How Long Do You Last 2024

fishing user avatarOroBass reply :

How long do you guys fish? It's not unusual for me to fish sun up to sundown for bass. When I sturgeon fish we stay on the water for up to 3 days! How many of you only fish a few hours at a time vs pulling all night ears etc.

fishing user avatarSTPC reply :

Wow!  You must definitely be single.  I get a few hours, or minutes, at a time before the wife needs me to do something.  Count yourself lucky to be able to spend that much time on the water.

fishing user avatarOroBass reply :

I'm an addict. I pack a lunch and spend my entire day off on the water. Some days I'll fish be for or afterror work as well.

fishing user avatarCatch and Grease reply :

Man, I had to take a double take on the title lol

During the summer I'm usually fishing from before sunrise till I get tired of the heat and I head in which is usually like 6 hours but sometimes if I'm doing good I'll stay a little longer.

fishing user avatarOroBass reply :

Nice! Glad to hear I'm not crazy. I've had days were the bite will be great at say 7 am then die but turn back on at 3 pm and so on.

fishing user avatarJrob78 reply :

Anywhere from 4 hrs to sun up to sun down.   Usually closer to 4 or 5 hrs in the heat of the summer.

fishing user avatarjignfule reply :

When  we get  a chance to get out this time of year 10-14 hours on the water isn't a rarity. In a 100 degree heat it can wear on you. (only if the fish aren't biting)

fishing user avatarslonezp reply :

I like to get off the water before the crowds start.

fishing user avatartholmes reply :

Due to some health issues, I'm only good for ~3 hrs. or so. If it's really hot, maybe only 2 hrs. I just can't do those "all day in the boat" trips anymore.

Tom

fishing user avatarOroBass reply :

I'm sorry to hear that tom.

fishing user avatarJar11591 reply :

I'll stay out ALL day if I have nothing going on. Today I fished 5 am until 3:30 pm, so 10.5 hours. Would have stayed longer, but my dog was by herself. If the fish are biting, you can't get me off the water, unless your name is lightening.

fishing user avatarflyfisher reply :

All depends on what all i have going on that day.  I haven't found too many days to be that productive when i am on the water 12-14 hours unless they involve a good bit of paddling.  I get to for whatever time i can and have spent a few hours walking the bank of a local pond or wading a stream for smallies.  If I am fishing for brookies in the mountains, that is generally an all day affair and I usually end up hiking out by headlamp.

fishing user avatarjoeeagles36 reply :

usually 4 to 8 hours if its hot sometimes longer. I also pull all nighters for them big cats and crappie.  depends if im catching them.  I take the boat after work and and atleast 2or 3 days a week I go for atleast a hour before work on shore.

fishing user avatarAlonerankin2 reply :

We used to do 16 hr days on orange/ cross creek / Lochloosa in summer/ 12 hrs on St. John's river.. I was a younger man then... Now, I hire guides and do 4 hrs. And at home anywhere from a hour to 4 Kentucky lake are about 8 hrs. I can't do those super days or nights anymore.

Rejoice o young man in thy youth...

That's the truth... Lol!!!

fishing user avatarKevin22 reply :

Usually 2-3 hours. Sometimes 4.

fishing user avatargeo g reply :

I don't ever fish for more than 4 hours, but I do it at least 6 days a week.

fishing user avatarOroBass reply :

Lol

fishing user avatarOregon Native reply :

Since had the pancreatitus I'm back to getting better an better....up to about 8 or 9 hours now... was only two for a long time.

Like fishing dawn to dark, especially back in the ol days when fishin lots of tourneys.

Remember once fishing San Diego bay when I was in service.  Fished 24 hours just so could see the different tide changes and what they brought.

fishing user avatarLoop_Dad reply :

I've recently moved from California to Texas. It is not just hot but humid. I do not see myself enjoying fishing all day in this climate. A lot of locals fish night time this time of the year. Also good fishing lake here gets so busy with wakeboarders. Because of these, my current pattern is to fish from 5 or 6a to 10a, so I get my fishing before the heat and traffic. Back when I was in California I used to fish 6-8 hours.

fishing user avatarSoFlaBassAddict reply :

This time of the year, I try to get out prior to the sun coming over the horizon. It's way to hot and humid to be out in the middle of the day though. If the fishing is absolutely phenomenal, I'll deal with the heat. Otherwise I'm generally heading back home around mid day.

fishing user avatarSirSnookalot reply :

Everyday day my fishing starts at the ocean, no compromise on that ever.  Everything I do is seasonal fishing, from the areas I fish to target species to time of day that I leave and come home.  This time of year I do no bass fishing, the bite is slow, hot and humid, insects and sun intensity.

January thru March I get offshore a bit more, that's sailfish time with the rough water.  March thru June I do jettie fishing, and it's the beach from July til the end of the year, that's inshore at it's best here.  In October with the weather cooling I'm fishing salt in the mornings and bass in the afternoons, after March I get much less bass fishing in, but I target peacocks until about the end of June.

There is no set script I follow as to the amount time invested each outing, the bite controls my time.

fishing user avatarpapajoe222 reply :

I stay out as long as I plan to and sometimes longer.  If I have only four hours free, I'll be ouit the whole four.  If I go night fishing, sundown to just after sunup is the norm.  When I'm on vacation the little time I spend off the water is to sleep.  The longest I've gone is just under 13 hours, but that was when I was young and spry. Now if I go out for ten hours, I'm usually ready for a nap. :sleepy2:

fishing user avatarJosh Smith reply :

It really depends.

I would prefer to stay out all day, and have, but when I take my boy or the fish aren't biting, I tend to come in after two or three hours.

I need to take a mini-vacation and use the time the fish aren't biting to throw out some live bait and cook up some food; just stay out all day like that.

Josh

fishing user avatarTNBassin' reply :

Longest I've ever fished was around 14 hours. When we got off the boat, it felt like I still out on the water for a few hours afterwards. Now my average is around 5-7 hours, though with work being a PITA I haven't been in weeks. Killing me.

fishing user avatarCatt reply :

My grandson & I go twice a week usually from first light until 10 am. I still can fish 10-12 hours straight but then my back is toast for 2-3 days.

I have been known to fish 18-20 hours straight but was 20 years ago!

fishing user avatarlong island basser reply :

My outings usually last between 4 and 8 hours

fishing user avatarWRB reply :

When I lived on a lake fished only a few hours at a time. Living in SoCal most lakes open 1/2 hour after sunrise and close a 1/2 hour before sun set, you miss the early dawn and late dusk bite. The drive to these lakes is about 1hour, add 30 minutes to hook up and put away the boat, you have 3 hours before fishing to each outing. Fishing from open to lake closed is about 13 hours + 3 = 16 hours away from home and did that for about 100 days a year for 40 years.

Today my on the lake time is about 6 hours, 9 hour day about 60 days a year.

Longest time fishing on the water is 3 weeks an annual marlin/tuna trip to Mag bay Baja on a private sport fisher, fish unless traveling or sleeping 24/7, did this for about 30 years, very tiring trips.

fishing user avatarDogBone_384 reply :

I work two jobs, so I fish when I can.  I generally get out for two to three hours at a whack without a hitch (unless I get called back to work, which happens).  I'd have to say that I could go sun up to sundown as long as I brought sandwiches and drinks, but I've not had a day with nothing to do that I can remember, so I'll chalk it up on the "TO DO" list.

fishing user avatarGary0155 reply :

I broke my wrist a few years back so casting for hours at a time can take its toll . I purchased a lighter reel last year so now I'm good for about five hours.

fishing user avatarsenile1 reply :

When I have the time, I'll be out all day, especially on vacation.  Generally, I don't have that much time due to work and keeping up with my responsibilities, so I take what I can get which is anywhere from 4 - 8 hours usually.  It is probably split evenly between 4 - 6 and 6 - 8 hours.

fishing user avatarBankbeater reply :

If there is no family stuff going on I will stay out for 10 to 12 hours. 6 to 7 if there is something I need to get done.

fishing user avatarplumworm reply :

When I was 28 it was dark to dark. At 68 it's how long my body hold up. Usually 4-5 hours and I'm toast.

fishing user avatar5 Dollar Fishing Game reply :

Title got my attention............

Lol

I usually go 3-4 days a week. Ranging from 1-8 hours.

31 years old. Married. One daughter. We all fish. ;-)

When I read the title I was like, oops I accidentally clicked on everything else haha

fishing user avatarK_Mac reply :

Like everyone else, it depends on the day and who's with me. All of the lakes I fish are at least a 30 minute drive. Most are about an hour. I generally fish at least 6 hours, and often from first light until late in the afternoon. I will take a lunch break to relax in the shade come midday. I don't have a garage so loading and unloading the boat requires a bit of work. I only go once or twice a week, so I want to get my moneys worth.

fishing user avatarBluebasser86 reply :

We fished from 7:30 PM to 10:30 AM Thursday/Friday last week. I fished for almost 30 hours straight for bass, muskie, and pike in Minnesota once. Normal trips are 6-12 hours.

fishing user avatarHeavyFisher reply :

Long enough to get er' done and put a smile on my face at the end of the day.

fishing user avatarporkleaker reply :

crack of dawn until around 10-11, come back for a break and some lunch and then head back out around 4 or 5 until sundown. That's on a good day though.

fishing user avatargallowaypt reply :

It's usually how long my wife lasts before she's calling telling me to come home. With a 4 month though, I can't complain if I'm out for 30 minutes.

fishing user avatarFishTank reply :

I usually am out for 2-4 hours before the wife drags me home.  Sometimes I wish my cell phone would vanish.   I do make a point of trying to get out for a weekend of all non stop fishing once a year but the last two years I have not been able.

fishing user avatareverythingthatswims reply :

I will fish for 30 minutes if I have 30 minutes, and I will fish for 12 hours if I have 12 hours. I have spent up to 16 hours in one day fishing without a break besides stopping to eat or use the bathroom when I'm at the beach, the way I see it, if I only have 1 week at the beach I better take advantage of it!

fishing user avatarJeff H reply :

Usually right around 8 hrs for me.  I'll go longer if I'm on new water or the fish are really hitting.  When it's ugly hot/humid (i HATE the humidity) I'm often done after 6 hrs.

fishing user avatarPaul s reply :

Just depends on if I have work or not but ive gone out at 3:30am and stay out till 10 or 11pm.

fishing user avatarMontanaro reply :

All day long

All right...giggity

fishing user avatarcrazyjoeclemens reply :

I try to get on the water early, like sunup or just after.  If the weather is decent and the bite is good, I'll be out there till 10 or 11 before I pack it in.  Then I'll head back out late in the afternoon and fish till dark.  My local lake is only 20 minutes away, so it makes it pretty easy for me to be selective about when I go.

I hear you.  All the lakes that I fish take 30 minutes or more to reach.  Also, I store my boat about 20 miles from my home because my garage doesn't have enough room for it and the housing association won't allow me to keep it in the driveway for too many days.  It takes a bit of work to get ready for a trip.  I do have a 10 foot jon boat leaning against the inside of my garage that I throw in the back of the pickup for smaller lakes, but when I take the big boat there is work involved.

fishing user avatarColdSVT reply :

Usually four or so...unless im fishin a tourny

fishing user avatarFelix77 reply :

I am a few hours at a time kind of guy.  My work and family commitments don't give me much choice.  I will say that even when I have "all day" to fun fish I tend to neglect food/drink and it drains me in a few hours as a result.  Better preparation and I could be on the water forever.  :)

fishing user avatartcbass reply :

Really, this is a pretty personal question!

I'm good, but can't last 2-4 days like some of these guys! Far from it. lol

fishing user avatarChris9999 reply :

When I bank fish alone, it seems that I last about two hours exactly. On a boat with a buddy I could go all day

fishing user avatarskeeter1980 reply :

I'll let you know in a few weeks.I'll be turning 65 yrs old..

I can last about seven-ten hours, but it kills my knees and back.If i'm fishing with someone,i'll let them run the trolling motor, while I sit back and rest.

X2 here. I fish for about 6-8 hours a day on Saturday and 4 hours on Sunday on a weekly basis. It get's way to busy during the heat of the day on the lake so I stay in then.

fishing user avatarFrankW reply :

Age and temperature has a lot to do with how long I fish. Fifteen years ago I fished all day in the Winter but only half a day during the Summer. Here is Florida the Summers are tough on fishermen. I use to fish three or four days a week and now I am down to once a week. My partner and I start at daylight and fish till about 11:00am. This is 5 or 6 hours. I am 79 and it is harder to get the boat back into the garage. I have to push it part way. The sun and humidity is tough on me during the summer but it depends on how many fish we are catching. Some lakes are two hours away so add 4 hours of driving on top of the fishing.

I can tell I am nearing the end of my fishing with only a few years left before it is physically too much for me. At the end of a day I am beat. My legs hurt and I am exhausted. I am trying to stay in shape and any day fishing is still a good day. Even if the day is only 4 or 5 hours long.

Frank

fishing user avatarSouth FLA reply :

Two years ago family keys vacation my days went like this 6 AM to 9 AM flats fishing usually solo, 9 AM to 11 AM breakfast and offshore rigging, 12PM to 5 PM offshore fishing or diving, 6PM-8PM dinner, 10 PM to 12 PM bully-netting for lobster. Did it for 2 straight weeks, was beat up physically and mentally had to take a week break before I wanted to go fishing again.

fishing user avatarColdSVT reply :

I put in a six hour shift yesrerday...my back is not happy with me today lol

fishing user avatarsparky241 reply :

appreciate every minute of it, i dont have the time or energy anymore to do all nighters. i usually only get out about 6-10 hrs a week

fishing user avatarJ BASS reply :

I use to fish 6 days a week 4 or 5 during the week and at least 8 on weekends on average

Today I pretty much fish just on the weekends and it is hard for me to get out of that 8 hour mode as that was normal tournament hour time..

If it is a good day I may quite a little earlier than 8 hours but if it is tough I may fish even longer as it is always a challenge to me to beat the

bass at their deal and try to figure the deal out...

Boat traffic is normal for me and I block that out and even use prop wash to catch on an attack type deal bait like a spinner bait..

Back in my old full time tournament deal I would fish during tournament hours and learn the lake until super time or motel check in the rest of the time putting around and a looking.....

The old saying that I learned from an old timer was "You are no better than the water you know"

fishing user avatarBIGPAP72 reply :

Down here in Florida you fish as long as you can until the sun melts you. I have fished all day sometimes. But for most part I get in a few hours a day or every other day. Im am a native and the heat doesn't bother me. But when out with friends they can't handle more then a few hours.

fishing user avatar5 Dollar Fishing Game reply :

Wife and daughter go with me most of the time. So we usually collectively decide which is about 3-8 hours. Depending on the day. ;-)

fishing user avatarOntarioFishingGuy reply :

Sometimes I'll fish from the morning until around 10:00 PM. The only reason i leave is because in the summer, the mosquitos gather by the thousands around your head.

fishing user avatarZippyduck Krimm reply :

My wife goes with me, so we fish all day and sometimes hang around for some catfishing at night. we fished everyday of our 10 day vacation, only leaving the water early, 3 P.M., one day.

fishing user avatarSlade House reply :

i did a 545am to 8pm day on thursday, not uncommon for me
