I'm looking to use scent next year i will be bass fishing mainly kentucky lake. I have been doing some research on line and have come down to " Bio-edge" potion-this is a liquid and wand- this is like a gel stick. Whats yalls opinion on your best fish catching scent???
The one by Megastrike (I forget what it's called), but it works.
It's not very messy and stays on fairly long.
I can only compare it to the Yum attractant, but it is light years beyond that.
Megastrike, and not because the guy is advertising on here, the stuff works and is not messy.
X3 on the Megastrike. No spraying, no dunking, no mess. It stays on a long time. As far as my opinion on the use of scents, I think they help the fish hang on to the lure a little longer, giving me more time to set the hook.
I carry 2 or 3 different ones and don't use any of them. Never saw where they made a difference, but that's just my opinion.
I'm not a big fan of scent either. I have 1 or 2 bottles which haven't been opened in a couple of years. At the time I thought it would make a difference, but I never experienced "better" results.
MHO of course.
Personally I don't use any at all but many people do. What does that prove ? It's just an opinion of mine.
Mega strike.. I use it because i honestly believe it makes the the fish hold on longer when they are weary maybe due to fishing pressure or they are just flashing it or light bites
megastrike
Megastrike for sure, I also have the mustad activate but it doesn't seem to work as well. They do hold on longer though
I only use scent (JJ's magic) when I have to slow down the presentation on a tough day (ie. after a major cold front for instance). I think it makes that last little difference in turning on a fish that normally wouldn't bite.
There have been a few of these days recently and I didn't start catching fish until I added the scent to the mix.
I haven't used megastrike but it's the only other scent I may try in the future. Having said that, you are right on the money with the Bio-Edge wand. I got the night crawler scent. Works great. Stays on the lure for a long time. You won't get a drop on you, your carpet, or your clothes.
Stay away from anything that's not in a paste-like form that will stick. Don't have to be a physicist to figure this one out.
I use JJs and megastrike.
I don't use Megastrike as a scent at all. It's more of a lube to help a bait slide through grass and slop easier. It does seem to help fish hold on longer in certain situations. JJ's Magic on the other hand is definitely a scent. A very strong scent. Neither one of them are a magic fish catcher, but in certain situations they do help. Lure presentation is far more important.
I've tried different scents over the years and haven't been too impressed. I believe they may help in certain situations, but don't really think they're worth putting on baits.

That's my experience as well. When the bite is on, it's on but this can sometimes make finicky fish, in the boat fish
I do not use fish attractants, and do not see them in my future.
Like it or not, many soft-plastic lures are factory-impregnated with proprietary fish attractants.
Examples include Gambler (garlic-scent), Strike King (Coffee-scent), Chompers (garlic-scent),
Berkley (patented powerbait), Wave Worm (patented MOLOPO) and the list goes on.
There are also numerous unscented soft-plastic lures like the Kalin Grub, Zoom Fluke,
Culprit Original Worm and Yamamoto Senko.
Ironically, most of my favorite soft-plastic lures are made of unscented plastic 8-)

I also use JJ's Magic for jig trailers, pre-soaked at home
and re-bagged. You really don't need a "refresher", the
stuff lasts forever!
MegaStrike is something I always carry. This is a jell, much
like Vasoline in terms of texture. It goes on easy with no
mess or waste. I think this product makes bass hold your
bait longer. It also acts as a lubricant for both soft plastics
and hard baits.
8-)
I had a few different ones, but I pitched them all a few months back. I bought them a couple of years ago and they were just sitting in my tackle bag taking up space.
I use Megastrike probably about 80% of the time, however, and this may just be being in the right place at the right time with the right presentation, but my biggest top 5 bass have all come on Edge Hot Sauce Gel. Funny thing is though, when I use Edge the numbers go down, its like the smaller fish don't like it or something.
I roll with JJ's on all my bottom contact baits. IMO fish holds onto it a little longer, plus I like change of color on jig trailers and soft plastics.
I am always looking to improve my products-technology is always changing and so are Megastrikes products.
I really dont use many scents during the day but Im all about them at night
Like everyone else said, Megastike.
Even though it isn't an attractive, it does what you want it to do which is keep human smells off the bait and allows for baits to go though vegetation much easier.
Well, in spite of Bobby's annoying posts I have to admit I'm a big Megastrike fan and will not work a plastic without it. I have some Lunkersauce but haven't tried it yet.
(ok, ok, I'm kidding about Bobby's posts, but you gotta admit, his stalking of B___dozer is kinda creepy....)
:)
Like a couple of the other posts....I don't think it "attracts" them, but I feel the fish do hold onto the bait longer.
I don't use it all the time, but if I do, I use Smelly Jelly.
That last line almost sounds like the Dos Equis commercial ;D
;D
I have used scents on and off over the years, when a new one comes out I try it. But over the years, day in and day out it has not made a bit of difference to me. I don't waste fishing time to smear it on a lure. Others will swear they lmprove their catch.
Dozer and I are going small mouth fishing during Thanksgiving again this year. Its like Inspector Clouseau and Cato. I attack him every chance I get LOL. Ok back to the post-GUYS ya gotta remember that the baits are being worked at a pretty good pace-weather hopping, dragging etc. It takes a while for the bait to dissipate the aminos (depends on water temp) to saturate the area . It just doesn't work like a profuse bleeding of a scent or flavor. Believe me I have seen it where if you leave it in front of the bass, they will get the scent and eat the bait.Cmon how long does cast stay in one particular spot. Just do the test i have been saying for years. bend the hook so you cant hook the fish. You will feel the bass hit the bait start reeling and see how long he holds on to it. .getting the bass to hold the bait longer is better than attracting it to the bait by smell alone . Most strike come from a reaction standpoint .

Yep. I only carry Megastrike in my tackle box and to be honestly, I can't tell if it makes a difference or not. Maybe it makes fish hold on longer.
I only apply the scent when I need lube to get through cover better. I will sometimes apply it when fishing is slow just to boost confidences. As well as to mask unwanted odour from something I touched, but that rarely ever happens.
