For a school project I have to create a business, so I decided to do something I was passionate about and create a business related to fishing, and if you could help me out and answer these four questions for an assignment I would extremely appreciate it. My business is kind of an Airbnb for fishing. Farmers or other pond owners would list their water available to fish on the website, and then fishermen could look at the properties and pay the landowner a certain amount to fish their ponds.

1. Value as in monetary, no. Value as in usefulness, purpose, etc... yes.
2. No. I'd rather fish a free body of water and figure it out or learn failing. The only way I'd contemplate it, is if I were fishing to provide a meal and the body of water in question had some guarantees. But, I don't often fish for food, or am in a position to need to pay to find it. So it's highly unlikely.

4. No. I live in a state with tens of thousands of lakes, streams, and rivers. I don't need, or have a desire, to fish private for $.
Sorry bud. You'd probably have better luck (IMO) having an AirBnB style business for hunting a variety of animals on private land for $

I would say totally and it really just depends on when and where for price but I know those public lakes can be aweful so sometimes I want to go knock on someone’s door and be like can I give you ten bucks to fish in your pond. I live in Nebraska so there are tons of people who own a few acres and have a little pond on it. What you could do to make it better is have people write reviews so that you know if the pond is any good because you don’t want to get ripped off paying to fish in a pond that has aweful fishing. It is also good to have that option because say the public lakes don’t have as much vegetation but the pond does it might be worth the few bucks to be able to fish a top water frog or punch or something. 2. Maybe...this one is tough. I already have a great variety of water available -- but, then again, a lot of it isn't entirely free, when I factor in launch fees, rentals, local permits, etc.
3. So, if I could put a kayak or canoe in - I think 10-15/day wouldn't be unreasonable. I'm unlikely to pay to fish from the bank.
4. Perhaps. I'd certainly check it out -- especially, if app/use is free. I'm guessing that owners will cover cost, vice renters....?

4. Would you use this website/app? Why or why not? No. I am not a fan of any "pay to fish type propositions" on top of the various license and launch permits that I already purchase every season. Where I live you can still find untapped fisheries if you are willing to work to unlock their secrets.

I think that you see some of the problems with your project. A great many of the members here already live in areas where they have good fishing, so the idea of paying more for it than the the fees and expenses they already deal with doesn't appeal to them. I grew up in such an area in NE Wisconsin, but now I'm living in a place where there isn't enough available water to inspire much fishing. A large percentage of Colorado fishermen are trout oriented. I on the other hand, would pay a reasonable price for some decent bass fishing. I'm already looking at a few resorts in northern Wisconsin for a summer road trip. For me, anything with a larger lake would have to include boat rental, since I'm not planning on any marathon outings in my canoe.
To answer your questions:
1) Yes
2) It would depend on the situation. If there is reasonable free fishing available, then probably not.
3) Depends on the size of the pond. It would need to be large enough that I wouldn't feel like I was being crowded. One of the things that attracts me to fishing in my canoe is the relative solitude that I can find.
4) If there was good content, useful information about the area both for fishing and for any other activities, then yes.

Absolutely, I currently do and the fishing isn't even that much better.

Depends on the size, amenities etc. Does it have boat/yak rental, or is it included, is it open to the public or strictly a fishing lake. Probably be willing to pay upwards of 50 a month for a place relatively close to my house that has biguns and is less crowded.

Yes, I think anything you can get that helps you learn or actively go out and fish is worth having regardless of how often you actually use it.

This sounds similar to a project I had to do for a college assignment about a year or so ago before I graduated. What kind of class are we talking here? Quality/statistics? Business management? Something else? Is this a group or individual project? And who posted these questions, your teacher? Or are these your (or your group's) own proposed questions? I ask because it might affect how I answer these questions.

Sorry for the late response, I haven't been on in a few weeks, but the project is for an Entrepreneurship class. It's an individual project where we have to propose a feasible business idea. All of the questions I came up with my self.

Not sure when this is due (if it hasn't been completed already), but I'll take a shot at these.

Yes, although here there is basically either freshwater or salt water. The freshwater tends to be either cold and semi-clear up farther north where I don't go a lot, or very murky, dirty, and warm like it is where I live along the gulf coast. Different waters definitely offer different opportunities to catch different species of fish. For example, river/brown and rainbow trout up north, whereas down where I am we have flounder, snook, red fish, black drum, crappie, and several species of bass, including striped.

Possibly... but I'd want some kind of guide service or boat access (rental or whatever) that came with it if it was a larger body of water. I'm not really familiar with this concept though, most people here would allow you to fish their ponds without any kind of fee cause that's how we country Texas people typically are. The one stipulation there would be to require some sort of imposed size limits on keepers. For example, in my own catfish/perch pond there is a certain size of female I will not take for eating because they are my mother fish and I want them to continue to spawn for the next years.

Again, I've never actually done this so I am not sure what's fair. But let's say it's a lake that includes a guide and/or boat access for the trip. I could see $100-125 / year for something like that. Think there is actually a lake near me that does offer such services for around that price. Personally, I cannot budget something like that but a lot of people do.
4. Would you use this website/app? Why or why not?
The idea is intriguing, but there are a lot of sites already out there for similar reasons. My one thought of that is that the site would need to fresh, laid out cleanly, and have frequent updates to make it worthwhile. For instance, Fishify is an app used by a lot of people, but it's rarely updated in my area. The fish reports are few and far between and not very recent, dating back to a year or more.

You don't have to fish to be in the fishing industry.
So you don't have to try to start a pond or lake fishing service, although you may be able to pull it off.
Check out the vendors at the Bassmaster Classic for ideas on the products and services offered to support our fishing habits.
You will note so many businesses you can write about starting, including the products and services you want to offer and sell, necessary start up capital and where to secure it, rental space needed and the square foot cost, furniture and fixtures, improvements and betterments to the rental space, shelving for products, number of employees needed, employee training, cash register and inventory systems, health insurance, taxes, overhead, expected shoplifting losses, sales to include "loss leaders" to get people into your store, the ages of your patrons, property-casualty insurance costs, alarm systems, telephone systems, CPA fees for filing payroll and annual taxes, city/county personal property taxes, any vehicles needed for delivery, any bass boats needed for advertising, entertaining investors and manufacturer reps, the benefits of being an LLC vs. an S Corporation, and the list goes on.
Whatever you decide to do, don't forget the overhead listed above. Especially the taxes. The IRS loves you.

JK, I just remembered the place in Goochland that has a beautiful pond that you can fish.
$75 for the canoe and I think $100 or $125 for the bass boat with the trolling motor.
I visited the place and may go to it later this summer to try to catch one or two of their lunkers.

P.S. Not to rain on your parade, but farmers do not like people fishing their ponds. People leave trash behind; kill the fish; and the liability exposure is way too much for anyone who lets unknown people use their ponds. An individual could fall in and drown; go swimming and get into trouble; fall out of their boat without a PFD; damage the bank releasing and loading their boats off their trailers; have a problem with bugs and snakes and larger animals attracted to the trash; have an allergic reaction to a bug bite and not have the right medicine on hand; have a medical problem and getting sued for not having emergency phones by the pond to call for help; and messing up the pond for the cows.
Just offering a real world view for your consideration.
