What's everyone tie on? I personally like and firmly believe in Trokars. My buddies can't stand them and are gama users. I know it's ford vs Chevy but what hook and why?
I like the trokar flipping hooks really well. As far as everything that I don't use a flipping hook with, it's mostly mustad. When I buy new stuff it'll prob be Trokar though.
Gamakatsu, VMC, and Mustad. Not a fan of Owners and Trokars.
I've given Trokars a try, and I was very disappointed. Yes, they will work at first. However, Te tips dull and bend up equally as easily. Here is my list:
Dropshot: Gammy DS Hook sz1
Fipping: Gammy Heavy Cover Worm (4/0)
Wacky: Gammy Finesse Wide Gap (3/0)
Texas: Gammy Round Bend Worm Hook, modified by crimping down the barbs on the shank, wrapping gel-spun fly thread below the eye, then tyinging on a bait keeper and super gluing it in place. Kind of like making my own Rebard hook. (3/0-4/0).
Replacment Trebes: Owner St-36, St-41, or my favorite, St-58bc.
Not a fan of EWG worm hooks because there isnt much gap between the eye and the point of the hook. Hence my affinity for straight shanks.
I like Mustad for any soft plastics.
Most of my worm hooks are gamakatsu. Very good hooks, very sharp. Good value.
Trebels on the other hand, mustad ultra point 2x short 1x strong. Great hook.
Flipping Hooks: Trokar and VMC
Plastics: VMC and Gamakatsu
Treble hooks: Gamakatsu
Everything else: Gamakatsu or VMC
Owner 5304 deep throat hooks. Extremely sharp and I have never missed or lost a fish with this hook. Also light and strong since I like to throw really light jigs, the hook doesn't add any extra weight to the jig.
Owner, I have yet to find a hook as strong, durable, and penetrate as easily as the Owners do.
Owner here as well....
Owner (specialties and trebles), Gammy (EWG and Swimbait), Mustad (flipping and some trebles)
Gamakatsu fan here! I prefer them for most of my soft plastics presentations.
But I do experiment and try other brands like BPS's XPS series (don't hold point as well, IMO).
Have used Owner hooks for wacky, they're good, but not fav. However, I got several packs of the Owner Wacky Jig Heads, I like them, though they're a little soft.
Love the Buckeye Flick-It wacky jig heads.
Just bought some Daiichi offset worm hooks to try them out.
Liked Haybusa Spin Muscle hooks, but one broke on me and that kinda soured the experience so haven't gone back.
El Cheapo Eagle Claw Lazer Sharps. Owner hooks on some of my jigs from Sieberts.
I'm a big fan of Trokar's. Super sharp, super strong, and has great durability. I use them for most applications, however I really like VMC trebles as well as their spin shot. I've used a few BPS hooks like their vertical drop hooks for small swimbaits as well as Mustad for bigger swimbaits
Drop Shot= Haybasa penetrate and hold really well. I use them when the fish are biting funny or in the colder months when bites are few and far between. They bend but have never broke on me. Otherwise size 1 Gama DS hook all the way.
Treble: I love plain old Gama round bend bronze hooks. They arent so heavy that they impact action, they penetrate well and stay sharp. If the fish are behaving extremely aggressive I always have duplicates of the same bait with Gamakatsu EWGs bronze to keep those smallies pinned.
Beyond that I don't have major preference I just make sure there is enough gap and keep them sharp. I bought sharpener off ebay called Military Army Surplus Knife Sharpener. It works flawlessly and hasn't worn much over the last couple years.. I Highly recommend this 6 dollar purchase.
Gamas or Owners all the way.
If I had to choose one for a sponsor, I'd go mustad.
but I still use gama and owner for certain applications
Owner & Gamakastu are all I use.
I usually use Gama 4/0 EWG for Texas Rigs, Carolina Rigs, Flipping and Pitching and anything else imvolving a big worm. For wacky, I use the VMC 1/8oz. Wacky Jig head. I recently got a 25 pack of H2O Express 4/0 EWGs for $3 so I've been throwing those lately.

I regularly use hooks from Owner, Gamakatsu, and Mustad. These are the only brands of hooks I'll use, I've tried VMC and Trokar but didn't like them. I use mostly Owner and Gamakatsu but I do have quite a few cranks with the Mustad KVD trebles. I like Owner the best and would pick them over the rest if forced to only fish one brand. Gamakatsu would be my second choice.
Gammy EWG, Trokar flip and swimbait, mustad treble.
Whatever Basspro, Gander or Walmart have red-tagged - then I buy them all. I might not have this year's 'hot hook', but don't think my fishing suffers for it. I will throw everything from Eagle claw junkers to Trokars depending on the fishing situation.
Another Gammy fan here.
I'm not a fan of Trokar, I noticed that the TK130 tears your plastics. I prefer Gamakatsu they are sharp, durable, and affordable.
owner
Owner twistlocks for my senkos and Gamakatsu for everything else.
4/0 Lazer Sharps for bigger Zoom and KVD swim baits and flukes....3/0 Owners 1/16oz weighted black chrome TwistLOCKS for finesse worms and smaller swim baits such as Reaction Innovations and Jackall.
Mustad and Gamakatsu for some of the same including heavier/longer worms.
I had to quit using Trokar ewg's because I was having trouble tex-posing, they slice right through plastics like nothing. Felt like every cast I was re-adjusting my bait. I usually use Gamakatsu for plastics and Owner for hardbaits.
