Was only a matter of time before the paddletail... 2025

fishing user avatarCory N reply :

With every hand pourer/ e-tackle shop scrambling to unlock the secrets of the basstrix paddletail tube, it was only a matter of time until the giants caught on.

Although, I've never seen a baby bass look like that.

Edit: I would like to take this time to thank Zephyr from Michigan for reviewing this product.  He's still finding the green grass to slow roll this bait over......in December.....In Michigan.  Right?

fishing user avatarRaul reply :

It doesn 't have to look like anything a bass could eat.

fishing user avatarDan: reply :

You're right, the Baby Bass version is a strange color/pattern. It looks more like a baby smallmouth bass than a largemouth, even that's a stretch though.

fishing user avatarTin reply :

Ya, not a fan of the colors, nothing comes close to the BassTrix colors.

I didn't see where it says baby largemouth.  I haven't seen the baits in person yet but they look better than some of the other swimming tubes out there.

fishing user avatarCharger169 reply :

Don't trust BPS to have their cataloge right anyway. I have seen them have the wrong picture for the wrong color many many times.

That may be a good thing.

Bass eat thousands of species of fish, amphibians, crustaceans, insects etc, and each one had to be eaten for the first time.

Our lure doesn't have to look like anything, it only has to elicit a strike.

fishing user avatarguest reply :

I'm sure there will be many more to come.

How many brands of chatter bait are there now?

fishing user avatarsmallfry reply :

The paddle tube is a new and interesting direction in baits with some unique advantages, but it is far from perfect.  Here is to hoping at least one company ADVANCES on this idea rather than just imitating it....

Why does it have to look like a bass ? Bass eat all kinds of fish .

BTW, $8 for a six pack is cheap for this style of bait.

thats exactly what ive been quietly thinking to myself thru this entire paddle tail craze. its not like they are anything new...just a slightly different body shape. look at saltwater fisherman, they've been using swimshads for as long as ive been around. i just dont see what all the hype is about...besides the colors.

fishing user avatarGatorbassman reply :

Good grief!!!!. If the guy can't keep up with the demand for his product someone needs to.  It's simple economics. There's a high demand for a product that is in short supply. No matter what it is there will always be another company out there that will be glad to pick up the slack and copy the product.

As soon as he noticed the large increase in demand he should have contacted a big company and asked them to make the bait for him. With his specifications. That way he could benefit more from it. A patent would have been nice to.

fishing user avatarfourbizz reply :

i was referring to your statement that  inferred that all they need to do is "swim". so you're saying that we might as well all be using sassy shad out here and stop wasting 35 bucks on huddlestons?

:) :) :)

fishing user avatarDan: reply :

Can you patent something like a swimbait? I thought I had read somewhere that you can patent something that is supposed to mimic something natural. Not sure if that makes sense or if it's true but that's what I'd heard.

fishing user avatarGatorbassman reply :

Dan,

I've never heard that. But that doesn't mean it's not true. I have heard that you can't patent something that happens naturally.

fishing user avatarfourbizz reply :

well i guess if you don't know what a huddleston is then i won't worry about your swimbait opinion. LOL :)

on a side not though, you are my hero. My girlfriend used to use senkos all the time, everytime we fished. this was expensive for me. now she uses trick sticks all the time everytime and i save enough money to buy more $35 batis for myself ;D

fishing user avatarMattlures reply :

There is soooooo much ignorance on patents its frightning. WOW. First off I kringe every time I hear sombody say you cant patent it because its nature. WRONG!!!!!!!!!!! you can patent and or protect anything that is original. If not the intire thing then certain aspects of it.

A patent is worth the money if you have it and you KNOW your idea is critical to the design. Example. Larew patented salt in plastics. Very defendable and not easy to get around. A shape is easy to defeat. just change it a little. It all comes down to how hard it would be to get around the patent. Not how much it costs. I have an atorney that will sue if sombody infringes on something I have protected and it wont cost my anything out of pocket. He will get a large percentage but thats fine with me.

Also patents arent the only way to protect something. A 5% change is a bad idea if your thinking about coping a protected design. I would make it a leqast 20%.

As for sassy shad.....Basstrix little tube swimbaits have been around for about 2 years and have won 100x's more money that the sassy shad and its been around forever but of course they are better. All us trophy hunters must be stupid to spend $20-$100 on a bait that catches fish like this

I havent heard of Huddleston either. I think they make spinnerbaits?

fishing user avatarMattlures reply :

I dont need to know the judge. I dont copy!!!!!!

Also you dont need to have millions to beat a huge company. Castaic sued Storm over an infringment and won. Storm is owned by Rapala one of the largest companies in the industry.

Castaic is tiny comparred to them. Its not how much money you have to defend your patent ,its how strong your case is. My attorney would obviously not take a case he wasnt sure he was going to win.

As for the Hudd I agree, its not impessive at all. Niether are my baits. After all they are just rubber fish.

Funny thing is they sure seem to work REEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAL good at fooling huge bass. Lucky craft and Loomis arent impresive either. Heck Tritons and Rangers are no better than a row boat.  ;D ;D

Hey to each his own. swimbaits and their price tags arent for everybody. I totaly understand. It all comes down to why we fish. we all have our reasons.

As for the Basstrix, it saddens me that they have been ripped off so badley. I knew it was coming but It still sucks. Hey at least Bruce made a fortune before the thieves got here.

fishing user avatargrimlin reply :

This thread just made me decide i need a new swimbait setup after christmas... ;D

fishing user avatarMattlures reply :

I shouldnt have said he would be sure. It all depends on how strong the case is. If its an obvious onfringement and he feels he will win the case he will take them to court. Jason from Castaic also has a lawyer who works on a large percentage and no out of pocket. My point is the little guy can and does win in cort against the big guys. This is why most of the big companies make enough changes to not get sued.
