Never Seen A Cabelas Like This 2025

I live in a small suburb of Indianapolis. We're getting a Cabela's about 10 minutes from my house. I can already predict a dip in my income 
They started putting up the walls and such this week of the building, and man, it's not very big at all. I've never been to a Cabela's before, but I've been to a Bass Pro, and it's not even close to that big. It looks to me as though it's probably about 125,000 - 150,000 square feet. Which doesn't seem all that big.
Has anyone ever been in one of these stores? Is the selection good?

The one I've been to isn't nearly the size of a BPS. Then again niether is Gander Moutain. BPS is the fishing and hunting version of Walmart, they are the superstore.

Smallest store they've built.
I discovered the same when I was looking at
where stores were close to me. None - yet.
But holy cow, the store in Phoenix is huge!

To the OP or anyone else for that matter, what is a typical size of a typical Cabela's? I ask because honestly 125-150K square feet seems fairly big. My frame of reference being a typical Lowe's or Home Depot runs between 105 and 130K so for a sporting goods store to be bigger than that seems adequate to me. There again, i suppose it matters how much of the store is devoted to fishing vs hunting, clothing and other junk. just curious....

It's only going to be 185,000 square feet.. A little small but better than Gander Mt or Dicks. I will still take a trip to BPS in Clarksville every few months because it is huge and there is a larger Cabela's 10 minutes away. I'll also continue to shop inline and at my local tackle connections, I just wont shop at Dicks or Gander anymore.

I have 3 cabelas within 45 miles from my house and the first 2 are huge. 2 stories with a cafe and fish tanks and a mountain with animals. I dont know the sq ft of any of them but the newest one is much smaller but still at the very least the size of a gander mountain.
EDIT: the rogers location is 185k, the owatonna one is 150k, and the new woodbury one is 85k.

I was just in Hampton for the past week and I went to that store in Hampton with my fiance and her sister. They were amazed at the size of the store, and I told them it was very small for a BPS. We stopped at the Richmond store yesterday on our way back to Pittsburgh and my fiance quickly saw what I meant about the Hampton store being so small.

That's tiny, about the size of my local cabelas bathroom 
our Hamburg one is 250,000sqft, no wonder why I get lost in there a lot.

Cabela's opened a similar sized store (80k sq,ft.) in Wichita about 3 years ago. While it's nowhere near the size of the one in KC, it has a pretty good selection, certainly better than Academy, Dick's or Gander Mtn. I have had no trouble at all finding ways to spend my money there.

Lubbock, TX just got a Cabela's Outpost. It is on par with our Gander Mountain but with more hype. I still primarily use Academy and the occasional online purchase for my fishing gear and my local gun store blows them out of the water on gun prices.

Well, after reading all this....
1. I'll be glad to have something closer to me than Gander Mtn. which is about 30 mins away, and in a far more busy area of Indianapolis
2. Like Jakob said above, it's only 80K SF....which the Staples I used to work at was a "normal" sized store for them, and it was 88K SF
3. Even if some of their selection is useless for the typical central IN angler, it'll still be far better than the DSG next door to it
4. As some of you mentioned, I don't anticipate any kinds of problems spending money there

Northern VA is getting an 'Outpost' too, Gainesville. 79K sq feet, which makes it nearly 40% bigger than my local Gander or DSG (58k and 59k respectively). So I'll take it.

But the Hampton BPS has a larger aquarium than the Richmond BPS.

The Cabela's an hour north of me is 40,000sqft......
There's enough fishing equipment to keep you busy. Ours doesn't do an overstocking of house brands so there's quite the selection. To be honest it's one of the best Cabela's I've been to just due to the fact it stocks a lot of stuff in a small area.
The redeeming trait that our Cabela's has is it's a Distribution Center so there's a warehouse adjacent to the store the size of a small town with everything the company sells at your disposal (and usually a 20-30 minute wait)
I believe I've been to one of these Cabela's outposts before in Sidney, NE visiting my sister in Wyoming. Aside from fishing corners in gas stations, it was the worst outdoor shop I've ever been to. The Cabelas in La Vista, NE was pretty awesome though.

The Cabela's in Plano/Allen, TX is huge. Complete with a restaurant and coffee shop. Huge. Stands toe-to-toe with the BPS in Katy, TX. Bought some good stuff there.

we got a decent sized Cabelas here in Upstate, SC. The only thing it lacks that the Concord Mills BPS has are the boats and the home decor stuff. It's always packed but a painful area to go to because of traffic. We are getting a BPS in two years in Greer. The Stapleton, CO BPS might be the nicest one I've been in though
The anderson, sc Dicks is really good believe it or not. I guess being near Lake hartwell and all helps.

I liked the Cabela's outside of Louisville, KY. I was pretty excited when it opened. I lived down the road in Lexington and was sick of having to drive through Louisville traffic into Indiana just for BPS' stuff. Maybe it's a blessing I moved back to far western Kentucky, I would be flat broke hitting that Cabela's up.
It's plenty big. Very open. I feel like there's more product than decorations. Unlike BPS which has 10,000x more crap hanging on the wall of a single store than what you'll find in all the novelty restaurants put together east of the Mississippi.

I'm near Terre Haute so I've been waiting for that Cabelas to open up when it does. It might be a two hour or more drive for me to get to it. From what I read it's their smaller version store. It better be a good store. There's a Gander Mountain here in Terre Haute and if I'm going to drive two plus hours to get to that Cabelas it better be big enough for me to spend a couple hours in to look around and maybe buy some stuff.

You saying that Cabelas is only going to be the size of a Staples store? If so then I will not be visiting.

During the 1980s, it was a tight race between Bass Pro Shops, Cabelas & Gander Mountain,
but that's been changed by the Internet. Gander Mountain was the last tackle store to get online,
a foolish move that cost them tremendous market share. Cabelas never expanded their inventory
to include anglers below the Mason-Dixon line. Ever since I moved to the south in 1992,
it’s a VERY rare day that I need anything from Cabelas. In the south, it was a footrace between
Tackle Warehouse and Bass Pro Shops, but in my opinion, Tackle Warehouse took BPS under the bleachers.

Cool! I've been up to the Richmond store several
times. MUCH bigger than Hampton. Restaurant,
two stories, etc....
Yeah, Hampton Roads is "too small a market",
I suppose.... But I bet the BPS here does pretty
darn good business.

I live near the Hamburg, Pa store and its HUGE, and on par with the BPS in Harrisburg, Pa. Now, the Christiana, DE Cabela's, which just opened up, is tiny, like a bigger Gander Mountain.

We have a huge BPS and Cabelas here in lower MI. At first they were like a big,fun adventure.After a few trips,though, I started feeling like a steer in a stockyard. The sheer amount of stuff there was to look at became both mentally and physically draining. I do most of my buying on line now.

I live on the north side of Indy and can't wait to see it open but the last time I went to BPS in Louisville they seemed liked they downsized a ton. Angler's World in Greenfield had more tackle and they only have about 1000 sq ft.
I won't hold my breathe, but it will be nice to have another option.
