Shallow Cranks 2025

fishing user avatarFishin49er reply :

I just recently started fishing crankbaits with any success and have really taken a liking to shallow, cover bumping cranking.  My question is what are some of yalls favorite crankbaits for bouncing off cover?  From what I've tested of them I really like the Bomber Square A's and the Norman Fat Boys.

fishing user avatarStringjam reply :

Catching Concepts PC2 and KC1

D-Bait standard

Lucky Craft RC 1.5

Bagley Killr B2 and 1,  and Balsa B3

Bomber Flat A (shallow)

Poe's RC3 (okay, not really a shallow crank....but it does it anyway)

Sisson Slim Willie

Zoom WEC Sweet Pea

Norman's Crappie Crankbait (really.....I'm not kidding  :) )

fishing user avatarben23 reply :

^^^^ What he said

Catching Concepts....check them out on ebay...the craftsmanship and paint jobs are tremendous.....the prices are also a shocker due to the fact that they are hand made/painted.

I'm sure Whittler makes a great shallow crankbait as well, I can't wait to try them out.!!!!

If you want the big-name brands (they lack the refinement and perfection of the handmades......) I would check out Lee Sisson......slim wille, and also the Skinny P Shallow

fishing user avatarCurado reply :

I also like the Norman Fat Boy. I use a Strike King 4S, which is like a Fat Boy, series 1, and 1XS.

fishing user avatarJT Bagwell reply :

Big Sissons and RC 1.5

fishing user avatarMALTESE FALCON reply :

My best producers are the Square A and Shallow Shad Rap SSR05, SSR07

Falcon

fishing user avatarLONGEARS reply :

I read the choices above and find it interesting how relative the term shallow can be.I consider Mann's minus 1 a favorite shallow crank well as the bandit lures.

You may want to try this for fun when you are fishing shallow.Cast the lure and let it sit on a semi-tight line, wait, twitch, reel it down and in then let float up.Repeat.It's kind of a cross between topwater and shallow cranking and can get some serious results.Oh yeah it's fun too :)

Those are two of my favorites. My PB was caught on a Norman Fat Boy (bluegill pattern). Two others you might want to pick up are the Bagley BII and Mann's -1. I bought the Lucky Craft Rick Clunn 2.5 & 3.5, but have not fished them yet. I'm pretty sure these are going to be favorites, too.

fishing user avatarCFFF 1.5 reply :

I consider <5' shallow and I love the mann's minus 4 crankbait series they catch a ton of fish down here in FL

fishing user avatarDeuceu72 reply :

I cant believe no one mentioned bandit cranks. The 100 and 200 series are my favorites!

fishing user avatarbassmaster8100 reply :

Manns -1 and -4 have produce alot of fish for me.

fishing user avatarGobbleDog reply :

I used this bait in West Toho last Sunday - except not in this hideous color (I was throwing black on silver).  It was 7 feet deep with hydrilla grass on the bottom and I could feel the grass just barely tipping the bait.

It worked great and I'm going to do it again this Sunday in the tourney. It takes a bunch of casts, but eventually the bass hit. Sweeping the rod and then pausing it for a half second.

This time of year, at least where I live, the ice has just melted and this little flatside handmade will be tied on untill the water temp gets to the high 40's.

fishing user avatarflippin4it. reply :

I had my best day of fishing last year using a LC Combat SSR Chart w/Blue back. This crank has the most action of any small crank that I have used and it comes over cover great. I was running it over and around weed beds. The only downfall is the small hooks. Use a soft crankbait rod and mono, you'll need it to land anything of size. I think it came out to 13 keepers in 3 hours, not really sure. That day was a blurr, I was having a blast.

fishing user avatarAnglin reply :

im having a heck of alot of luck on bandit 100's and 200's as well as 1/8 oz speed traps.

fishing user avatarMunkin reply :

Bandit 100 and the LC RC 1.5 work the best for me.

Allen

fishing user avatarBassinSoldier reply :

The RC 1.5 is my favorite but my Bagley's Honey B is catching up quick.  Also love the square A's from bomber.  IMO they are a steal at $1.99 and I have caught boat loads of fish on them.

fishing user avatarTravisLovett reply :

Ive used the LC RC 1.5 and they have been doing great.  They bounce off timber well too and I dont have to worry about changing the hooks.

fishing user avatarlmb7 reply :

I love it that my $4 Bandit 100 and Bandit Footloose outproduce my $15 LC cranks. I don't know what it is about those little bandits, but they killed for me last year, in every type of water I fished.

fishing user avatarYakAttack reply :

Cotton Cordell Big O's are my favorite!!!!

Daiwa DT4's started using these last year and so far I am very impressed with these too.

Bandit 200

Bandit Footloose

Manns -1

I havent delved into the world of high dollar cranks, for the simple reason of fishing shallow rocky rivers, I hate to donate 15+ dollar lures to the river gods  ;D ;D

fishing user avatarGrey Wolf reply :

I've used the Bandit 100 series a lot of the time.

fishing user avatar.ghoti. reply :

#1 choice for me, Shallow Shad Rap

Second choices, Minus-1 and Bandit 100

Just started at aend of last year with the Rapala DT-4's. They may end up being at the top of the list.

Cheers,

GK

fishing user avatarPond-Pro reply :

fishing user avatarFishTank reply :
