I can't fish anymore because all the water is frozen! :'( I don't think ill live through this winter without fishing!!!!!! :'( Sorry, I had to vent, lol
We'll all make it through this... together.
Been through this my self, found that taking up ice fishing helps. Still not the same, but certainly helps
SOLUTION #1
Drill a hole in the ice.
SOLUTION #2
Take a vacation in the deep south.
Take up fly fishing for trout/steelhead or ice fishing. There's nothing like a 28+ inch Steelhead to keep your fishing addiction at bay for a while.
In order to keep my sanity, and to not resort to buying every lure I come across during the winter........I purchased the stuff to make my own jigs and spinnerbait skirts. I bought several lure blanks to paint, and I bought wood to carve swimbaits all winter. Gotta do something so I don't go nuts. Beer, football and college basketball (Go Syracuse) can only save me for so long.
Take a fishing trip South...
I am really missing out on it as well... I am hoping to get on a vacation soon cause this stinks lol

this time of the year i do a few things. strap a sidearm on and walk lakes looking for crank baits. you can find new places to fish as well doing this. i clean all my gear. reels get a total breakdown. rods get hit with Meguiars cleaner and the handles are hit with magic eraser. one could also seal the handles. my boat gets detailed. all the while im hunting so.........
3 months goes by fast.

Look on the bright side.....today was the first day of winter and the shortest day of the year. From now on, the days just keep getting longer!
It'll be March before you know it.
.
I feel your pain. I went out today in shorts, sneakers, long sleeve shirt and hoodie. I only managed to catch about 8 because a COLD front came through. It was in the 60's by noon time. ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

A BIG x2!
I am right there with ya.
I've been singing the same song. We've had ice for three weeks, and I'm already getting the shakes.

x2 Our UPS guy is a tournament fisherman and fishes for steelhead in the winter. He's talked me into trying it (wasn't that hard) ;D

Maybe next time you need to fish "meticulously."
I almost forgot. I also bought the BPS game for my Wii. It is actually a fun game and sure takes the edge off. When you are use to fishing at least 5 days a week, the northeastern winters can to make you insane.

Man, being from upstate NY, you have the best of all worlds. You have the Salmon running in Sept., Browns in the Fall, and Steelhead all winter long. Then springtime hits and you are in smallmouth Heaven for at least 6 months.
god I can't take it anymore, I'm running away to texas! lol, maybe "Santa" will get me a new MH 7:1:1 gear ratio rod for some mat fishing and 1oz jig fishin. the bait monkey is gonna go crazy this winter! lol, well I know when it's fishing season again because March 1st is my birthday. wo hoo. sotr of bittersweet since well still probably have ice :'(

oops sorry, I forgot, no one mispells anything on this site, apologies all around
I feel ya too. I was laying under my buddies truck the other night helping him change a flat. The windchill was 33 below. All I could think about was you lucky jerks down in Texas and how nice it must be to not have 2 feet of ice on all your water >

That's what keeps me going. I'm thinking about going out into the garage and putting away some tackle that's just laying on my table out there. It'll be chilly but it'll be worth it.
The weather hasn't been too bad here in beautiful Cumberland Co. Tennessee and I've been getting out almost every day. Only had my rod guides ice up once when I was fishing at 29 deg. Water temp has been running about 42 degrees though and catching in my little lakes here is poor. I haven't caught a fish in December yet :-/ Haven't seen a bass since November but did have two nice rainbows follow my spinner back to the bank a few days ago. Now, if they just would have hit ......
