Ever catch the same fish twice? 2024

fishing user avatarfrostbyte reply :

Have you ever caught the same fish on the same day?

fishing user avatarJohn M reply :

I" ve got a good eye, but unless there is a distinctive marking, I can't tell the bass apart with exception to size, and it would be shortsighted of me to assume that the 14 incher i previously caught isthe same 14 incher I just caught. So No ,I can't say that I did.

fishing user avatarGrey Wolf reply :

Yes , have you ?

fishing user avatar405z06 reply :

Yes, on live shiners in Florida fishing from a pier

fishing user avatarzero limit reply :

Same fish 3x with in 15 min. could tell by the chunk missing from it's tail

fishing user avatarRaul reply :

Yup, 3 casts later after I released it.

fishing user avatarHornytoad 10 reply :

I actually put a different colored mark, on several bluegill and caught one of them 2 different times.

                      NO FISH WERE HARMED!!!

fishing user avatarJ. M. Richardson reply :

I went fishing one day and casted from a pier and lost about a 17 inch bass but saw where it got hooked before it broke my line. The next night about the same time, I casted to the same place and hooked a bass, pulled it in, it was the same size and had a hole in its lip in the same place I hooked it the previous night. So yes, bass will bite more than once on the same bait.

fishing user avatarJay S reply :

never with a bass, but have caught the same panfish with my 5yr old numerous times.

fishing user avatarhookset on 3 reply :

Actually, about a half  dozen times I can remember (bassin'40 years). I grew up fishing farm ponds and golf course ponds.most fish had never seen a lure before.

They are also in double trouble when they are on beds.

I've broken off bass, only to catch them later with a diff. bait or even the same worm.

As it states at the bottom of my page...

fishing user avatarstealthcaster reply :

I've caught one fish (2lb bass) I know of at least 3 times at a nearby pond, 1 inch scar on the left side of his body tells all.

fishing user avatarGoose52 reply :

Never had that I knew of ... until today. Yesterday I caught an 11" bass with an unusual diagonal abrasion of missing scales on one side. Today - I caught him again and from the same place. Now, I'm trying to remember if I caught him several days ago as well...

fishing user avatarsteezy reply :

Yes, in fact caught the same fish with 20 min but 50 yards apart.

fishing user avatarD4u2s0t reply :

I've caught the same bluegills multiple times, release, cast out, and watch it go and hit the bait.  after a few times I just moved it somewhere else because it kinda got annoying, even though it was funny at first.

fishing user avatarevrgladesbasser reply :

I've caught the same fish twice but not on the same day...

fishing user avatar32251 reply :

Fishing a dock one day...got a hit on a red shad colored plastic worm..the fish was close to the boat..i stuck him too hard and broke the line at the hook....i tied on a pumpkin seed worm....cast back out to the dock....got a hit...landed the fish...there was my red worm hooked  in him....got it back and released the fish.

fishing user avatarSJB1226 reply :

not twice 3 times! I was shiner fishing on the St.Johns river this FEB and got in a school of pickrel and hooked up landed him it was hooked deep cut the hook of threw him back a few mins later caught the fish again I know because the hook lol unhooked released 10 or so mins later caught him again.... my dad was ROFL I was ticked that was 3X wild shiners at 2.40 each well he wasnt killing another one because this time he went in to the cooler (Both sides of live well had shiners and I didnt want him beating around in there killing any more of them so I put him in the cooler I wouldnt have killed him if I didnt have to but he wasnt killing anymore shiners lol. and this story is 110% true to the tee.

Ive caught bass twice in a day a few times, find one on the bed catch and release and then stop back by the bed a few hours later and catch again. some fish will run off the bed for up to a few days after caught when a lure comes close but some wont and can be caught and re-caught many times.. catch them two times in a day come back a few days later and catch them again... now that im older I dont do it anymore tho I wont pull a fish off the bed unless im in a tourney and that fish can help pay some bills. I used to try to catch every fish I seen off the beds (I catch and release ONLY) but now I dont like messing with a bed just to catch a fish, now if I see a really good one on the bed I may try to catch her snap a pic and release but it has to be a GOOD ONE! like 9+ good. the reason I dont do it anymore is because I was bed fishing and wasnt in a tourney and as you all know they are "Pretty" easy to catch when on bed and you will hook up with more then you dont when you see them on bed so anyhow I see her pitch a jig in the bed and quiver it and bam she hits it I set the hook and land her and shes bleeding like crazy and was hooked in the gills and the gills was ALL KINDA tore up.. I got her off let her go and she was floating with in a few mins as I trolled looking for more beds.. after that I said I will never do it again unless its in a tourney because not only did I kill the fish I stopped her spawn so I killed her and the babies that would have made it to adult hood (Givin thats not many but still) and she was a nice one pushing 7 full of eggs. it broke my heart I HATE hooking one bad and I HATE blinding one. but its part of the game I just dont mess with nest anymore.

fishing user avatarzbigbadaaron reply :

I caught this blue catfish in a pond at Tennessee multiple times during a weekend.

fishing user avatarGoose52 reply :

Was fishing a spot about 4 days ago with a Zoom Fat Albert grub t-rigged and weightless and got an aggressive hit on the retrieve - had the fish on and got him close to the bank and could see it was a nice size LMB but then lost him. Lost my Fat Albert too. The strike was sorta unusual as it was a solid, fast strike - not a "touchy-feeling" type of hit I've been getting with this bait.

Yesterday, I was fishing the same spot, also fishing a grub, but a different brand and color, when I get an aggresive hit and land the fish. It was 16" LMB and while removing the hook I see a little plastic tail sticking out of its throat. I grab the tail with the hemostats, pull, and out pops my Fat Albert grub from 3 days before.

Same fish, same spot...

Hope I catch him again !

fishing user avatarOlebiker reply :

I broke off a fish on the hookset last spring.  I came back to the same spot about 30 minutes later and caught a fish.  He still had my lizard and hook in his mouth.

fishing user avatarTriton21 reply :

YES!!!   It was my PB and was caught at the second Lake Fork Roadtrip.  I hooked it on a senko type bait and it broke off.  I retied and threw the same type bait to the same snag and hooked it again.  After landing it as I was taking the hook out I saw my other hook and bait in it's mouth.  I removed both hooks and realeased the fish after weighing.  It weighed 8lb 9oz.

fishing user avatarSam reply :

Yes.  :)

fishing user avatarS h o c k e r reply :

Fishing a small pond had a fish break me off... Two casts later caught the fish with my Candy Apple Power worm and hook still lodged in its mouth.

fishing user avatarjignfule reply :

yes, an 18'' smallie within a half hour of each catch.

fishing user avatarIncheon Basser reply :

ok this is going to sound a little cruel at first but we have  rule on the lake i grew up on that states all green sun fish must be removed when caught. so we would cut them in half and throw them back in for the cats to eat.... well one day I was board and cut of every fin and then threw the little sucker back.... caught him again 3 months later no fins and all.... them little green suckers are tough

fishing user avatarhusonfirst. reply :

Yes, I've caught the same fish three times; twice in one day a few weeks back and then once yesterday.  She lives in the same spot and I know it's the same fish because of a dark spot on the gill plate.

fishing user avatarGale1980 reply :

i caught a little maybe 13" bass on a brush hog. the fish picked it up and swam off quickly with the bait. which tells me it was competing for food. he had a large scar and a messed up mouth. my buddy then threw a crank in the same spot literally seconds after i released him and caught him again lol same scar and same messed up mouth...... judging by his mouth he has been caught several times...? maybe not the brightest crayon in the box :)

fishing user avataretommy28 reply :

well, I was fishing a shore tourny, during spawning season. I knew where a big fish was on a bed. I caught the buck, then the female(7.1#'s), and then caught the female again, The the buck agian. I was hoping she would bite agian cause all my other fish had left but she did not and 16.5 and 4 fish was enough to win and big fish. so yes I have twice in a day(really about 4 cast.).

Thats pretty cool how that fish could have survived that long with no fins.

I have caught the same catfish multiple times in one day and my buddy caught a bass that had just broke his line and he got his hook back.

fishing user avatarIDbasser reply :

I have, I took a jaw band off a fish, then in 10 minutes caught that fish again on a different lure, Had the marks from the jaw band freshly being taken off.
