Back in 1994.I was looking to buy a new boat ,looking to upgrade from the john boat I fished out of for years. While looking through a classified magazine, I see a Nitro 17 FT glass boat W' 90 hp motor. This boat was located in beverly Mass.I called the owner and we talked and I drove up to see the boat. When I got there and met with the owner of the boat he was a nice guy real funny and had a good sense of humor and loved using the F -word.He invited me and my buddy into his home and we talked about fishing,he said he had fished a few times down the cape and would love to get down there and fish with me at some other ponds. He also told me how he had an idea and was trying to start a fishing show,His wife had just had their first kid and he owned or worked for his dad's landscape buisness.Needless to say I didn't buy his boat, but he talked to a salesman at a boat dealer and got me a good deal on my first Tracker.I have seen him at a few torney's years ago and at sportsman shows,I never talked to him about if he remembered when I almost bought his boat, and was at his house. So I would have to say when I first met him he was a nice guy, very hyper and worked up just like his show, maybe not that bad..This man was Charlie Moore...Must be nice when dreams come true...
Great story. He's the kind of guy I'd like to sit down and drink a couple of cold ones with.
Loud and from Boston, I would bet good money that Charlie can pound 'em.
it is funny to watch charlie moore lose on his own tv show. ;D
I've kinda lost my respect for Charlie and his show since they wouldn't put LBH on.
Sorry, but I'm just not a fan of Charlie Moore nor his TV show. Neither are my cup of tea.
Neat story, but I'm with Leo. Russ has even made contact with people close to him and still no cigar. For the sake of CAST for Kids, he could fish with LBH. Sorry, but I'm no fan of Charlie's, but then again, he's entitled to his choice. . . its his show.
well if the yanks are starting to hate him then that means i will have to like him more now ;D
His show was fun to watch, but as the others say, turning down a charitable event such as CAST For Kids and fishing with LBH? Doesn't really fly with me. I mean, I'm not too passionate one way or the other, but that's the way I stand.
I like the show, IMO that is what fishing should be about, having fun, and he seems like he has fun every time out in the water. I think I could hang with the man.
Sometimes the host of the show has very little to do with what happens in the shows, the producers may be the ones not wanting to have any charity involved with the show, I don't know for sure, but I would not hate the guy because he decides to fish with others and not me.
Great story about meeting him before he hit it big but as far as the other "likes and dislikes" I guess it's hard for me to base an opinion about the man from only one side of the story or the reasons. I like to get all the info I can before I make a desion on somebody or their reasons for doing what they do. I would love to fish with the man, I think he would be a riot but I dont think he would come to my neck of the woods to fish. I have thought about making a challange for Detroit River or St Clair River I think I could give him a run for his money then kick back with some cold ones. Anyway, thats my opinion on Charlie Moore. Keep those worms wet,
Snag
I enjoy his show, definately not from an educational standpoint. BUT HE CAN'T CATCH A SNOOK and he pronounces it SHNOOK which is pretty funny. And he just now started wearing Celtic's stuff because he's jumping on the bandwagon now that their team is stacked. But he is funny and I Tivo the show every week and enjoy watching it.
ya i wish he would do more teaching but he is really entertainging
I've always though of contacting him and asking him if he remembers the time we met.Plus,it would be a perfect time to ask him for a Cape Cod challenge.Charlie Moore if your out there,Game on........
charlie moores show is about as informative as watching the animal planet with no volume. with that said.....i love the guy. as much as i dont want to like his show sometimes i cant turn away. i think that is a really really cool story about you almost buying his boat. as a side note to the celtics bandwagon. i would like to inform you that up in the northeast there wasnt the bandwagon there is now for a simple reason. i ,like many other people i know, only had one way to make danny ainge and the celtics owner make the team better. dont buy retail products or tickets. i think after four years of watching aweful basketball on tv.....they got the point.

I agree. You cant assume that he is personally responsible for selecting who is on his show. I am sure that he gets plenty of challenges and that he is not personally going through them one by one. That being said, whoever it was that turned down Cast for Kids is definately a major %#$.
You got to meet Charlie Moore...that's pretty cool. Just to meet any celebrity is great, but a pro bass angler is even better, that's if you're into bass fishing of course. I enjoy the Charlie Moore show, but then again I enjoy any fishing show and don;t have too much bad to say about any of them. I can see why some people say they don'[t like him, since he's a mile-a-minute loud mouth who won't zip his lip for a second. To be honest, I know that he won the Classic back in the 90's, but IMHO he doesn't come off like that great a fisherman, more like a dumb jock with a fishing rod.
Anyone from New England who's seen his show on NESN can attest that the only "pattern" he know how to fish is banging the shoreline with 3 maybe four lures. In all the episodes I have even seen, and I've seen A LOT of them, he uses a Chart. Weed Wader Spinnerbait, a SLug Go, and a Wacky rigged "Spanky. All of which are Lunker CIty products. I have seen him use a clown color jerkbait a couple times, an inline spinner I think once, and a Lip less crank a couple times.
It doesn;t seem like he's that fishing educated since all he really does is troll up and down lake sorelines and cast and crank a spinnerbait. Plus, he hardly catches big bass, most are dinks, and when he does catch the big one, its liek a 2lber that I could pull out of a small pond.
In his defense though, I think the show is aimed at the Joe Six Pack who really has no fishing knowledge and is more for entertainment than education.
He seems like a coke head though, I mean the dude is as red as the skirt on a bleeding bait series spinnerbait, and he's always wired...maybe he just like his coffee strong though... :-/
seems like he gets a bad rap but i enjoy the show.
first off charlie moore never fished in the classic much less won it : secondly for someone who is trying to dismiss him as an angler ,you sure do know his routine down pat..... might wanna rethink this ridiculis post :QuoteYou got to meet Charlie Moore...that's pretty cool. I don't know about a coke head, but I am sure the producers edit a full day of fishing in to the most "exciting" 30 minutes for the show, and those happen to be the times when he is being the loudest, either catching fish or just being funny. They will not show the times when it is kind of boring if they want us to be watching the show. Just my $0.02
Two pages about Charlie , he must be doing something right or wrong!!!!!!!!!!

Charlie Moore Outdoors....
It was nice knowing you....
You can always be a landscaper or sell tackle...
I dont think his show should be taken seriously like a teaching show
Charlie is serious about being riduculous and funny while fishing ;D
I remember watching a few years back he is fishing a small texas pond and catches a 4 pounder then a 9 pounder and goes crazy.
right after that he calls some one at the classic saying KVD i'm coming for you, as a joke.
the reporter tells KVD that charlie moore just caught a 9 pounder and continues the joke saying how are his chances, KVD double takes then says "charlie moore is that guy even in the tournement he's a nut!" HILARIOUS
That might be what you were thinking about in terms of classic wins, because he said oh i basically just won the classic, I am on this podunk pond i dont even know where it is or how to get outta here
Great Stuff
Please....PLEASE.....
Let Charlie Moore Outdoors R.I.P. !!!!!!
AJR
first off I didn't dismiss him as an angler, and I'm sorry if I was mis informed, but I was almost Positive that on the lunker city web site they make a claim that The Fleck Weed Wader spinnerbait won him the classic, perhaps it was another bassmasters tournament.
I hardly think my post was ridiculous, since it is just my opinion which is no worse than yours.
That's my honest perception of him. I mean watch Charlie Moore Outdoors on NESN and you'll see that what I said is true and he only uses the same few lures to catch fish with. And the only pattern he fishes is beating the bank. I'm just saying 90% of the people on this forum could do the same thing and have their own TV show...I guess people really bite on his personality.
And I doubt he is a coke head, I'm just trying to illustrate how he acts, a mile a mintue, all flushed all the time...he should probably get that checked out
By that way...is that Charlie in your avatar...
Nooooo!!!!
The Fleck spinnerbait was used to win the classic in the 1970's, maybe back to back, by I don't remember who. Not Charlie.
ajr
Those cigars he smokes aren't packed with tobacco...............................
He smokes the best Avo's!!!!!
Then again, I believe his brother owns a cigar shop in Revere Beach, you know, where all the girls have big hair!!!!
;D ajr
Tried to watch the show again yesterday, sorry, can't do it. Irritating is the nicest thing I can say about it.
Now don't get me wrong. I think he knows how to fish and all, but I think he's the type of guy I would rather sit around a campfire and tell stories with rather than watch on TV all day. Saying that though, I have to respect what he has done with his career. It's not easy to go from working at a landscaping company to having your own tv show on a hit channel like ESPN. If his style and attitude gets fans to watch the show, he's going to make whomever is sponsoring him money, and that's all that matters. Keep freakin Charley!
I watched him for the first time this evening. The only reason I watched it was because 'Seabass' (Cam Neely) was on the show hammering the panfish. He kind of reminds me of a buddy growing up who I used to fish, except my buddy (11 at the time) would roll up paper bags and smoke them and took Ritalin!
Everybody who has their own syndicated show raise your hand.
QuoteEverybody who has their own syndicated show raise your hand.
This isn't the issue. Which has absolutely nothing to do with liking him or not. By your reasoning since none of us are professional actors, singers, or sports figures, we shouldn't have an opinion one way or the other about how good or bad they are.
I'm pretty sure that's not what I said.
However, I will respect your decision to interpret things how you wish.
He probably doesn't have a decision on charitys. He does donate a lot of money to childrens hospital
This threads getting old.He got the show from writing & hounding nesn from what i was told.He has a good humor and has fun.But being any kind of a good fisherman-. i dont know about that. its more like a comedy show.He is doing well with it,wish it was me.
