Figured this would be fun. If you only had one model of squarebill or shallow runner, what would it be be?
Mine is Spro Fat John
My favorite is the Bomber Square A, cheap and effective. Or for a bigger bait with an awesome wobble the Bomber Balsa B.
Norman Fat Boy
Rapala Clack'n Crank
Was a Lucky Craft RC 1.5, but have since gone to the Xcalibur Xcs 100 (Rayburn Red is my fav color with Crawdad a close second)
Kvd 1.5. I have more confidence in this bait than any lure ever invented.
I have a box full of the kvds both 1.5 and 2.5. I love em.. I tried the little johns and fat johns and I was hooked. RW, my dad is a firm believer in the Normans too!
I'm also a fan of the KVD 3.5. I have a picture of the lure and a nice fish that pops up on the Home Page occasionally.
Lucky Craft RC1.5 in Blue/Chartruese. (Far Superior to the Lucky Strike verision...)
Got a Bandit 100 in the blue and chart good little bait that would be my sons favorite he uses it all the time....... how bout footloose or squarebill any body?
The Norman fat boy looks like something I might try in that jelly bean color, really like the looks of that color.
Another fan of the LC RC 1.5.... I am also anxious to try these guys out,but there is just to much hard water right now....Scare Brow 57 and Knuckle 60.
TW is having a sale on a couple versions of the silent fat RC if anyone is interested.....$7.99
I own numerous varieties of square bills, but for the way I generally fish them, which is amongst sunken bushes and shallow trees, the Timber Tiger DC8 has worked the best for me. A Texas Shad color for clearer water (white & silver, darkish back, with a distinct pink tinge on the sides) In very murky/muddy water and solid chartreuse with a purple back has worked the best for me.

Do you mean the 2.5?
I'm a big fan of the Luck-E Strike square bill. I also like all the KVD squares as well.

I plan on getting some of these to try out this year.
My wife thinks I have an addiction to crank baits. I can just open my tackle boxes and just stare at them. She says it's unhealthy. I also have Excalibur, Lucky Craft, Live Target, and various other brands I can't recall at the moment. The bait monkey hits me with his club when it comes to cranks! lol
Hard to beat my old bagley balsa B2W square bills.
If I can HAVE any squarebill it would be a LC 1.5. If I have to buy it, I like the H2O Xpress CRS.
Big O , brown craw.

Is the 3.5 a new bait we don't know about?
Caught a ton on the 1.5. Bandit and Excalibur S. B. baits are great too. I like the smaller size of the 1.5.
I like the 1.5 a lot, as many have already mentioned, but I also really like the Rapala DT Fat 3.
My absolute number one favorite squarebill is a LC RC 1.5 Copper Green Shad. Second are the KVD 1.5's in various colors.
Cant go wrong with a KVD 1.5 in chart. Blackback! Also the chart. Shad is great too!
RC 3.5 in any shade of white....Big fish Bait!
I like the Lucky Craft RC 1.5, Fat CB B.D.S. and the XCalibur XCS baits. If I had to choose just one single bait to use it would be a Luck Craft Fat CB B.D.S. 1 in Tomato Craw. I have caught more bass on that one single bait than I think any other.

think he meant RC 3.5?
KVD 1.5's for me. I also like Bandit cranks. Haven't fished their squarebills yet but the 200 series is a good shallow crank. Ive caught fish on all sorts of colors with both of these baits.

I'm pretty sure the pic he is talking about was caught with a kvd 2.5. Must have been a typo?
Idk but if there is a 3.5 I wanna try one

Lucky Craft makes a few baits in a 3.5 and a 4.5 size.

My pick would have to be Lucky Craft 1.5. Haven't tried one of the new ones but all my old RC's still work great!
I have always been a big fan of the Bomber baits. Love the selection of coffin bills. Xcalibur also makes a Fat Free square bill that's pretty sweet as well. Chartreuse/Blue back is my go to color in the Fat Free square bill, Chartreuse/Brown back for the coffin bill.
I like balsa the best. The old balsa b's, wec's , and TC cranks. There is a newer bait made around here called Basscraft that has been really good for me. They run perfect out of the package , have good hooks and Dwain Batey at the bait werks does some of the paint work . A really high quality square bill.
Used to use Bombers back in the day, then switched to a few KVDs. Recently caught a big sale at DSG, and picked up a huge assortment of Bomber Square As, and Shallow As. I personally think that the Bombers outperform the KVDs.
Lucky Craft 1.5 for numbers of quality fish. When the fishing is real tough I will through the 0.5 in the Ghost color. For big fish the Lucky Craft RC 3.5. - Lucky Craft is still the champ in my opinion as far as plastic squarebills go.
Others baits that I like include the KVD 1.5 & 2.5 , Ima Bill Lowen squarebill & River to Sea Creepin' squarebill. The Ima one has come through me on some tough bites when they wouldn't hit the other baits.
Ive been contemplating cutting the lip down on a wiggle wart and then bending it with heat. So affraid to ruin a good bait though. Maybe the next time I scratch off a $500 ticket I can give it a shot.
As of right now it would have to be LC RT 1.5. This being said if i was on a budget it would be xcalibur xcs100 although im really excited to try out my new 6th sense crush 50x
bomber square a or kvd 1.5
kvd 1.5. love the bluegill and sexy shad
Bomber model b balsa......fantastic wobble and awesome deflection. A little hard to find sometimes, but great lure!
Strike King KVD's, and Spro Little Johns.

The 6th sense bait seems to have quite a following based on the reviews it gets on Tackle Warehouse. I really like the looks of their Baby Bluegill pattern, going to try a couple next season after the ice melts away.
I'm glad some else finally said Spro little johns.
Great topic! We all get to talk about our favorite and see what else is out there which is always a bonus for the tackle junkies.
My favorite is the KVD squarebill 2.5 in bluegill. As a bank fisher when I really want to fish water away from the shore the KVD casts a mile and calls in some good size fish too!

I was thinking the same thing. I actually went and checked couldn't imagine one bigger than the 2.5!
Te KVD 2.5 blue gill is a big producer for me in the spring and late fall. You are right, its heavy enough to sling a mile. It's bigger profile makes it a great, big fish bait.

Teal, I've got a Spro Little John on the way which I can't wait to try it out. I got hooked on lipless cranks when I started throwing them and laid off the lipped cranks for awhile. The flat side on the Little John makes me think it's like a cross between a lipped and lipless crank resulting in a shallow crank with a tighter wobble.
Man you guys are helping me put together a nice little shopping list.
I love the way the fat john wobbles, I just hate that their color selection is limited

Buy a couple then send them off to be painted any way you wish.
If i was to go through all that then i would get some of my dads old bagley B's and send them off..lol the old ones were amazing.

I bought some a couple Bomber square a's last month but the bites pretty dead around here. Can't wait til it wams up some so I can try them out.
kvd 1.5 ,2.5 etc.

It's what we do
Tough question. I can't decide.
