Are we going to have the members challenge again this year? I know its a little early to start this up but I'm bored and jut thought of it.
I think we had alot of fun with it last year and we learned alot.
I hope so! Finally got a decent boat this year, that i feel safe in, ha ha. Can't wait to see what the challenges bring this year.
Jason
I'm sure we will do it again this year. I think LBH just deleted the 2006 thread because it was taking up space. I could be wrong though.
I learned a few new techniques last year while participating so I look forward to this years challenge alot.
Hey guys I havnt heard of this challenge before. What is it all about?
Basically, the members challenge is where everyone who wants to participate signs up on a thread that will probably start next March or April. The basic jist goes like this, after a bunch of people sign up by listing their limitations, strengths and weaknesses, the first person on the post challenges the second person to fish a lure they have never fished before. And the challenge is to become confident in the lure and catch fish with it. The challenging carries on down the post until the last person is challenged and then they challenge the first person on the post. Here is an example if I was going to post on the thread to participate in the members challenge:
I am a non-boater who only fishes from shore. I usually fish small ponds that have stained to murky water. Most of the lakes I fish have good cover such as stick-ups, laydowns, milfoil, and alot of over hanging trees. The pond I fish most often is totally smothered with hydrilla.
I am confident with:
shallow to medium crankbaits
plastic worms rigged weightless
topwater lures and
jigs
I have no confidence in:
jigging spoons
carolina rig
drop shot rig
deep cranks and
jerkbaits
The person who signed up before me would challenge me to fish one of the lures that I have listed as one of my non-confidence baits, keeping in mind my limitations such as that I am only a shore fisherman, so some challenges may be next to impossible to complete. In other words you wouldn't challenge someone to fish a crankbait if they said they fish ponds that are full of weeds. You have to take into consideration what they could do, and what they couldn't do, and give them a fair challenge.
You have to have a digital camera to take a picture of the bass, and be able to post it on the site. If you get skunked, most people put up a pic of a skunk. But you have the whole month to try to complete your challenge.
It is alot of fun to catch that first fish on your challenged lure. The point is to become confident in more lures.
I can't wait until spring!
Its really strange that you mentioned this today. Before I left work today, I PMed Russ asking this exact same question...
Great minds, I guess
New here, but I'm game if this goes down.

Hey that sounds pretty cool. Count me in.
Its sounds like a good idea. I got in on it late last year and the one time I did enter I never did get my challenge though.
The thread was not deleted, it's just in storage for now.
We will kick this up again around April or so. As soon as everyone has fishable water again.
I think overall, after we worked out the glitches, that it was a well recieved, successful idea. Looking forward to season II
I would be up for it as well. I'd like the chance to improve my record. This time I'll try renting a boat everytime I go out...except that will mean I am fishing the same waters over and over again.
but once you find the right water,.....that is somthing to look forward to. Unless I am attending a specific function at a specific place, I am always in the same body of water.
I've fished the entire state a few times over and lots of bodies in the neighboring states and none draw me like my sacred place.
I am definitely looking forward to trying to find "new water" within the "old water". The places fish get POUNDED to death from April to September by a ton of fisherman. But very few seem to use boats even though they are available for rent at $5 a day. I guess they just don't wanna paddle around...sissies . But I plan on trying to key in more on offshore structures that may not receive as much pressure this season. I think that is where my quest for breaking my 5lb goal should start. Another plus to trying to get to this new water is I'll be in great shape...I don't have a trolling motor or battery, so I'll be getting around with nothin' but man power! ;D

CAN YA START IT IN MAY?
CAUSE I HAVE NO PLACE TO FISH UNTIL THEN. WOULD LOVE TO PARTICIPATE, BUT NEED THE CHANCE TO GET ON THE WATER...UNLESS WE DO GILL FISHING...LOL :
I'm game although its gonna take some time for me to have fishable water. The powers that be are getting back at me for going out fishing on Jan 7th.
:-/ :'(

Good Lord! That is brutal. I couldn't live in cold like that...I'd go insane.

I would be more than happy to lend you my trolling motor and battery as long as I came with it.

Hey, you know what mah friend, I just may have to take ya up on that offer! That is a very generous of you. Thank you. We'll have to get out there and see if we can't put some pigs in the boat.
Remember.
The challenge you'll be signing up for will be the next month, right LBH?
I believe we determined that it was difficult for some to do the challenges because they were being recieved so late in the month of the actual challenge.
I'd suggest start the April challenge signup on the first of March.
I would like to get into this but we have hard water now up here in Wisconsin , and our bass season is closed untll the first Sat. in May. Oh I think the bass are open untill March 31. But it is so hard to cast and hit that little hole! :'( :'( :-/ :-/ :-[ :'( :'(
I'm in too! Seems like alot of fun!
I am game for it to start whenever this year maybe I will get to participate a little more since I wont be working on the road anymore will beable to get some more fishing in as well as a few more tournaments this year.
I am probably game. Even though I have plenty of fishable waters within ten minutes of here, I cannot fish that often because of my dads tight schedule. And I am only 13 so I cannot get there alone. By early summer, I hopefully will get more time. If so, count me in.
Sign me up, sounds great. Who knows maybe I'll learn to catch fish on a deep crankbait. PSH yeah right lol.

That would work for me
Sounds like fun and a great way to force yourself to learn something new. I am in
