Sunglasses Question. 2024

fishing user avatarKabar reply :

I got 20$ Matzuo fishing sunglasses.....is there a really difference in ''what you see'' between sunglasses for 20$ and those expensive for 100-200$?

fishing user avatarjkarol24 reply :

best way to put it.

You'd be surprised how much lense color effects it too. I have three pairs of polarized oakley sunglasses. One lense black, one bronze and one gray. I can see into the water with the black and gray, but the bronze makes it look like the water isn't even there.

Which Oakley model do you have (those brown)?

fishing user avatarJunkYard814 reply :

I have 2 pairs of Oakley Gascans, 1 with Polarized Black Iridium, 1 with Bronze Polarized and I have the Batwolf with Grey Polarized.

fishing user avatarNitroZ9 reply :

I've been using high quality sunglasses for years. The higher quality the lenses, the more optically correct they are which helps eliminate eyestrain. Solar Bat is owned by an optometrist and makes high quality glasses. Their Mossback lens tint is great for fishing.

I work for an optomotrist and you are exactly right. The difference in the glasses are the lenses, the better quality the lens, the better optics you will get. A lot of the higher end glasses are digitally surfaced, like Wiley X, and the optics are mind blowing. The clarity you see is unmatched.

fishing user avatarclayton86 reply :

I have Oakley fives squared in the polarized black iridium and love them there's a huge difference from my old berkley glasses I had. I haven't tried them in shallow lakes and rivers back home yet but here in Kuwait fishing saltwater its like night and day like said before there's a huge difference and Oakley's are low on the totem pole when it comes to fishing glasses from what iv gathered.

fishing user avatarMrSwimJig reply :

Huge difference! The cheaper glasses just don't have the best polarized lenses and the better the polarized lense the better they are going to be.

I have prescription Oakley sunglasses with Oakley polarized lenses and I would never use anything else again, well worth the $$$$

fishing user avatarKabar reply :

Thank you.

The price range is 200$ , which would you recommended?

Never used sunglasses....to be honest I hate them, I like to have one just for fishing...so I will see more what is under the water. Will shop in BPS, or SAIL.

fishing user avatarJunkYard814 reply :

I've only had experience with Oakleys. I recommend Oakley Gascans with Bronze Polarized. Stylish and they work great. They go for about $170.

fishing user avatarQUAKEnSHAKE reply :

Here are a few Oakleys on sale.

I am shopping for new sunglasses now. Should I go with a natural gray or a bronze lens? Sunglasses will be Maui Jim's

I have used both Oakley and Costa in the last few years, and the difference over $20 shades is incredible. Oakleys are good, and much better than el cheapos, but Costa 580Gs really are significantly better than Oakleys. The 580 glass lenses are stunning. And, since they are glass, you don't have to worry about scratching quite as easily. I realize they're like $50 -$100 more than most Oakleys, but it really is worth it. Until Costa produces something better, I have promised myself they are all I'll use. Llifetime warranty. https://www.costadelmar.com/

If you're looking for some great glasses in the $120, check out the Guideline Elite glasses. They are glass lens shades made for fishing. I've never got to try them, but I've heard great things. http://guidelinedirect.com/?gclid=CK7aztSJwbACFYFo4AodExy_YA

Check out Solar Bat. They have been around a long time and are very reasonably priced. Their top of the line PNVXD lenses are $140 for the Mossback fishing tint. They also have patented gradient lenses which are not available anywhere else. They have either Mossback or Amber tint on the top half and gradually change to high contrast yellow at the bottom. If you come into shaded areas, you can tilt your head slightly and look out the bottom High Con Yellow. I wear the Amber gradients on flat light days and early in the mornings.

What about their warranty?

fishing user avatarNitroZ9 reply :

They have their No Nonsense Warranty. Go to www.solarbat.com and you can read the full warranty.

fishing user avatarhike4steel reply :

I use Maui Jim sports with the HCL bronze with excelent results. Had the grey lens prior and they did not cut throught the water as well. Also have a pair of wWeilyX. they perform well and are more durable the the Maui Jim but don't cut through the water as well. If you can afford the extra $$, costa 580G's are by most accounts better then the rest.

fishing user avatarjkarol24 reply :

I absolutely love my Costa 580G Man o' War shades. Green mirrored lenses is the way to go

fishing user avatarBassinLou reply :

Diddo for me on the Costa 580G Man o' war green mirrored lenses. Awesome!!! Warranty awesome too. This is my second pair. Costa replaced my first pair no questions asked when the nose guard for whatever reason became loose.

fishing user avatarKabar reply :

Thank you for all recommendations. Went today to BPS Vaughan ,ON....to buy those 580G....they had v.poor selection 580G was only one model in stock (Corbina, that I didnt like the frame)..and the price of 580G in BPS Canada is ridiculous ...299+13% HST (tax).....LOL!

after all I bought UnderArmour Igniter Brown .

Thank you.

I'm a sunglass freak: I have Vintage Bausch and Lomb Ray Bans, Costas, Maui Jims, Wileys, Persol. .

I like the Costa Blackfin with Green Mirror 580G (that's GLASS vs the P which is polycorbonate) BPS has them for list of $249. Ebay for $160. Best for freshwater fishing. Large on the face and keeps out side glare.

I have the Costa ballast with Bronze 580P lens wrap around style.....good all around for fishing AND driving. Very light on the face. . On the bay for $115.

I really like the ST (Super Thin) glass lens in the Maui Jims. I have the Shoreline with Bronze lens.....about as good as the Costas. Also have the Peahi which is the same size as the Costa Blackfin....pretty large....with Grey ST lens.....great for saltwater.....$160 on the Bay.

My Ray Bans are all Vintage Bausch and Lombs and are NOT Polarized but 100% UV protected. Wayfarer, Clubmaster, Wayfarer Max, are my personal favorites.

Also, a folding Steve McQueen PERSOL.......great trick glasses.....folds up small and look great.....not polarized.

I don't think you can get by with ONE pair of sunglasses......

Try driving in a pouring rain with a Bronze lens polarized......cuts right through it!

fishing user avatarRoryO reply :

Used to use cheap ones, then got a pair of Oakleys. Liked them but recently bought a pair of Costa Brine 580G with the green mirror lenses... Incredible difference. Got them brand new for cheap on ebay too. Just have to look to find the deals.

fishing user avatarM-D reply :

I recently tried on a pair of Solar Bats, the Sensor frame with Mossback lenses. Gotta get me a pair of those.

Just be careful not to get fakes. It happened to me, but thankfully I was able to return them. I ended up getting them straight from Costa's web site.

But anyway, hope you're happy with them. I know I love my 580G lenses.

How to find out that the one from ebay are fakes or not?

fishing user avatarSilas reply :

Kabar, check the ebayer's feedback. Usually if he is reputable , there is no problem.

As to the 580G lens in green mirror, I find they are the absolute BEST in freshwater situations.....used mine today!! The clarity and contrast are simply stunning!

I can assure you, this wont be your last pair. You NOW need one for INTENSE bright light......so the BLUE MIRROR LENS is best for that. The Costa Permit model is large and great for fishing, especially in salt water or open fresh water lakes. They are a tad larger than the Blackfins. Lots of guys on jet skis wear them around here.

http://www.ehow.com/how_7332910_spot-knock_off-costa-del-mar.html

I can't post some links, but do a quick Google search for "fake costa sunglasses", and you should get lots of info.

Generally speaking, authentic Costa 580G lenses will blow you away, while the knockoff's probably won't. I would just contact Costa and go discuss it with them, since your glasses should have serial numbers and warranty codes that should be authenticating.

And the above poster knows what he's talking about: you will soon NEED another pair.

fishing user avatarKabar reply :

Thank you.

Anyone bought from ''authenticglasses'' (Ebay store)?

They have a preety good feedback 23k transaction and 99.4 % positive.....but I 've seen a feew like '' ...glasses are fake'' ( but not the costa's)...and seller answer ''...no, glasses are 100% originals''

I'm a little worry.

fishing user avatarKabar reply :

Worry more now.

Asked seller about warranty. That's the response:

''Hi,

Thank you for your inquiry.

Warranties only come with items purchased at retail stores at retail prices. Warranties do not come with items purchased directly from the manufacturer at whole sale prices. We do have a 14 days return policy, giving you ample time to check the item and let us know if there are any problems.

If you have any other questions, or concerns please let us know so we can further assist you.''

Any experience with costa's warranties from ebay store?

Thank you.

fishing user avataratlbassin reply :

once you go 580G you cant go back.

and God said "let there be light". He then proceeded to put on his costas

I'll admit the black don't do that well, but the bronze work perfectly fine for me.
