Please help, I think something is wrong with me! Ever since I started fishing 3 months ago I can't stop looking at fishing catalogs, staring at different bodies of water wondering what might be in there, and buying lures with no idea on how to use them properly. BPS and DSG are having sales and I'm buying just because it's a sale.I have 5 different bags of worms and and 3 other bags of soft plastics.I even take a worm or two to work with me I go to bed at nite and wake up in the morning thinking about the next time I can go out. What's illogical is that to date I have only caught 3 fish, all dinks! My wife and kids think I obsessed! ( i don't know why, maybe it's because of all the time I spend on BR blogs) Is there help for me or is it terminal? Tell the truth I can take it
u needa calm down and go fish..... you will soon realize that you only use 10% of all da lures you have..... unless your job is to fish you wont need a whole lot of lures
true statement about getting kids involved with the outdoors than rather stuck inside playing video games.... for me fishing, hunting, and the great outdoors kept me out of trouble and soon enough i stopped gang banging and started bass fishing
It's terminal. But remember that every hour you fish is added to your lifetime.
You can't have too much tackle but you can sure have more than you can use. I know that for sure.
Enjoy it while you can.
I've been feeling the same since i was 8. I'm 15 now and all i've done this summer is here and fishing. I'm starting to have sleepless nights thinking about all the latest and greatest fishing equipment and tackle.
Not to mention it's hard for me to leave Bass Pro without spending 50+ dollars on tackle alone Haha and just keep ordering free catalogs from Bass Pro! Its like Tylenol it makes the bad feelings go away!, but be warned... Its only temporary. Haha my family has told me i'm addicted and people I dont know at BPS have told me I have a problem. Once the bait monkey gets on your back, all he does is grow, and grow, and grow!!
If your lucky, your family can help you. The only cure is to buy more. And they have money. haha
Between me and the forum, I've taken a worm and brush hug to school a couple times! ;D 8-)
Your not alone.
Wait till your out there at 3:30 am for 3 or 4 months straight everyday till you burnout. I did this for many years. I would not fish in the later months because i was so burned out. This year instead of trying it in the spring i'm going to get in the everyday at 3:30am mode soon and fish until it snows. My one of my biggest fish was hooked and lost in late november when it was snowing. Of course i was all alone but not cold.
Yup i went thru the catalog thing too after every fishing trip. I have a tackle room bigger than most mom and pop fishing shops. Now i tell the misses i lost a lure to get more new ones. : My point is it only gets worse trust me i know.
Its not luck in fishing its skill.... ;D

I just purchased a new plano 9600 tackle box. I filled it with all my topwater lures completely. When the fishing is slow i will use and practice my presentations with every lure. Then a bass will always interupt me the nerve of them when i'm practicing. BigBill
I just ordered another plano 9600 for my cranks. I can go from 6 tackleboxes down to maybe just 3 or maybe 4 tops.
You can never have enough tackle.
Take your kids fishing and teach them a skill, hobby, and obsession that will keep them occupied and out of trouble for the rest of thier lives.
Your wife will think your a genius and you can say you did it all for the kids. And someday, maybe, your kids will thank you.
Remember there are a lot of addictions worse than fishing.......

May not be addictied to fishing, But the gear 8-)
But yes i'd rather have a kid addicted to something positive like fishing , outdoors, then have them being addicted to drugs

Your a perfect example of my point, a 15 year old hooked on fishing. A much better hobby than alcohol, drugs, geting in trouble, or just ticking me off in general. I have a feeling you'll go a long way.
You should thank the person who got you into fishing...
i have a serious addiction
i must read bps catlog or any fishing magazines and it will help me go to sleep
if i dont do that then i couldnt sleep at all
Welcome to Bass Resource (A.K.A. Bass-aholics-anonymous.)
Hello, my name is Jason and I have a fishing problem...
The first step is to admit that you have a problem.
The is NO CURE.
Whew!! I thought it was just me. I have so much tackle its unbelievable. I scour Ebay all the time, looking for bargains. 25 bags of Zoom worms for $.50... Sold!!!
Do I need all those Zoom worms...No, but I wont be running out any time soon. I have totes of extra tackle in bags stashed in a Station wagon in the carport.
I buy assorted lots(different bags of bait all in one sale). I take what I want from them, and sell the rest so I can make more money to buy more stuff.
I have so much tackle in my 10' Jon Boat, its not funny. I have 3 16 qt containers "filled" with bags of soft plastics. One contains Senkos and other stick baits,1 contains Creatures and 1 contains just worms.
Then theres the Plano organizers. I have probably 8 on the boat with me. 1 for hooks,1 for weights,1 for deep cranks,1 for shallow cranks and ultralight poppers,1 for jitterbugs and jigs. I have 3 different Mepps Killer kits on board with me. 2 buoy markers and a crawfish trap.7 poles, each rigged with a different bait. I also have a tackle bag in which I carry extra reels, spools of line my boat registration, tools and more bags of soft plastics. Ive told my wife I need a bigger boat!!
I always try to hit clearance sales when they are going to discontinue items.
I take my wife into BPS and ask her or the kids to help me look for the "red tag" items(clearance)My wife has grown to dislike BPS. But I just gotta go as there isnt one around my area. Closest one is in Tempe,3 hours away from me.
My wife hates when the mailman comes cause shell see me pull a package out of the mailbox and just cringe.
I sometimes find stuff on clearance and buy lets say 20 bags of a bait that isnt going to be carried by the store anymore cause they are selling at $.10 a bag. I really should try to sell some of it to recoup some $$$ and purchase more, different items, but I just hang on to it.
I broke an entry level rod just this evening and I couldnt help but smile. This just gives me a reason to buy a new rod.
Isnt it GREAT!!!
Oh anyone have an aquarium? Do you test your baits out in it to see what kind of action it has?

Sadly enough. yes. I actually have bass in my tank too but whenever I put a lure in a remover the hook or rig it so i can't hook them.
I don't put my new lures in my fish tank, but I do cast into my pool with almost every new lure I buy to make sure it's just right.
Can't wait for BPS's Labor Day sale. ;D
I Love BPS sales. It gives me an excuse to spend 3 hours in a car to visit heaven : 8-)
OK here's my little secret...... A little quality time with your wife and kids will get you more time on the water.
Ever since we started a date night she has no problem with me fishing every day I can.

My girlfriend tolerates my trips to BPS, and my constant fishing because I spend 70% of my time with her and/or her family. Remember that quote, "when your woman/wife is happy, you/your family is happy."
It is definately true.

Being newly married that is such a true statement!!!

After 25 years of marriage she looks forward to my days on the water!
I think I need medical attention!!
Resistance is futile, accept it, I've had it for 55 yrs now

I've got bad news for you...you've got bait monkey fever, and yes it is terminal (pun intended!)
You can't treat the cause, only the symptoms. Take two basstrix and call me in the morning...
it's called a passion! i got it too, and it ain't goin nowhere. why it's bass fishing, i'll never know.
You don't need any medical attention. Wait until you start spending way too much money and time. I've spent close to $28,000 this year, and no, I didn't even buy a boat.
I go fishing 4 or 5 times a week, and all my vacations are used for fishing. I don't need medical attention yet.
bass fishing is almoat worse then heron i spend 600 hundred on a combo and when i get it i fish it and then its like wow omg if ths is so nice i wonder what somthing more exspensive would be like it just cant pull the trigger on gloomis yet but i might have to since the promblems in my hands and back is getting worse
I'm with you... have bought Lowrance HDS with SS, two Gloomis including NRX,bout to pull trigger on two new reels (one will def be steez)! And I spend at least $40 everytime I go to a tackle store! Now I am in the market for my first "big investment" (note I didn't say good investment) post college (other than my small business that is still a baby) of my life and I'm looking at bass boats real hard! DOH! Take me to the basspital! Nevermind it is terminal!
ps. this is my first "serious" year fishing!
guess I better spend the rest of my days on the lake! I'm going fishing.
LOL. I think I got the same disease. I have spent at least $100 more in plastics (that is a LOT of plastics) since i declared my plastics collection complete.
Though I blame the guys who make them to darn pretty and tempting.
By the way, do you notice your symptoms seem to get worse are you approach a new season? I find the weeks just before fall are my worst. about 75% of my crankbaits were bought during that time period. The only solace i take is that nearly all of them have caught at least 1 fish.
It is addictive, I work on a ambulance and I've dragged my partner to the local lake and have fished.
be happy youre hooked on a sport that you can participate in until you cant use your arms any longer.
great hobby for the soul too.
do you really take a few worms to work? thats pretty funny. one of my dorkier friends always carries a d20. he sometimes uses it to make decisions.

You should punch him in the nose for 1d6 damage. ;D
I think the medical term is "anglerietis". Its hopeless unless you get out & fish! LOL!!
Same issues here
Bass resource
BPS catalogs
fishing whenever possible
thinking about fishing 24/7
thinking about buying equipment 24/7
I'm screwed
The tackle is the cheap part..Just wait till you start buying boats and truck to pull said boats..Game on...
LOL you need some fishing time
How do I know my case is bad? I ask my lucky swimbait (shadalicious 3.5" in sexy shad) for advice on everyday things.
I spend almost all my free time here or out on the water.
I can't sleep because i'm always thinking about my next big purchase.
I clean my rods and reels daily, just to have an excuse to touch them.
I re-organize my whole tackle bag/box system every time I purchase any lures, even 1.
The salesmen at Bass Pro know my name AND phone number (They call me to make sure i'm alright if I haven't visited in 2 weeks as a joke)
I used to always keep a bag of YUM ribbontails in my school backpack, for some reason i dont know.
At seminars, Pro anglers have personally told me I have a problem.
I can assure you, this disease will take over your whole life.
BTW when you get newborn family members you can buy them expensive reels and sacrifice your time to break them in and use there reels for them 8-)
