would have went out and bought but that's why I signed up, to try different things

fishing user avatarSudburyBasser reply :

Well, I certainly picked the best month to suspend my membership, didn't I? Sigh.

fishing user avatarJig Meister reply :

I like the box, overall one of the more useful, I have yet to have that feeling of regret from this company so all is well with me. Might have to stop soon, I am running out of tackle storage haha

fishing user avatarTrapperJ reply :

Got my first box, man i love this!

It was like Christmas morning with lures, with everything i keep pulling out of the box, i'd say $15 a month well spent!

fishing user avatarTNBassin' reply :

The wife got hers today, and she's finally starting to see why i cancelled my sub. Samples samples samples. And we are stocked up on one particular type of bait, since MTB insists on packing this type of bait in nearly every box for the past few months. Definitely not seeing anything that makes want to start up my sub again, that's for certain. Been looking at Fishound, but not sure just yet.

fishing user avatarGlenn reply :

Sounds like the responses have been overwhelmingly positive!  Sounds like MTB is a great way to incrementally stock your tackle box while getting the opportunity to expand the baits and lures outside of your "comfort zone", thus making you a better overall angler.

Win-Win!

We're also lucky to be able to work with other forum sponsors! Both boxes have some Rage Tail in there this month as well as a special offer from HawgTech handles. Thanks for building a great community that fosters collaboration between brands!

fishing user avatarTrapperJ reply :

i dont get the negativity towards the samples, i understood this going in. and like they said in the past, if they gave full packs that means less stuff to try. I rather just have a few pieces to try out and multiple baits, if i like them i will go buy more.

I had broke down and bought one of the items on my last trip to BPS but heck the pack of three I'll give to my buddy to try. He's new to bass fishing and will be excited to add something to is Tackle Box.

I think you guys should hook up with Seibert and North Star to get some jigs ;)

Also just a random thought......if I never got another frog in my box, I'd die a happy man

I'm not a huge fan of them either sometimes. If you get 3 baits, the first one is a practice rigging. Second one is test subject and the third one is good to go. Having a few more would make me know weather or not I want to buy them.

fishing user avatar5fishlimit reply :

Every item in my box will be used, and I know I'll be buying many more of one in particular.

MTB has been giving some nice lures when they dole out the samples, but I would much rather have 3-4 items of full packs. Seems like it was the old bait and switch. The first few boxes were great. Nice hard lures and FULL packs of plastics. Now it's samples. And how many plastic toad type baits do we really need? Between bruiser baits, gambler, and the ribbits, that's three months worth of boxes with the same lure type. SMH. When MTB goes back to packing in nice cranks, spinner baits, FULL packs of plastics etc...then I'll give them my money again. Not paying $15 for one decent lure and samples though.

LMAO! RIBBIT! RIBBIT!!!!!!

fishing user avatarMysteryTackleBox reply :

@TNBassin as we have said many times that the reason we switched to samples was because when we surveyed members and fans OVER 90% said they prefer multiple sample packs to one full pack with a service like ours. We understand you may be in the 10% but when you run a business you need to listen to the majority of your customers, so we made the switch in October. So two months had full plastics and have had samples and a greater variety. I don't think most people view that as a bait and switch as that is what the majority of subscribers have asked of us.

We have featured about 25 plastics since we started and 3 have been frogs, so that's not a very high percentage. Keep in mind that we started doing different boxes so some people down get any plastic frogs the last two months but its also possible some people got in both months. We are starting to build technology that will better help us keep boxes more unique for subscribers from month to month.

Again, we appreciate your feedback but we want to clarify why we made the switch back in our third month.

fishing user avatarTheKingFisher reply :

Haven't tried MTB yet, but I think it's important to remember that something like this is probably not suitable to everyone and I also imagine that a subscribers overall satisfaction with each box will consist of at least two phases, the initial reaction followed by satisfaction of the actual use/fishing success of the contents of each box.

Another thing I would caution those who are happy with the service/products against is feeling like you need to defend MTB. If they put out a high quality product and service, it will speak for itself. The positive reviews will then always outweigh the negative.

I like the fact that the MTB guy shows his virtual face here and takes his lumps like a man. He seems to be even keeled and receptive of the criticisms brought up by the members of the board some of whom have subscribed and have every right to express their satisfaction or dissatisfaction with the product.

All too often as consumers we are subjected to dealing with companies that seem to have a god complex and believe they can do no wrong and that we should feel special that they allow us to buy their goods. I don't get that vibe at all from these guys and I find it refreshing.

You also made the point that you have a lot of plastic frogs left. I think that shows that you are not burning through the samples too fast if you still have them from back in October (Bruiser Frog). We have featured about 25 plastics since we started and 3 have been frogs, so that's not a very high percentage. Keep in mind that we started doing different boxes so some people down get any plastic frogs the last two months but its also possible some people got in both months. Well it's been freezing, our local reservoir's water levels are way up due to massive amounts of rain, and the lake I fish is littered with drift wood and other debris from the storms. Not exactly conditions I like to fish, so my samples are still intact. And whether or not I "burn through samples" is irrelevant. I didn't want them to begin with. If the masses want samples, then I fully understand why you made the switch. I'm just disappointed that the decision was made, because I was really enjoying my subscription before that. I wish you guys the best, and even voted for you for the small business thing a few months back.

fishing user avatarchromedog reply :

I waited a little before I decided to sign up.  But I appreciate samples.    When I first started, I bought everything that caught my eye and 3/4 of the stuff ended up in the yard sale each year.  It gives me a chance to try different things and see if I want to invest in them.  Plus it gives me things that I honestly might not ever try.  But everyone is different.

fishing user avatarFelix77 reply :

Just got my MTB.  A Valentines Day gift to me, from me, love me.  LOL

I am very pleased with what's in the box.  2 of the items were on my list to try out before I got the box.  Crazy enough in the colors I wanted!

Happy new MTB customer!

fishing user avatarBassguytom reply :

I received my box today. It looks great and can't wait to try out the baits. This is my 2nd box so far and I am happy. My wife got a little upset with me playing with more than one box but she's ok now that she got used to the idea.

So what is MTB's approach now? Is it a few samples and a nice lure, or is it gonna vary??

My only complaint is i cant wait to go fishing!

That's been the approach for the last 3 boxes months, although one of our February boxes had a crankbait, jig, and two boxes. March will be a similar approach, although the high value items will be the highest value we've ever done, so we're pretty excited about that and think you guys will be to. Over the spring and summer we will be mixing it up more. Some boxes will have a borader range of medium value items and fewer plastics and other boxes will be a higher value item and more plastics. We are also working to get more exciting terminal tackle to go with the plastics. We have a lot off cool stuff in store for the future and we'll continue to experiment with new configurations based on feedback we get.

fishing user avatarTrapperJ reply :

I looked up the value of the one box lure alone, at TW and it was priced at like $11.XX

So combined with the other stuff i'd say money well spent.

Woot come on march!

fishing user avatarrmcguirk reply :

Got my box yesterday.  I got the squarebill box and I'm very happy with it.  MTB has been a lot of fun, getting new lures that I might not have bought on my own.  I not only don't mind the samples route, I affirmatively like it.  It gives me the chance to play a bit without spending a lot of time or money on a new bait.  I think this coming year I'm going to have one rod designated for experimenting with my MTB samples.

But, I do have to admit that I think I'm done with MTB for now.  For me, it is a winter time kind of thing -- something to keep me from going completely stir crazy as I look out at the snow (in Western NY).  I probably will not continue into the spring and summer, but I'll likely be back again in the fall.

Another point, I did have an occasion to mess up my order on the website and the customer service from MTB was outstanding and amazingly prompt.  So, in addition to having a cool product the guys are good people to do business with.

fishing user avatarsbfishySC reply :

First time user of MTB. Thought it was a really cool idea and I loved the box. Definitely things I normally wouldn't pick up on my own probably, so it's really cool to try these new things out. Got nice colors and the coffee scent was extra nice. Now for the weather to start cooperating....

I've recommended MTB to friends/family. I'm not sure I can continuously spend $15/mo on this, but every now and then I am happy to do so.

Same thing for me. I like MTB but bass has been closed up here since November and doesn't open until June. While I love new lures I've essentially added a pile of lures and plastics in the past three months or so that won't touch water for another four or five months. Doesn't make sense adding more lures than I can possibly use in our abbreviated fishing season. I will unsuspend my membership in April or May though.
fishing user avatarRyneB reply :

Im loving my MTB subscription. I was fully expecting to get my first $5 box and quit. It has exceeded my expectations. Of course theres a few things here and there that i dont need, but thing like the Vibra grub that i never would have thought to try. Now i cant wait for ice out so i can give it a go. Not to mention i ordered 3 more packs of Vibragrubs because im that conifdent it will catch fish for me. I never would have tried this bait without MTB giving me the opportunity. I love the samples as well.

As soon as you get it. If a person hasnt got theirs yet and doesnt want to know they shouldnt read a thread titled like this thread until they get theirs. Give a good title like "Whats in my MTB this month look inside" should suffice.

fishing user avatarTheKingFisher reply :

MTB lurker here, haven't subscribed yet but keep chiming in on posts. But I won't let that stop me now!

Watched a couple unboxing vids on the February boxes and I must say I'm liking what I see. I'm on the fence regarding the sample packs. But as for the items selected to be in the boxes, I like a lot of them.

In fact many are things I've purchased recently or have been eyeing and I think that's right where MTB is trying to position themselves. I also like the fact that they are offering some newly released items. Good job on that.

Just looked up  about 10 Washington orders and only 1 has been delivered so far, so looks like most of them will arrive early this week. Typically far east coast and west coast states are the last states in the US to get packages. That's just the nature of USPS and we wish we could speed them up but unfortunately we can't. Hang in there!

I think this is a fair point. Maybe the first one to post about their MTB can put "spoiler alert!" in the post title so people who did not get their boxes know not to open the thread? in any event....

This is what I got.

I love the box, just am not a huge fan of the color of the bird. It is white/red w/ char skirting for for wings and tail.

Now, just because I don't like the color doesn't mean I wont fish it, just not what I would have picked for myself, but that is probably a good thing.

Make sure you guys follow the instruction here on how to "tune" the bird before you fish it (second video). The first video has some great tips on how to fish it. Don't fish it like a frog...: http://mysterytacklebox.com/flip-in-the-bird-lure

That 'Flippin the Bird' bait looks awesome!  I like the 'red winged black bird' color for it.  Those kind of birds are all over my lake in the summer.  I got a feeling that lure would slay bass left and right.  On TW its a 12 dollar lure.  That plus the 3 pack of Shellcrackers is worth 15 bucks right there.  Everything else is just icing on the cake.  Not a subscriber yet but hopefully I can get a subscription when I get my tax money back.  Also I like the idea of the sample packs and being able to try out some new stuff.
