i have been fishing about 3 days a week for 3 weeks and i have caught jack s--- in about 2 weeks. 3 weeks ago i knocked em dead with about 3 big bass and about 10 good sized bluegill. but in the past two weeks i have fished almost everywhere with everything. i have used senkos, nightcrawlers, jigs, spinnerbaits, buzzbaits, i have fished the bottom with worms and cut bait, i have fished at night, early in the moring, i have set out a few trotlines, i have trolled across the whole lake with spoons and crankbaits, i have bobber fished, and just about every other type of fishing. i fished for about 3 days straight and caught a 16' bass, a couple bluegill, and a sunburn. my friend caught 3 small bass with some lure called tha banjo minnow but thats all he caught. i was just wonderin if i was the only one who is having this much trouble or if its the weather or time of the year

What kind of lake is it?
Does it have any creeks that feed it?
Do you know the water temp?

I'm with you man! I can't catch jack-freakin-squat !! If I wasnt fishing an area that I know has good bass population (Mississippi River pool 8) I'd think there wasn't any bass around at all. I'm out 3 or 4 times per week from 3 hours to 10 hours per trip, and I dont think I've caught enough "keeper" bass total in the last 3 or 4 weeks to get on the leaderboard of a 1 day tournament. Thank god bowhunting is just around the corner, I'm getting very frustrated.

I usually fish Percy Priest outside of Nashville. Lately that has been almost bust with a few exceptions. This past weekend I ended up going to Smith Lake in Alabama just to remind myself that the monkey is on my back for a reason. Across the board, most of the guys I talk to are having a hard summer as well. What gives? I sure don't know, but if I find out, this forum will be the first to know.

With Southern Miss, Florida, Arkansis State, Georgia, State, Bama and South Carolina on tap it may be a long, long time before you catch anything.

Fishing is also tough in Virginia. The drought has pushed the bass into the cooler, more oxygenated water and the higher water temperatures have made them lethargic.
After we had some rain last week the bass were moving around and very active and hitting Senkos, finesse worms and crankbaits.
I have been catching a lot of dinks with a 1 or 2 pounder thrown in every now and then. Even the bream bite has slowed down.
So just wait for cooler weather and some rain and you will be back nailing them on each cast.
Now, as for the Vols........

I have been having trouble for the last month as well. Throughout late may and early June I was catching nice bass. Once the drought went into full swing, we havent had much rain. TVA is making power and the lake has been lowering.....
This has made for some tough tough fishing. Just finding them is hard enough, then making them bite is a whole other fight.
Going out tomorrow evening, hope to nail a few. The water surface temperature is in the low 80's here now, a few weeks back it was in the mid 90's.
Ill let you all know what happens tomorrow! Hopefully have some nice pics.

last time i went out fishing i talked to a fellow fisherman. he said he thinks the fish have shut down because op here we had about a week long stretch where it was 90 degrees everyday, then we had about a 2 week period of just rain, then it cooled off and was mid 60s and 70s for about a week, and now it is just warm

Man for me,this has been the worse year for bass fishing ive ever had. From the local lakes to dale hollow and cumberland. Fishing just sux right now. Even catfish arent biting well. So d**n hot and miserable.I guess the bass think so too.Its almost fall though brother and we have a massive cold front moving in next week w/rain. yay

Went to my favroite pond yesterday and to my surprise the bass were active.
I caught a beautiful two-pounder who almost swallowed by Senko. I had to go through the gills to pull the hook out and then cut the line. He was OK when I put him back into the water.
The bream were very active, too.
I could see the smaller bass swimming along the shoreline and near the top of the water. And they were actively feeding, too.
I had one 4-inch baby bass attack the six-inch Senko. When I pulled him up, before he threw the hook, the Senko was longer than him.
No idea why the change in behavior.
So go back out and try again. Maybe they feel the fall coming along and want to start feeding to fatten themselves for the winter.

I went with my neighbor yesterday to Lake Sinclair here in GA so he could do a little pre-fishing for a tourney he has there this weekend. We took his boat over to some weedbeds right after we launched and I caught 1 bass about 12" long on a POP-R. That was the only catch for the day in 7 hours of fishing. He had a couple of bumps on a jig, 1 hit on a buzzbait and I had 2 more hits on the POP-R. Nothing was working and we switched as often as we could to T-rigs, Carolina rigs, etc. Only thing we did not try was crankbaits. Water temp was @ 85 degress at 6:30 AM. Water was stained with @ 2' visibility.
My opinion for what it is worth is that it is just the wrong time of year to catch more than 1 or 2 at a time and may take you all day to catch those. Water temp is still too warm for the shallows, so just be patient, go out and cast just for the fun of it and when fall turns on, so will the bass. I'm no expert but this is just my opinion.

Well as we all know LMB are cold blooded hence their metabolism changes with the water temperature. The hotter it gets the more they need to eat, and vice versa the colder it gets the less they need to eat. Things have been foul up here in NH as well all summer. My advice would be try finding some current and or cooler/deeper water or try some night fishing, they may have turned on at night to escape the heat of the day. Good luck and tight lines.

It's been relatively slow here for the past couple of weeks as well. I attribute it to the high heat and lack of rain.
My lake does not lower in elevation a lot until the end of October, and we have the "fall gorge" to look forward to over the next couple of months as the bass begin to fatten up for the winter. Days of 50-75 largemouth per man are not uncommon. Blitzes 1/2 the size of a football field!
I've caught a handfull almost every time out, so I don't guess that's what I call "trouble"...plenty to keep me happy.
They are still out there, though, and they have to eat. I catch them on top in the mornings and 15-25 feet deep as the sun gets overhead. I HAVE noticed a lot of fish that are suspended, and those can be tough to nab. Maybe all of your lake's fish are suspending...work that spoon and drop-shot SLOWLY (or even slower!) and maybe they'll knock you off the seat!

Yes, troubles. Few weeks ago I caught 9 fairly decent ones in the pond in about 3.5 hours on a salt and pepper senko - they were hitting it like crazy! Few days later - nothing. This past weekend caught one, he went a little over three pounds, on an old crank, but that was after three days of a dink each day.
I guess I'll just have to keep trying........

Since about the last week in June I have had no luck on any type of plastic worm or senko. I am catching them on jigs, tubes, creature baits, and crankbaits, but when I throw a plastic worm its like somebody throws a switch and they stop biting.

my last time out on Wed, i only had about 45 minutes. I was catchin dinks almost every cast on a watermelon senko.....Once that little strip of shore i was fishin stopped hittin, I went to a watermelon power tube and took a 2 12 pounder first cast.....Weather wise is pretty similar today so im give it another go.

Its been tough all year down here also. I haven't been out lately cuz of the heat, but from what i've heard it hasn't picked up any. Cooler weather is coming slowly and hopefully that will turn them back on. I love fall fishing and will be heading out again soon.

I've had decent luck all sumer here in NH, but last night we went to my favorite spot, and we barely caught anything.
It had been cooling down up here in NH with 40 degree nights and 60-70 degree days, and I had seen big smallmouth bass busting through schools of bait fish in relatively shallow coves just the other night. Then, yesterday it hits 83 and hot, and I could not buy a bite from a big fish all night. My buddy finally managed to pull in a 2.5 pound smallie and a 1 pound smallie off trolling a white jitterbug that rattled (I had never seen one like that).
I only caught 2 dinks and a red breased sunfish..not very productive for my favorite pond I was bragging to my buddy about, but not skunked either. 2 weeks ago, it was non-stop action.

It's been tough.
A couple lakes the boat ramps are getting real skinny water under them and it's making launching and reloading a chore. Hopefully this weather pattern change with rain will get things turned around in the right direction.

Summertime in the south is tough fishing, but if you stick tight to cover and get your bait in the water very gently, you'll do ok.I Caught a nice 3 lb Bass late this morning when it was pretty hot, on a 4" watermelon power hawg.Compact creaturebaits or jig n' pigs are working pretty well for me lately, while nothing else seems to draw much interest.

it's been tough up here in ny also.you just gotta stick it put and find something that works.sometimes when it's slow you think you have to fish plastics slow.but the other night the ticket was deep diving cranks on rocks.nothing else would catch fish.finnese would not catch diddly squat.

I struggled through the whole month of August. Didn't hardly catch anything...
Headed out this morning at 4am for my first trip of September. Got up on the highway, and saw a bunch of lightning from the direction I was headed. Decided to call it a day and turned around and went back to bed...not worth it, since I was going solo. > Totally bummed. I do have two weeks off in a row starting next week tho....hmmm, what to do while out of work.... ;D

Yes in mid july I was having great success fishing at a local pond catching at least 10 nice fish a trip. The past couple of trips I have only been catching 5 fish at most (all small) >

when the going gets tough try a small pond.i just came back from one about 40 acres.landed a 3-4,another 3-4,a 4-2 and a 5-4 in 45 minutes on a spinnerbait.i just had enough time while waiting to pick up my daughter at a birthday party.

I caught one fish today in 5 hours....which also happens to be my first 5#'er . This was just before the sun started to set.The past 2 weeks the only thing i could catch was carps.The bluegills wouldn't leave my lures alone either...the bass were nowhere to be found till today.

Not to brag or anything, but since September 1st until today I have gone fishing six times and caught a total of 59 largemouth and 2 blue gill. All on artificial lures I might add. You know, not to brag or anything, ha!

Real bad August up here for me too. Sept. hasn't been that good either. Other guys up here have been making the same comments about poor fishing in Southern Ontario. We've had lots of wind, very dry and hot conditions, and water levels are at record lows.
