Whats up for this comming year? 2024

fishing user avatarbigbill reply :

Whats your plans for this year?

What are you going to do thats different?

I'm going to fish more and try to use plastics more. I tend to use what works like mostly crankbaits and topwater spooks/poppers. I need to focus more with different baits and not always rush and switch baits too early. :)

fishing user avatarKU_Bassmaster. reply :

Spinnerbaits.

fishing user avatarJT Bagwell reply :

I am going to attack my weakness head on.

That would be Finesse fishing. There are some

tactics that I have avoided just because I would

prefer to pitch jigs and Kreatures all day. The

problem with that is, sometimes the fish want a

little something else in their diet. Like maybe a

little Kut Tail worm or something small.

fishing user avatarGatorbassman reply :

Senkos- I have been fighting it long enough. I will have one on everytime I go out.

Jigs- I have spent all this money on a great flipping rod and I have jigs comming out my rear. It's time to use them.

Crankbaits in cover- I wan't to get rid of the fear of loosing one in the thick stuff.

What do you fish with Fluke?  If I only take three rods out fishing ....... those three are what I am taking. ;D

But then everybody can look at mine and say ....... Spinnerbaits??  Yep.  They just don't appeal to me and whenever I have thrown them they haven't appealed to the bass either.

fishing user avatardink reply :

I think this year I'm going to trust my instincts more when I'm actually on the water and save my booksmarts for the planning phase.  I have second-guessed myself (especially in tournaments) way too often lately.  I might try crankbaits a little more year-round also.

Have you not been reading my post for the last year!!!!! The Spot Remover, and Fluke is just about it. As a buddy of mine once said. "I would rather watch paint dry than fish with a senko."

fishing user avatarRoLo reply :

I intend to spend more time with Brauer's go-to lure, the Jig & Trailer.

fishing user avatarKU_Bassmaster. reply :

Duh??/Just should have looked at your name ...... ahhhhh yes the "Fluke"  If I had to take a 4th rod, it would be the Fluke ..... lol.

And come to think about it, your the one that pointed out that they were spotlighting the SpotRemover on Fishing University a few weeks back.  The bait monkey and I thank you.  That type of fishing is fairly new to me, but I am confident I will be able to hammer em' on tough days this year.

So yeah, now that I think about it ..... I knew that. ;)

fishing user avatarChris reply :

Last year I broke down and used a worm some with good results. I kinda changed how I approached some water and it opened up my eyes to some things I forgot. Plastics are high on my list for this year.

fishing user avatarKU_Bassmaster. reply :

It's true what they say...... So many baits, so little time

fishing user avatarLow_Budget_Hooker reply :

DEEP WATER.

fishing user avatarbassnleo reply :

I'm going to continue to refine my finesse skills. Last year I started using a drop shot and finesse worm on a jig head more. It really paid off on the tough days. Heck, I love to whack em on a power presentation like everyone else, but last year was a tough one around here, hot temps, little rain, made for many difficult days. Just looking forward to new season, no matter what the conditions.

fishing user avatarRattletrap reply :

We are all ready trying down here in Short sleeve Winter South Georgia. I'm going to try that Shakey head technique next.

fishing user avatar5bass reply :

I have to get back in touch with my jigs.I hardly used jigs at all the past 2 years.Seems I've gotten into a pattern of fishing too fast and the jig just doesnt allow me to cover lots of water like I want.

I'd probably catch a few more fish if I would just stay in one place long enough to throw my jig.......it's hard to do though, plus I'm buying a new trolling motor next week. ::)

fishing user avatarRattletrap reply :

That's what the Pro's know how to do. They can slow it down and methodically work a lay-down for example. I watch Jimmy Houston throw a Spinnerbait 6 or 7 times in the exact same spot before he caught a bass. Pro's have that patience when needed. One or two casts and I'm moving on. I need to slow it down and make more casts. I got to work that area like the Pro's do. Tightlines!!!

fishing user avatarCJ reply :

I'm not sure that I'm going to change alot but to fine tune my presentations and try to find any of the little things that may get that strike.A couple examples,I love to drag a jig or tube in deep water.I used to use a regular jig and I am going to a football jig.I am going to try a few different colors of tubes.I think I'm going to throw a spinner in the shallows a little more in the spring.

fishing user avatarGrey Wolf reply :

I'm going to fish more plastics this year. senkos , craws , lizards. I still feel the effects from all the spinners and cranks I threw last year. Elbow problems.

fishing user avatarRattletrap reply :

Brass-Brat. I know about those elbow issues. Tendonitis in both elbows. Getting older I guess. It won't stop me from fishing though.

fishing user avatarhipster_dufus reply :

i too am feeling the effects of too many cranks.i am going to the c-rig and plastics this year. jigs are hi on my list this year also. god grant me a little more patience! i  also want to fish a few more lakes and try the ones i have not had luck with a little harder

fishing user avatarguest reply :

Welcome to the sore elbow club.  I got mine from jerkbaits (dern they are fun to fish)

My determination is to learn how to catch fish swimming a jig.  I love jig fishing but it is all vertical presentation.  I have only once caught a bass swimming a jig.  I was more surprised than he was.  My water is usually stained so that could be part of the problem, but right now it is clear down to 3 maybe 4' in spots so I'm hoping.

Speaking of elbow problems.....I couldnt effectively set a hook with my left arm the last 2 months of the season last year. After testing it was determined that I have tennis elbow.Doc gave me a cortisone shot and now it feels like I have a brand new arm.But !@#$%^&*, that cortisone shot HURT!

fishing user avatarsrv1990 reply :

Wow, where to begin... so I won't, other than to say: fish more, learn more and keep checking in on BassResource.com!

fishing user avatarbasspro48 reply :

Man I SUCK at winter fishing, so this coming winter I am definetly gonna spend more time on the water. Also I have to work on Carolina rigging, I haven't thrown one in over a year and I've really lost my feel for it.

fishing user avatarSiebert Outdoors reply :

Spoons and Dropshot.  I still need to get better at both of these techniques.

fishing user avatarRattlinrogue reply :

I've always been a pretty fair shallow water fisherman.Of course,I'll continue to fish shallow, but I'm going to continue to try and become proficient as a deep water angler.I've been working on this from late Summer into Winter.I've learned a lot about it from being on this forum, and hopefully I can continue to learn.I'm much better at it than I was last year at this time.I'll try to do the things I do best and work on all of the new techniques I've learned.

fishing user avatarcedar1 reply :

I'm hoping to fish with Ball_Coach_1 enough this year that I will learn how to fish a C-rig and some other deep water tactics.

fishing user avatarguest reply :

I WILL set a new PB in 2006.  >:(

fishing user avatarkbj3579 reply :

Wow, I've got a long list, but I name a few of my tops.

1.  Deep water (This is number one on my musts)

2.  Jigs, been working on this but need some more work.

3.  Carolina rig, I think I would rather take a beating than throw this, but I have to.  So I've got to get                         better at it.

4.  Stick with spots I know hold fish and be more patient.

5.  Finish first in my Club.

I can't wait for my club season to start.  5 weeks to kickoff!!

fishing user avatarbenzo73 reply :

I am starting over, I bought a boat so everything is going to be new to me. I will be able to fish new waters I have never fished before, we will see how the year turns out.

fishing user avatarCaptain Cali reply :

Swimbaits & Soft Plastics. I have confidence in swimbaits but can't throw them for too long. I want to commit more time to swimbaits. I have very little confidence in soft plastics right now so that has to change.

fishing user avatarranger50 reply :

I am going to continue fishing for deep smallmouths(15-25 ft.) and take my daughter with me fishing as many times as she wants to.
