Xcaliber Is Bomber? 2025

fishing user avatardam0007 reply :

Stopped at DSG today to grab bunch of random stuff and they had Xcaliber and Matzuo lures 2 for $4. So grabbed 2, one is a fat free fingerling. Identical to my Bombers. Minus the Bomber logo on the other side. So I walk around the aisle and the Bomber one is $6.29 and not on sale. This is a crazy discovery.

I once saw a Rebel Pop-R in an Xcalibur box. I think they all belong to the same parent company.

I actually grabbed 2 of those as well. Lol never fished those before. 2 for $4 I might go back and stock up.
fishing user avatarJrob78 reply :

The baits you bought are Excalibur, not XCalibur, there is a difference.  They are all owned by the same parent company, Pradco.   I don't believe Matzuo is a Pradco company, they just make inexpensive baits.  I don't know what the difference is between Bomber and Excalibur.

fishing user avatarTorqueConverter reply :

They still make Excalibur baits?  I thought they were killed off and their designs sold as Bombers and Heddons?

fishing user avatardam0007 reply :

Bombers site leads to www.lurenet.com and it says Xcaliber there. But you're right ones I bought are Excalibur.

fishing user avatarJrob78 reply :

Dick's is the only place I've seen Excalibur baits and they are usually really cheap.

fishing user avatarWIGuide reply :

Excalibur baits were originally a series in the Bomber line called the Excalibur Series. They featured upgraded rotating treble hooks and premium finishes. They changed the packaging over the years to enhance branding and eventually ended up with the Excalibur packaging you bought them in.  Although I'm not sure why they phased these out, I believe it was mainly due to the fact that other bait companies were offering those things as standard. They are still making them exclusively for Dicks or they phased them out and Dicks bought out everything they had in stock and overstock from other companies which is possible. Either way they are a great deal and there's no reason not to buy them!

This is pretty much dead on.  Any remaining Excalibur stock out there is older, non-current items.

fishing user avatarMarty reply :

I don't think Excalibur baits were originally in the Bomber line, rather a new brand name among the many that Pradco owns. Apparently they wanted to at least partially discontinue Excalibur because they re-branded the Fat Free lures to Bomber and the Image series to Heddon.

As to that deal on lures that were two for $4, Pradco has often made lures specifically for this type of sale and sell them under the Excalibur name. I've seen them a number of times on a display at Dicks. Typically there is less information on the package and they come in colors that are not used on the brand name lures. I've bought a few of these and they're just as good as the regular stuff as far as I'm concerned.

fishing user avatardam0007 reply :

Picked up 6 more. 3 shads 3 fingerlings. My girl needed sneakers and had a $10 off points thing. Ended up paying $2 :)

They originated out of the Bomber line as seen on the package.

fishing user avatarTorqueConverter reply :

So it's an extinct Pradco premium bait line.  Some of the baits designs that were exclusive to Excalibur have be absorbed, through Pradco, into the Bomber and Headdon brands.

This begs the question, which came 1st the Excalibur Fat Free Shads or the Bomber Fat Free Shads.

Sort of, it was spawned out of the Pradco brands by Pradco. They took their popular baits and offered them in new pro picked colors with Excalibur hooks.

$_57.JPG

This would have been the beginning before it was marketed as the "Excalibur Series" like the other pictures I posted.

Then came the "Excalibur" line of baits that were marked just under the Excalibur name. (example below)

The Bomber Fat Free Shad came first and they used it in the Excalibur line because of it's popularity, just like the other baits in the line. They all existed on their own first with the possible exception of the Swimmin' Image and Spittin' Image. (They might have been too but I'm not sure on those) Pradco offered those already popular baits in premium colors and with the Excalibur hooks and that left you with the Excalibur line of baits.

fishing user avatarMCS reply :

Man I picked some up, the hologram bass color was killer until I lost it lol

fishing user avatarHooligan reply :

The Bomber Fat Free was first, then available in the Excalibur line, then made by Xcalibur for a short time, then back to Bomber.

Also- a point of reference here.  The Excalibur is SOLELY the treble hook.  Excalibur rotating trebles are where the whole thing comes from.  Now they put them on almost everything instead of just the special colors.  Originally, that was the differentiation.

fishing user avatarGrantman83 reply :

I always love reading threads like this. It's fun to just see the creation, absorption and evolution of a particular line of something. It's nuts to see how stuff changes over time lol

fishing user avatarzachb34 reply :

I tear them up early summer on a baby bass fat free fingerling

Why you cry ? Would you feel any better if I lied and told you that the madness has an end ?

Resistance is futile.

fishing user avatardaiwaguy reply :

Was at my local DSG and noticed the Excaliburs for 2.99. Then I looke down the isle and noticed the Xcaliburs for 2.99. All Xcaliburs were 2.99(XrK50, Xr25,Xr50,Xr75,Xcs100 and 200, poppers and EE4 Jerkbaits) in all of the real craw and real gill patterns plus their normal line up of colors. I asked the store Manager if it was correct and why they were so cheap. He had know answer for the price but said it was correct. Needless to say I spent almost 160 bucks in Dicks saturday and had to add a new piece of pegboard to the wall.First Tourney at LOZ on saturday and am glad to have a lot of new Jerkbait colors to try out.

fishing user avatariabass8 reply :

I found the same

fishing user avatardaiwaguy reply :

I wonder why they are so cheap. Do you think they are doing away with those colors or maybe they a blemishes(even though I didn's see any)?

fishing user avatarWIGuide reply :

I'm really wishing I had a DSG close to me! At that price, it might be worth it to hit up the one closes to me that's 2 and a half hours away. That'd suck to drive there and find out they don't have the same deal.

I would give them a call and see. It is worth a shot. I was at BPS about 15 minutes before I went and they were 7.49 a piece. The Manager made it sound like Dicks got a huge shipment of them with the same SKU on each lure and they were 2.99.

I might have to do that. I absolutely love the Xr and Xcs lines. I've got a bunch and picked up some more when TW had them for half price, but that's almost too cheap to pass up!
