Senko worms - best colors? 2025

fishing user avatarFishGeek reply :

The water is "hard" this time of year in New Hampshire. So, I am spending time stocking up the tackle box.  In your opinion, what are best colors (and corresponding conditions) of senko worms?

Like most lures, they come in dizzying array of colors.  Sometimes I wonder if those colors catch more fisherman than fish.  ;D  Thanks!

fishing user avatarLightninrod reply :

I've caught literally hundreds of Bass on their #222 color,  It works all year long and in any water clarity.

thanks for the link, tin2win... I searched before I posted, but did not find that one (newbie mistake, sorry).

Thanks, Lightninrod. The 222 color is on my list.  Beautiful fish... nice pics!

fishing user avatarTin reply :

If you fish Winnie a lot, can't beat Watermelon with gold and black flake ;)

fishing user avatarBassnajr reply :

Hey all....

I just got into senkos this past late summer-fall so i don't have alot of experience using them. Before that, worms only.  LBH had given me this advice which I found helpful. Mimic the color of what fish eat. Darks, green, browns, blacks. I've never seen a yellow bait fish in fresh water (lol), but you never know. I'm gonna add a question...wacky rig, T-rig, what rig works best with senko's for you?

Alan

fishing user avatarFishGeek reply :

Just read that other thread.  According to the responses, it looks like every color under the sun works.  I was hoping for easy answer ;)

Maybe my question should have been "under what conditions should you use which colors?"  Am I correct in thinking it is better to use light/clear colors in clear water and darker colors with low visibility?

Thanks for the tip on Winni -- yes, I fish there a lot.  Great lake!

Never seen a YELLOW Perch in RI? lol Just messin with ya. I took a 4 pound largie out of Wordens with a 10 yellow perch sticking out of its throat. Wacky rig around docks and limited cover, texas in heavy  ;)

fishing user avatarBassnajr reply :

You're right tin...brain cramp!!!!

I just pictured, like a banana colored senko made me chuckle ;D

like that dancing banana!!!

Alan

fishing user avatarTin reply :

But if fish are feeding on baitfish a senko isn't your best option. You can cover a lot more water and imitate baitfish better with cranks, spinnerbaits, flukes, or even swimbaits imo.

fishing user avatar.dsaavedra. reply :

smoke, natural shad, junebug.

fishing user avatarBassnajr reply :

No,

I'm good with cranks, spinnerbaits, jerk baits and the like. This year you can show me the way to throw a jig. I hear you're not bad at that!!!! (lol).

Suggest familarizing yourself with the Senko FAQ's at the top of this forum.  ;)

fishing user avatarCory N reply :

Fishgeek,

Everyone certainly has their own special go to senko color and their own special opinion, here comes mine.

1. If you're looking for new colors to try, pay attention to the replies from people from your region or that you think might be fishing the same water clarity and forage for you area. You're from NH, pay attention to other NE'rs...the fish are going to be living in similar habitats.

2. It is really about the action or wiggle of this bait first, if the fish are interested...great.

2a. Kind of like girls at the bar. If they're into you, they're into you. It doesn't much matter if you have blue jeans or khakis on. A fresh pair of Tigers or chuck t originals. (I mean we all have our lucky shirt, you know?) It helps if you have your shirt on straight, but they've made up their mind based on something. And it's probably not your smoke w/black,blue, and gold flake shirt.

3. Again, assuming that you are just getting going with the senko. Learn how to fish the bait and gain confidence with it. Then buy the green and purple swirl with emerald and red flakes.

4. Don't limit yourself as an angler, learn other baits and techniques.

5. A lot of colors are better at catching fisherman than fish. It's awesome.

6. Familiarize yourself with the Search feature, the FAQs, and all the awesome articles. There are answers to questions you didn't know you had in there.

Happy Holidays,

Cory

fishing user avatarFishGeek reply :

Cory - Thanks for your advice. It makes sense that confidence and presentation is more important than color (just like that girls at the bar, but I never had much luck there ha ha ;D).

And Glenn thanks for the pointer to the Senko FAQ page.  I don't know how I missed that.  That's an amazing piece of research.  Great stuff!

Your help is very much appreciated.

I do not think that there is lake anywhere that Green Pumpkin will not catch fish.  My absolute best color everywhere I go.

fishing user avatarFishTank reply :

Pretty much any dark color will do but my personal favorite is Watermelon/Greenpumpkin Laminate.

Senkos are awesome but as others have suggested check out the sticky at the top of the page. I tend to go back and read it from time to time. Lots of good info.

I'm a NY Reservoir fisherman and when I opt to fish either a 4 or 5 inch Stickbait it's either Green Pumpkin or Watermelon with black flake.

Yup, in the northeast, I think those are the only two colors you need.
