Others Fishing In Your Casting Zone 2024

fishing user avatartomustang reply :

So we shore fish, no way around it for now, the biggest problem is boaters coming over after they see us bring in a bass. ticks me off to no end, especially when my wife is the one catching the fish. I never see a boat guy motor over to another boat and cast by them if they catch something.

Yeah I know I don't own the lake, but common courtesy should be there for these types of guys too, some more respect for women as well

Maybe they need to learn how to fish from my wife since she catches em and they don't :D

fishing user avatarJigfishn10 reply :

Nothing wrong with that rant. Common courtesy should apply to all fishing circumstances, IMHO. Did you politely say something to the person(s) in the boat?

fishing user avatarBass Junkie reply :

This is one of those situations when a 16" Swimbait really shines...... Once they have to duck it a couple of times they find their manners   But seriously, this is a growing problem, and one that peeves me too. I'd just ask them politely to move and if they don't I'd pick up the pattern somewhere else.... Never no what some people will do....

fishing user avatarclayton86 reply :

I had this problem yesterday but from other bank fisherman. Aparently the salmon run has started and there were some guys at the dam after I was allready there for 2 hrs they waded out and set there lines. I just did some strategic pitching pulling smallmouth between there sets. I told them salmon don't make it that far up for another 2 or 3 weeks especially in this low water but they figured salmon swim at light speed and can make the 20mile trip over night in less then a foot of water in most of the river

fishing user avatarMuffinMan reply :

Always keep an arsenal of junked lures in your box and launch them onto the deck of the boat a few times.....they'll get the point haha :D

fishing user avatarBluebasser86 reply :

Bouncing a 1 ounce football jig off the side of a boat will get someones attention. My dad and I were on a good walleye bite one time when a guy in another boat came roaring up and parked 20 feet away. Not really a big deal because the fish were on top of a rockpile about the size of the boat so he would only be picking up the fish that might be cruising the side. Well after us catching a few more keepers and him getting nothing he actually casts and bouned his jig off the side of my boat! :mumum: He let his line out and started slowly fishing his jig back like nothing had happened. When he reeled in and looked like he was about to make another cast I yelled at him and promised that not so nice things would happen if that jig hit the side of my boat again :devil3: He still kept flipping his jig at the rockpile we were on but I guess they didn't want anything but a vertical retrieve and he left. I've had a few other times were someone was being inconsiderate but that one was by far the worst. Some people out there just have no sense of respect for anyone. Unfortunately the more time you spend on the water the more likely you are to meet them.

fishing user avatarSirSnookalot reply :

I don't encounter that problem fishing freshwater in Florida, but saltwater is another matter. I have dislike for bait fisherman from beach or pier, fishing many lines, taking up lots of space, crowding the casters out, and those d**n cast nets. I just leave and find another area to fish.

fishing user avatarshootermcbob reply :

I actually had a guy troll thru yesterday and ask which direction I was heading, and if I minded if they went around me and fished down the bank.

Refreshing, and it is usually not the case, but it was certainly appreciated.

fishing user avatarTouchTooMuch reply :

funny story about this. Me, my dad, and my grandpa went fishing for white bass in the maumee river. We were in a boat pulling in fish and another boat decided it would come over right across from us in the same spot. So my grandpa (mind you, my grandpa is one tough S.O.B and a no bull kinda guy) tells my dad to bring us over next to their boat, we get there and my grandpa picks up the cinder block we were using as an anchor and launched it into their boat. after a few words the guys left completely. I mean loaded thier boat and left. Moral of the story: dont fish in my grandpa's spot

fishing user avatarBig-O reply :

If a polite explaination like "Excuse me, we're fishing here and really don't need any help" doesn't work... Hold up a rod with a 1 oz sinker and a 8/0 snagger treble hook tied on it... normally get's the point across quickly ;)

I've been tempted to bring out the musky rod , 6oz should be big enough to think twice

We even have that problem over 10+ rods out by one man on a pier in Colonial Beach. WOW! I stop going if my boat not up and running I don't go saltwater. Sadly my boat been down for over 4 years so I only been fishing saltwater a very few times.

fishing user avatarjiggerpole reply :

I'm fishing this point and had caught a couple of nice keepers. A guy about 100 yards away see's it and starts heading my way fishing right down the bank and went between me and the bank where I was casting. I said to him, it's a big lake and you have to fish right here. REALLY! He never said a word and continued to fish. I put down my rod and cranked up the big motor and idled right next to him and just gassed it, and riding in tight circles just out from his boat.

Another time I was fishing down a bank and noticed a ski doo coming my way. He kept getting closer until he ran right up to me and sprayed me with water. Wow are you crazy I yelled! He turned to come back and I picked up a rod with a zara spook and tried my best to catch him as he went by. Barely missed. He didn't come back.

One more and I'll stop. A game warden pulled up to my boat while night fishing. I was completely legal in every way. He checked for everything. Then he said the reason he pulled up was because my lights were not on. "They were on" and I told him they had not at any time been off. They have been on the whole time buddy. He said very quickly. HEY I AINT YOUR BUDDY. I never said another word to him as he kept talking. The more I stayed quite the more angry he was getting. I guess he finnally gave up and left when he saw in my eyes that the only option he had left was to take me to jail.

i know how you feel! my wife and i also bank fish. And today i was casting for bass ( caught my PB! ) and she was bobber watching for pan fish. She was doing decent about 12 keepers in a 2 hour period. and 3 guys looking for a spot to fish seen it and casted whiten 3 feet of her bobber. Mind you we fish at sterling state park here in Michigan and there is TONS of open fishing areas. It bugged me enough to pack us up and head home. I wasn't looking for a confrontation with 3 guys when its just my wife and i.

fishing user avatarRoLo reply :

Tom, if it makes you feel any better, we've encountered that same problem

fishing from a boat. On more than one occasions, my wife boating a bass

has caused one or more boats to converge on my spot.

I've done my share of shore-fishing, and realize that shore-fishermen

don't have the mobility of boaters. But strange as it may sound,

when other boats converge on my spot, I typically leave the entire area.

In this way, I not only lower the worth of my spot,

but reduce the accuracy of my waypoint. :)

Roger

fishing user avatarjohnnytoxin reply :

I know how you guys feel. I cannot afford to buy or rent a boat so I do all my fishing from shore. I fish diamond valley lake here in so cal a lot and every time I'm out I get the guys in their fully loaded bass boats trolling right through my casting space. Never do they say anything to me, they just hang right there! It's funny though, they always seem to get skunked while I'm always catching fish. Fish can sense kooks......lol

fishing user avatarSirSnookalot reply :

I don't over rate myself or under estimate a person who I may have a confrontation with, there is always some one bigger and badder and that might just be the guy. Pitching sinkers or throwing anchors more than likely will putting you in the legal wrong, I don't think it's worth the hassle, fish elsewhere.

fishing user avatarjohnnytoxin reply :

If you are referring to my post, I don't underestimate anyone, I am just saying from my experience and the other posts here, people who are not courteous to others usually reap what they sow. Skunk-reapers

fishing user avatarRatherbfishing reply :

I once fished with a guy who liked to musky fish. He would cast his big musky baits a looooong distance and plunk them down right in front of where bank fishermen were situtated. One of the bank fishermen read him the riot act and I just smiled. I don't fish with him anymore.

verbal is as far as it goes, sometimes an idiot has to be told he's an idiot

fishing user avatarFuture Tournament Junkie reply :

This happens to me a lot. If I'm bank fishing a haul one in, there is almost always a boat coming at me from a little ways down. My little 2 man boat (can fit in the back of my truck) isn't very intimidating, but I don't waver in my plan if we were there first. Pretend like you don't see, and fish right towards 'em. If you have no etiquette, you might see a little boat coming at you (all 40 lbs of thrust my motor can provide).

fishing user avatarBassin_Fin@tic reply :

Try wading through 1/2 mile of mud and water trying to catch redfish once and deal with the mullet net/seine fishing boats and then tell me again what really fires you up! They will drive a full circle around you standing out there just out of casting range. Your in 2-4 ft of water and they litterally spook and round up the baitfish. Afterwards you can just walkk your happy azz back the 1/2 mile you came because the entire area is finished for several hours. It gets really bad out in the salt! Worst part is there is so much water. MOVE ON! I'm on foot!

fishing user avatarLesley reply :

I have never had a problem with this in the past, with the exception of my friends down shore coming up to hog my area. Strangers tend to stay where they are. Maybe I have a wild cast that scares them? But I also do not like to stay in one area for too long. I am not a worm and bobber kind of fisherman. I need action when I'm fishing.

fishing user avatarRaider Nation Fisher reply :

Since I've started packing a rifle with me, I haven't had another person come within a hundred yards of where I'm fishing. Must be something about the three hundred pound man wearing camo from head to toe, with a .308 strapped to his back and a machete on his waist. That keeps people away. I believe it is natures way of saying back off.

fishing user avatarBassThumb reply :

I had a middle-aged guy and his young daughter in a 14' aluminum boat troll within 20' of me with his outboard last week. He didn't even look at me, and just pretended I wasn't there. I was fishing a rockpile in the middle of a lake with a black buoy out, and he almost ran over the buoy. People are extremely inconsiderate on this lake. I've had numerous incidents in the 6 weeks I've been fishing the lake. It's just a small 70 acre lake, 50 miles away from home out in BFE with a really nice rocky hump that's about 110' x 40'. I guess the locals think it's THEIR rockpile, and they don't seem to want me parking on it. The two other incidents were a homeowner with a 300HP inboard pulling tubers at top speed within casting distance and doing figure eights 150' away while staring me down, and some crappie anglers idling up and dropping anchors 35' away with a big splash.

fishing user avatarjignfule reply :

Yah, with fishing it's sometime a problem. Just never take up duck hunting. It can get lethal
