I don't really live close to any real lakes, so I often go to some small ponds close by just to work on technique, accuracy, flippin, etc. But every time I go, there is stinkin ice on the ponds >. Where's this global warming they keep talking about :-/ Help me El Nino .! Sorry, just had to vent.
Hey, tell me about it I don'thave to drive to a lake! I know that the water is hard :'( :'(and I am going NUTS :'( :'( >. It will be hard water untill about late March or April :'( :'( :-/ > > I am thinking of filling the tube up and playing with my lures! 8-) But I think my wife will put me away. :'( :'(
I hear ya'. Not only the coves, but the main portion of Smithville Lake, north of Kansas City, has been frozen in many spots and it's a 7200 acre lake with a maximum depth of 50 - 60 feet. When its frozen I know all the ponds and small lakes are frozen. I have cabin fever bad. I need to wet a line. I could pay to fish off the marina docks at Smithville. The water at the deep end of the marina is not frozen.
I got so tired of it I went to Texas Fri. -Mon. Didn't catch a bunch, but had an 8# 4oz, two 5's, and a few others. At least I got a little reprieve from cabin fever. ;D
Feel your pain here, the lake I go to has ice on it, Im afraid its muddy too
Umm yea you guys better not let us Northern boys hear you complain to hard about some of the smaller ponds and lakes that have Ice. I was looking at my home waters watching 4 wheelers and snowmobiles drive all over it. I started to shed a tear and it froze on my cheek... :'(

I am disappointed that I can't fish right now, but thanks for the reminder that it could be worse. I wouldn't want to be in the shoes of you guys in the northern tier of states. It's bad enough here in northern Missouri, but I'll probably be able to hit the water at least by late February, if not sooner.
I guess it depends on your glass.
Mine is 1/2 full. Ice will be settled in by the end of the week and I plan to give ice fishing a try this year. My buddy has a neighbor with all the goodies we need so why not!?!
Redtail- I'll be using your hot dogs in a thermos trick!!
IF I HAD THE MONEY...I WOULD MOVE BACK TO CALIFORNIA.......I DISLIKE SNOW AND ICE.. >
Yep the winter blues have set in here too. High today is 33 then for the next 10 days the high will be in the 20's.
Heeeellllloooooooooooo Spring where are you. I'm going crazy
Senile 1, Where do you fish in Mo.? My wife and I bought some land in Kimberling City Mo. if you know where that is. I will build there in about 31/2 years when I retire.

Thats a funny statement. My glass is still half full. I don't really want to go ice fishing here in St. Louis because I know I won't catch anything. Basically because the ice is only 1/4 inch thick.
Does the ice usually freeze up enough there to go out on?
hasn't been thick enough to walk on for as long as I can remember :-/

I'm not quite that close to retirement age but I've been doing tons of research on moving to another city further south within the next 4-5 years. Fortunately, my company has some divisions in other cities.
Here's what I'm down to so far
Nashville
Columbia SC
Daytona Beach FL
Charlotte NC
Still in the running
Dallas
Houston
None of those towns experience ice and only Nashville really ever has anything close to cold weather. I move somewhere with nearby good fishing lakes and warmer year round weather close to the gulf coast where I can also head out for some beach relaxation and SW fishing.

I think it will be by the weekend. I'm thinking about ice fishing. Just gotta figure out how to cut a hole in the ice with hand tools. I guess I could use a 2" drill bit and drop a jig in the hole. Reason is I seriously doubt I catch anything.
WHAT ARE YOU GUYS RELATED TO PENGUINS AND POLAR BEARS?? i HATE ICE,SNOW AND EVERYTHING THAT GOES WITH IT ARUGH!!!!!!
Brrrrrrrr.......It's cold in Music City......freezing tempuratures, snow and ice predicted tonight.....no ice thick enough for ice fishing in Nashville though.......just cold and messsy enough to keep you inside.....good weather for a BPS excursion!
or saty home with the ol lady and put those slow tunes on
Sorry for the late reply......
I was fishing pre-spawn! ;D ;D ;D
Hookem, Boy you sure know how to hurt a guy!! :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( > > > > :-? :-? :'( :'(

Kimberling City is nice. I see you're coming down from Wisconsin. My wife and I took a vacation and fished on the James River arm of Table Rock last summer. We drove into Kimberling City just to check it out. It's beautiful country down there. I live in Kansas City and the large lakes I mainly fish are Smithville and Truman Lakes, with an odd trip here and there to lakes further away. I'm 46 so I still have a way to go before I retire, but my wife and I have been looking at lots and acreage that we could buy and then build a home on later. I've found some decent places in Missouri, but like Cart7, I'm going to look at places futher south as well. It would be great to retire and fish all year round.
Senile 1, We have been going to Kimberling City for the past 10 or12 years. We love it down there, the people are so nice and the bass fishing is great. We are coming down again in May 18-25. I bought a lot, in Fisher Creek, high on hill over looking the lake, what a cool view of the Rock.

Thats like a kick in the beans. Not very nice. ;D
I know I complain alot about the weather but I really cant complain. I like the different seasons. I dont think I would like the temp hot turning hotter all the time.
I would like to move to Springfield MO.
I'm with you G-Man, Springfield MO would be my pick as well. Close to a lot of good H2O
We had snow in Tucson the other day, lasted until the afternoon. Had ice on the bird feeder too so I can empathize. Mr. Cats first snow and he exhibited a strong negative reaction.
I like different seasons too, but I'd like to be far enough south where my lakes aren't freezing over, including the smaller lakes.
The ice is all gone now. The snow covered it up .
Could someone please mail me a snowball? My kids don't know what one looks like........ ;D ;D ;D ;D
Actually, we did have some cold rain/sleet last night here in GA and half of the state shut down. :
You warm weather guys are killing me. I have a serious case of cabin fever too. 10 " of snow on the ground and another blast of the white stuff is hitting right now.
Last night most of the school districts in the Middle TN area closed due to a forcast of snow or ice......when we woke up this morning the actual accumulation was ZERO
Hi everyone!
I know that feeling. I've had cabin fever for several weeks now. Fortunately the weather warmed up some so I'm going to see if I can put my boat in in the morning! I know of a rock shoreline that drops off into deep water. It has a southern exposure so that rock should have been soaking up some heat. I can hardly wait! . I'll post again soon and let you know how I do. See ya later!
Donnie
still waiting for ice to melt. >
Cry me a river ! Our lake ( Cascade,in Idaho ) has over 20 inches of ice on it,and it won't go away until mid April to early May.I do NOT like ice fishing.
What's ice? 8-)
Its what happens when you are typing RICE and miss the R
5 degrees this morning .
