What is the largest private bait collection you have ever seen? Besides collecting insects (of which there are THOUSANDS and thousands of species), one could almost never run out of new lures to find. The sheer number of Musky baits alone is mind boggling.
That Pop-X collection that @rippin-lips posted in the bait monkey page is pretty crazy.
'Cause I've been thinkin' of starting just a Rat-l-trap collection (new and old). That alone would probably keep me busy (and broke).
I have a pretty decent collection of rapalas. Probably around 125. No where near the world's largest. Ha-ha. So many. Original floaters. Countdowns. Husky jerks , xraps, dt series, fat rap, jointed minnow and shad rap. Shad rap, scatter rap series. Some that are discontinued .my favorite being the "hot perch" jointed shad rap. I caught bass on it when I first bought it. I don't use it anymore tho. Mainly because the regular perch version works just as well if not better. I've had it for probably 8 years.
Here's most of em.
I have over 1000 jigs

Ha-ha ! Wow. How many have hit the water ? And you use on a regular basis ?
Imagine 20 something boxes like these bluegill swim jigs broken out by color, head style, and skirt material.

I would venture to guess a few hundred have been used. My color selection and preference is a bit more complicated than others but that is another story. It really boils down to the lake, water clarity, and size of fish and even the time of year.
There is a fellow from the Chicago area named Dan Basore who has one of the worlds largest fishing lure collections. It requires a warehouse to store it all. Dan has a large collection of antique lures some of which date back several hundred years. He often has a large display of the antique lures at many of the large outdoor shows every year. Back in the day, Dan was one of the original fishermen on the BassMaster Trail having been invited to join by Ray Scott himself.

Dan is an old Indy area native who grew up just a couple miles from me. Used to read about him in the local paper all the time. He helped form one of the earliest bass clubs in the area, the Indianapolis Bassmasters.
Another really large private collection belongs to a man named Karl White. His personal collection is valued around $4 million and includes some old boats in addition to old lures. Wife and I just got back from a visit to the Branson area where he recently opened up a museum in order to showcase his collection and make it available to the public (for a fee). It's called the "History of Fishing Museum" and you can Google up a lot of info on it easily. Worth visiting if you're ever in the area.

Reading about him now. Quite a collection!

Second that
But it only takes one lure to catch a bass. The plastic worm.
@Yeajray231 - hot perch was an awesome color! It's one of my favorite discontinued colors and reminds me of Berkely discontinuing Christmas Cider Power Worms. I caught a lot of 3-6lb fish in tea stained water on those worms...,

Yeah, it couldn't be ALL of them as there are hundreds, if not thousands, of patterns. He must have mowed a LOT of lawns! Where did you find this pic?

Just googled it.
Here's another, looks like this one was taken a couple years earlier though

I suspect this collection is daddy's (or grandpa's) collection-like when you let your child reel in your fish.

Nice starter pack !
@Raul let's see yours.
I recently bought a reel off of craigslist, always sketched out about this. Anyways, went out to his 2 car garage and he had literally 300 rod and reel combos. There were 4 or 5 of the giant craftsman toolboxes taller than me, full of lures, not to mention the 30+ tackle boxes he had. It was more than half of the tackle shops Ive ever been into. Must be nice to be rich and retired.

got a lot more in t-boxes.
I swear it must be in my buddy's garage! Haha. I would seriously like to see some of these "warehouse" collections though.
Ha Ha when I saw this topic, I had to check it out. I was hoping Raul would post some pics. He is one of my heroes....
Go to a fishing lure collectors convention it's amazing some of the displays they have collected.
For example there will a Creek Chub lure display with every lure and color. Everyone is looking for deals and trades for lures to buy from each other and whomever walks in with a collectible lure.
Tom
(To paraphrase Steven Wright) I have the world's largest lure collection, which I keep scattered in underwater brushpiles throughout the lakes & rivers of America...
