As the title states - are there any new top water baits you are anxious to try this Spring or have just started using for the first time as the water warms up ? For me , the Storm Arashi Cover Pop and the WP110. ... Your thoughts ?
Sprinker Frog-type bait. I tried to make one and it worked a little while before the tail wouldn't stay on.

I made a Homemade one using Spro and Booyah Pad Crasher with a 3 way swivel and an actual Sprinker Teckel Frog replacement tail which uses a CPS Twistlock Spring. It worked awesome.
I can't wait to try the new Booyah Toad Runner this year to replace my homemade Sprinker frog and hopefully the Whopper Ploppers will keep killin' it.
I'm going to give a double prop-bait a try. I haven't used on in over a decade. Wounded Zara Spook and Cordell Boy Howdy. I still have an old WoodChopper that I may break out.
The Grassburner XL! I just ordered one and can't wait to try it out.
I'm anxious to try the Jackall Binsky Popper.

That lure has a little bit of everything, doesn't it.
I picked up a Stutterstep over the winter I will probably throw the next time I go out.
Strike King Poppin Perch. Thought it looked ridiculous when I first saw it but then saw how the pros were fishing it and how well it was working I picked one up and can't wait to use it.
These were designed for the salt, but I'm super pumped to fish here.

It’s a cool bait. Fouls easily though. Any bit of grass or tiny leaf will mess it up. And you need to start reeling the second it hits the water, or it’ll sink.
I already tried a few this year and have a few more, mostly these lures came from Asia side.
The one that really catch my eyes is BPS copied from whopper plopper but both head and tail spin.
Nope, sticking with what caught them last year, and the year before, and the year before, and the year before...
I'm late to the Whopper Plopper party because I waited for the prices to cool a little. Picked up a batch to use this year and see if the hype is true.
I ordered the Megabass Grand Siglett this winter. I had previous luck with the Duo Realis Shinmushi but had durability issues. The holding screws for the body literally worked themselves out and the dang thing came apart mid-cast. But looking at the Siglett, it looks more durable. I only question its hook, I may replace it with a treble.
Otherwise, I bought a Teckel Sprinker early spring this year and I'm anxious to use it. But I like the looks (and reviews) of the Booyah Toad Runner, so I may end up with one of those too. I just don't know how well I'll like it's nearly 1oz weight. Any thoughts on that?

It's true. They get crushed.

Except for a hook????

For me the Whopper Plopper (110 size) is hit and miss. On some lagoons they just crush it on almost every cast. On other lagoons I can throw it all day long and not get one strike. This even happens with lagoons that are in the same neighborhood and interconnected via the stormwater system.
On some lagoons it gets hit on the pop and stop and others on a straight retrieve.
What I'm getting at is that if you throw the Whopper Plopper somewhere and it's a complete bust don't give up on it and bury it in your tackle box. Try it at every location you fish and find out where it works.

This is the New XL version and it floats!
The Jackall Riser Bait is eyeing me from my TW wish list. I think that could be a real smallie killer in the late summer/early fall...
After having some moderate success with prop baits last season I am excited to try my new sprinker frog and whopper ploppers. I know the WP's will work because I watched a guy fishing right behind me catching fish I was missing.. and I like the sprinker for the weedless nature when I am in pads and grass.. at least that is my hope for this season.
I also have the new River2sea Lane Changer's dual prop baits that look awesome and I can't wait to get on the water and some of the new Booyah Toadrunner's too (I tried the Sprinker frogs and wasn't impressed, these Booyah's look to be built better).
Whopper ploppers. Just got a few from Academy to try out this year. 90-110 sizes.
I got a Booyah Toadrunner and 2 Stanford Baits Boom Boom frogs that I can't wait to try.

Well, it's missing a couple things. Just can't put my finger on it.

I'd stay away from the Sprinker Teckel Frog. I got a few blow ups and only got a pike to eat it. Caught a lot more on the homemade one.
If you want to try a Weedless Whopper Plopper you might want to make your own or try the new Booyah Toadrunner.

It could be it just wasn't the day for a WP110 (or perhaps even a top water bait at all ?) ... So many cool lures at all depths to try and so little time ????.
I received a whopper plopper 110 as a gift and don’t even have a rod to throw it on, so maybe I can switch it out for a 90. Still excited to throw it!
The shower blows I bought last year that I haven't had a chance to use.

Used the 90 for the first time today and it is the best top water I’ve ever used. I caught about a dozen bass in around two hours time. I did have some misses and issues when I ran it threw weeds. I’m a believer now.

That’s good to know! Opener is this Saturday so I’m pretty excited, first baitcaster as well! I’ll probably try tossing the 110 on my Tournament ZX just to see how it goes, but probably should try and get a 90 instead

I bought the 90 as I use lighter line and rods with my bait caster. I also used it on a small pond in a training area on a military installation. Let me know how the 110 performs and what body of water you used it on. Nothing like seeing them hit a top water lure.

Did you use a straight retrieve on the 90 ?

They're a really nice bait. Wish I would have tried one a lot sooner.

All my hits came off a straight retrieve. No luck when I stopped it or walked the dog.
I don’t have the highest hopes for it but grabbed a couple dragonfly’s from lunkerhunt to give them a shot this year. Bass love the real dragonflies on my lake so hoping I can get lucky with them
I need to throw a buzzbait more. Bought a few cavitron this winter that I'm going to try.
On a whim the other evening, around 7pm, I decided
a buzzbait was what I needed to throw. Have thrown
it before and caught nothing, so it has sat in my box
for well over a year, unused, at least I think it's been
that long.
So I threw it on a spinning setup Thursday at 7. Good
time, evening. First hit was a hit and miss, but dang
it felt good to see a topwater strike.
Decided to troll it. Then stopped and as I was reeling
it in BANG! 3 pounds exactly on my Boga Grip!!
Exhilarating! The moral of the story for me is, buzzbaits
are good and buzzbaits will be in my arsenal this year.

Yeah I have had brand new cavitrons sitting in the box waiting to be used. they are getting rigged for sure this year.
Ever green one bug popper will be added this year. From what I've read it's a cross be tween a Rico and a splash it so should mix in nice and have a little more subtle plunk with little more splash to work with
There's too many complicated topwaters out there today. I've simplified my topwater approach.
Cavitron
Frog
If they don't eat those, they're probably not eating topwater. But that doesn't mean that I won't bust out a Skitter Pop or a Spook style bait before giving up.
I bought the Storm Cover Pop last fall. It's a decent bait but certainly not going to replace my other go to poppers.

I've had bluegill smack the 110 on the initial plop. It's weird.
I'm going to stick to my old confidence baits. Pop-r, jitterbug, props, and frogs.

I once caught an 7" pumpkinseed on a 3" swimbait. My guess is that the panfish was ticked off and was trying to nip the tail of the swimbait and got hooked. There's no way a little panfish with that tiny mouth could be trying to eat a bait that size.
Whopper Flopper.
I'll be using my typical TW baits: a one eyed Sammy 115 in the color "all scraped off," and a PopMax in "hook rash python."
Aside from frogs and matted vegetation areas, I don't think I caught a single top-water fish all of last year. Not for lack of trying. But I have started to get it in my head that fish in my waters don't want to come up for much; especially if it isn't within a half hour of sunrise or sunset...I pretty much stopped throwing anything on top. But, I'm inspired by this thread and will commit to some buzzing and plopping next couple times out.

I'd say it's certain times of the year but I've caught topwater bass most of the year during daytime hours on almost every lake I've ever fished. Certain lakes were definitely better than others though.
I will say if a lake has an aggressive topwater bite, it will have it over a lot of the lake, I've found.
Not my intended species, but I'm liking the Jackal Binksy so far. Walks really easy, sputters at low speeds, and can pop very subtly.
the Lane changer 150 is like a finesse topwater, caught a couple smallmouth on it and lost a nice pike but I'm not crazy about it, doesn't create enough disturbance, in real shallow calm water though it works well.
Anyone use the big mistake and top notch yet?
I bought the turtle with props but haven't caught anything with it yet. I just wanted a turtle lure I think lol
I have been trying old classic lures lately (Beetle Spin, Buzz Plug) so I purchased a Rebel Frog-R
I will be trying it for the first time this weekend.
I got a Depps Buzzjet too. The thing looks sweet but haven't had a chance to try it out yet.
OK so this is my new favorite topwater: Evergreen OB Magic Gill, the colors on it are even more impressive in real life.
Got my new PB within minutes of throwing it.
