Question About Spro Frogs Vs Live Target Frog 2025

fishing user avatarJ.C reply :

Now I know there are TONS of these questions out there and I think I have about read them all, but all the topics are old and before I decide on what frogs I want to get for the upcoming season I want your guys input. So I narrowed it down to 2 brands I liked the most which is Spro and Live Target. Which of these 2 do you guys like the best both normal and popping style?

I would use Booya but lost 3 last year from the rings tearing out from the nose... weird right?

fishing user avataraustinF reply :

Popping one is my favorite.

You can buy one of each and then decide for yourself.

fishing user avatarPhil B reply :

My personal favorite is the H2o brand from Academy sports. I bought 2 Freddy b frogs and I'm gonna try them. I fish extremely heavy vegetation and the Academy frogs hold up very well.

fishing user avatarBluebasser86 reply :

I prefer the Booyah popping pad crasher over the rest but the Spro Bronzeye popper is really good too. No Livetarget baits for me.

fishing user avatardrscholl14 reply :

I really like the Spro Bronzeye line.  Both regular and popping.  Have never had one rip or have the hooks come out.  I pretty much use Strike King lures and the Spro frog out fishes the SK Sexy Frogs and they walk better.  I've never used Live Target frogs but my fishing partner loves them.  I have a hard time spending an extra couple $$ on a paint job on the top of a topwater bait......

Thanks a lot! I will have to pick up a couple Spro frogs. I really liked my Booyah frogs too but couldn't figure out why the nose kept ripping out on casts, I tried the super glue trick with no luck so I decided it was time to try something new this year. Out of curiosity why don't you like Live target? I have never owned one.

fishing user avatarRichF reply :

Spros are my favorite but Koppers are nice too.  They're much softer than Spros but that does make them a little less durable.

fishing user avatarScarborough817 reply :

prefer spro to live target both are nice but spros are more durable and generally do better for me because of the more narrow design

I've never had the issue with the Booyah frogs tearing, but my buddy has torn several (after catching several fish on them), but the price is right that they're still cheaper per fish than a bag of Senkos.

I've owned several Livetarget baits. They always look great but production has been lackluster at best. I've written them off more or less as baits that catch fishermen but not fish.

Spro it is! I will make sure to stay away from the Live Targets. I asked because Tackle Wearhouse is running a deal where if you buy 1 live target popping frog you get a free hollow bluegill. I guess I almost got sucked into the trap Lol! Thanks for the help.

fishing user avatarBassWhole! reply :

Not a fan of the Spro, and the live target is just so, so for me. Snakeheads test a frog's durability and hookup ratio the way a bass can't, and I like the Booyah, SK, and Trophy Frog for getting me bit and hooking them, but the latter really gets beat up.

fishing user avatarFinnz922 reply :

Spros are awesome! No issues hooking up, keeping them buttoned, very durable.  50+ fish durable. Multiple times.

That will keep me away from Live Target too. Lol

Fool me once shame on you fool me twice shame on me. I’m done with live target!

fishing user avatarBrett's_daddy reply :

I've heard that the Snag Proof Phat Frogs are good. Say it's almost impossible for them to take on water because of their dual chamber design.

Those frogs walk incredibly well but hookups are tougher because they're so flat (small hook gap).  You can try and bend the hooks out a little but even then it's iffy.  Mine get very little use.

fishing user avatarBrett's_daddy reply :

Terminator frogs are on sale at Bass Pro for like $7. I've heard they are good too!

fishing user avatardrew4779 reply :

I own and like them both.  No issues with either.  Both have caught plenty of fish for me.  The only live target product I'll buy is the frog.

fishing user avatariceintheveins reply :

The Live Target is much better. It keeps water out much better than the Spro. It also walks well and has a good hookup rate.

fishing user avatarCTBassin860 reply :

Spro frogs aren't soft enough. I never get bit using Spro. Never had an issue with any Booyah frog. Live Targets are expensive, but look sweet in the water. This year i'm trying the Scum Trophy frog. I wouldn't personally waste my money on a Spro or a Live Target. I'd stick with the Pad Crasher for both regular and popping.

Wow! Those are some awesome looking frogs! Might have to look into them as well. Thanks for sharing!

fishing user avatarBrown Town reply :

The River2Sea Bully Wa has increased my hookup ratio tenfold since I changed to throwing that over the Spro Bronzeye. I cut my teeth in frog fishing with Spro and got a lot of blowups but did not hook up very much. Switched to the River2Sea and now its weird if I miss a fish on one.

I never had great success with hollow body frogs, tried many of them, Spro, Livetarget, Booyah, and others.

Finally cut the legs off of my Spro and added a Sprinker Frog Tail with a 3 way VMC swivel and started killing it. So, that's my favorite topwater for weeds now. Actually gave that one to a friend.

I tried the same thing but cut the tail off a swimbait but the action wasn't great or what I hoped for. Going to try it with the Sprinker tail

I grew up on the white scum frog with red and white skirt. Loved them but am using SPROs now

I had had luck with the Gambler Big EZ tail but better luck with an actual Teckel Sprinker Tail.

fishing user avatarboudroux reply :

I frog fish a lot where I'm at.  Tonight I just tried my first SPRO bronzeye and am ready to throw it in the trash.  I generally use live target hollow body frogs and they work well for me.  I've tried Matzou, Bass Pro house brand and a couple others and have never had a frog as tough to work over laid down reeds as this SPRO.  The eye catches everything when trying to pull it over.  At times it felt like there was a darn treble hook on the nose it hung up so bad.  Also, when it lands it slaps down like a kid doing a cannon ball from the high dive.

I've always heard such great things about this frog and am scratching my head on how poorly it just performed.  Had 7-8 blowups and zero hookups.  From personal experience on my other frogs I guarantee I would have gotten at least a few of those in the boat.
