Jigs... I need a shopping list 2025

fishing user avatarChughes37 reply :

Still in my first year of fishing and I'm ready to start jig fishing, my set up is a shimano Curado 200k with a st croix bass x MH rod. All I need now is jigs and trailers. I've watched a handful of videos of the different applications, types of jigs etc. Now I just have to go make my purchase. I need a list of your favorite jigs and trailers

fishing user avatarnpl_texas reply :

I like Siebert jigs (brush, dredge, sniper) with a Rage Craw trailer. I also like the 6th sense hybrid jigs. 3/8 - 1/2 ounce for me.

fishing user avatarriverbasser reply :

I also have went to exclusively using seibert jigs.( dredge brush)I love the hook and the brush heads come through wood better than any other, you really can't beat his quality and price. Ive tried many and feel I now have no reason to change anything

I will use a variety of trailers but for the most part its the rage tail menace, zoom fat Albert twin tail, rage craw, keitech and GY paddle tails.

I fish jigs all year long and these cover all my bases for my area.

fishing user avatarCroakHunter reply :

Love seiberts, but If I need jigs in 2 days, I'll order from tw and buy the terminator pro series. They are awesome. Good keeper, hook, and skirt colors. I throw 1/4, 3/8, and 1/2. For trailers I use yum f2 craw chunk, rage craw, reage menace, paca craw, senko. Don't go crazy with colors. You really only need 2 or 3 colors. Some variations of black/blue, green pumpkin, something with orange in it, and something with purple or saphire blue in it. There is a large thread on fishing a jig pinned at the top of one of the forums. A very good read.

fishing user avatarhawgenvy reply :

I have a personal preference for the Strike King Hack Attack Heavy Cover Swim Jig even though I generally don't swim it. It just works for me. I get a great hookup ratio with it. I can skip it, too. I just use black/blue and green pumpkin in 1/2 oz.  I put a Rage Craw or Menace Grub on the back.

fishing user avatarWRB reply :

You don't select a jig by brand, you select a jig by the hook it incorporates and the head design to perform where you fish it.

Thr site sponsor offers you premium hooks with a wide verity of head designs plus wire or collar tied skirts.

Trailers you have nearly unlimited selection depending on where you and how you jig fish.

Jigs: Siebert Brush, flipping and football jigs.

Trailers: NetBait Paca Craws and Chunks, RageTail Menace and Structure Bug.

fishing user avatarBruce424 reply :

I think if ya find a jig with an arkie style head you can't go wrong. Flat eye. 3/8ounce.

Of all the lures in an angle's aresenal the jig is one of the simplest & yet the most over completed by angler's.

Select 1 manufacture & stick with for now then later you can add your own personal repertoire of confusion.

fishing user avatarfishballer06 reply :

Custom made and hand tied - Go with Seibert jigs. I really like their finesse and sniper jigs.

Manufactured - Dirty Jigs is my favorite brand. The Scott Canterbury flipping, swim jig, and the Luke Claussen finesse are my favorites from them.

What line do you plan to use and rod length?

The more sparse the cover is like isolated brush/wood and weed patches the lighter the line you get away wit using.

^^^^This. I'll add don't worry too much about color. I go with green, brown or black. Just get a good variety of weights. As far as trailer, I like chunk trailers. They move good on the initial drop.

fishing user avatarboostr reply :

I keep it basic: 1/4oz or 1/2oz Arky in BK/BL and one in some kind of GP and brown. Same with Football Jigs. Matched with a GP trailer. Siebert is the place to start.

fishing user avatarJ Francho reply :

Siebert Outdoors Dredge Starter Pack.  Get the brush head style, and start fishing.  That head is pretty much gonna work in most any situation.

fishing user avatarChance_Taker4 reply :

I am a Kustom Kicker Jigs (2K Jigs) fan. Their Dock Monkey, Freak and Deposit Swim jig are my three go to jigs. But I also agree Siebert has some great jigs and my jig box has quite a few Sieberts along with 2K.

fishing user avatarChughes37 reply :

Went with the sieberts. I bought 4 starter packs, football head in 3/8 and 1/2, and brush 3/8 and 1/2.

fishing user avatarAngry John reply :

A great start.  Those are great jigs.  I would pick an action and no action trailer and be done.  My vote for the no action is a beaver and the action one of the rage baits.  I use the rage craw but to be honest they can all be good.  Don't go color or glitter crazy a watermellon red, green pumpkin black and a black blue will do almost anything.  The less choices is a lot easier on the water.  Clear water try watermelon first no go then pumpkin.  6 choices total is more than enough.

fishing user avatarJason Penn reply :

A jig is my favorite thing to fish, and I will echo what has already been said above. Black/blue, and green pumpkin will catch fish anywhere. For trailers, I use a twin tail or a small beaver-type. I use either 3/8 or 1/2oz brush jigs. I do trim the skirt to a finesse-type on the 3/8, just for a little different look, and it seems like I get more bites.

fishing user avatarAngry John reply :

Seems like everyone has there own jig and trailer mods also.  Trimming skirts brush guards bitting off a section of trailer.  I would leAve everything stock until you have a reason to modify.  The worst mod is cutting your brush guard to short and ruin the jig.

Whats a good finesse jig set up? If I had to guess I'd say 7'3 M/F with 14 lbs fluro???

610mxf with 10 or 12 lb yo-zuri hybrid.  Add to this an alphas sv or shimano core and your good to go.

Medium heavy fast action bait casting rod with 14lb Sniper FC if fluorocarbon line is your choice.

This site folks like SK Rage Tails for trailers, good with lots of color choices but not the only double tail frailer out there. GYCB double tail grubs are excellent with 2 sizes 4" and 5" with lots of color choices. Berkley Chigger craws are good with 2 sizes 3" and 4" with a fewer colors to choose, all will catch bass.

fishing user avatarprimetime reply :

Siebert Jigs has every type of jig you will need. If not sure what to get, You can send the owner an email with type of line, rod, cover you are fishing and He can put together a package of jigs that will catch you fish.

That is the benefit of having custom jigs made. Get them to match your style, gear, etc. Colors are all preference but browns, blacks, whites are a solid start, let the trailer add a different look, but his color chart is plenty tempting.

$50+ in jigs is an investment you will never regret. Jigs catch fish all year long, the more you fish them, the better you get, and a good quality jig is super important.

You can buy good jigs from certain brands, but I like how Siebert sends extra long weed guards for you to trim, uses quality hooks, tons of weights etc...Having a balanced jig for your set up makes life much easier, Siebert's prices are much lower than regular Jigs of similar quality imo.

I just noticed you purchased the Siebert Packs...Good move...Rage Menace, Curly tail single or twin tail grubs, and like other's said, get a craw that has action like a Chigger Craw style, then something that lacks all the flapping, I prefer a Zoom Critter craw or Larew Salt craw. Everyone prefers different trailers, Lately I have heard of guys catching big bags with Football Jigs and a Wacky Worm as trailer....Experiment, you will be surprised what works some days.

I really appreciate all of the info from all of you! I'm learning one step at a time. If I was to upgrade jig rods up to a $250 price point and I'd like to have at least two rods for my heavier and lighter jigs, what are some good options? I had my eye on a dobyns 763 or 765 but I think that would have too much backbone. I was also looking at 735c FH

fishing user avatarCatt reply :

I've field tested a few rods over the years & I'm currently testing Powell Inferno Rods. I'm so impressed with these rods I bought the one I was testing & ordered a second.

I really like the Jakked Dokk Rokk  Jig. Can pitch it ,drag it and skip it , just a great all purpose head.

As to rods , the Falcon finesse jig rod ,which is the old Eakins rod is a good one, along with the Denali N2 finesse jig rod.

10 or 12lb. line of your choice. Personally I use Sniper.

I fish 3/8 and 1/2 ounce jigs in a 7'4 heavy falcon Bucoo sr. I love it. I fish 1/4 ounce jigs on a 7ft medium fast action rod that we cannot talk about on here. And 3/4 and 1 ounce jigs on a 7'3 heavy lews tp1 speed stick. You could buy all 3 of these rods and be 10 bucks over your $250 budget. Pm me if you want to know what exact rod I was talking about. I also have a review on here about the falcon Bucoo
