Fall is a great time of the year to be a fisherman and outdoorsman. For those of us who remain on the water in the Fall, what is your favorite and most productive lure between September and October ? I think it will be interesting to see what is productive for everyone in the Fall, and compare this to what lures are generally recommended.
Jig.
Alabama Rig
This will be a popularity contest of what people like to fish most. Last fall I caught a PB on a cheap old BPS store brand spinnerbait, so I had to pick that. I also love those other baits.
White Chatterbait with a Pearl White Super Fluke Jr trailer and a Livetarget Baitball Series Threadfin Square Bill. Walking down the banks fishing them aggressively
Rinky Dink! ????
Lipless crankbait, especially when the water temp is in the mid 50's or cooler. Several ways to provoke bites with these depending on the mood and activity level of the Bass and they will hit at very cold water temps. Such a versatile lure. Throw in a jig just in case the trap bite is off.
Jig pitcher powers activate!
Jig and craw followed by a lipless crankbait.
Crankbaits but not squarebills.
Lipless Crankbait
lipless crankbait and chatterbait usually work very well me
These answers will vary greatly depending on the part of the country we are located. That said, in the South my favorite is topwater..... popper, buzz bait, walking bait.
Double willow spinner bait with a mr twister trailer. Second a 5 inch senko rigged wacky style.
A rig or a Carolina rig with a smokin blue centipede. Either one will put absurd numbers in the boat in the fall here.
Bladed jig with a 5" paddle tail on the back, time to get those big shad eaters.
Bladed jig with either a 3.75" Rage Swimmer, a Rage Bug or a Z Craw trailer. ????
Gotta vote for chatterbait too. In fact I plan to pick up my chatterbait setup soon if I ever stop fishing with those d**n Magnum Fluke lol. I just checked my last year caught and pretty much on chatterbait plus my PB @ 7.7lbs.
What..... No frog or giant spoon??

Falls under the "other" choice on the list. Chatterbait/bladed jig wasn't listed either.
I voted jerkbait I've built so much confidence in those suckers the last couple of years. They just flat out catch fish.
How can I create a survey??
Rattle trap
Spook, Rattle trap, jigs and plastic worms
At this rate, we will be in a summer pattern until Christmas. 96 yesterday!
Gotta love that spook bite. Might not catch them all the time but it's by far my most favorite topwater.
HA! The man lists eleven lure types and adds "other". And "other" stays at the top of the survey!!! This tells you just how much tackle crap there is for us dummies to buy!!! Bait Monkey is the monkey on my back...
Well for me Favorite & Most Productive are not exactly the same.
Favorite for me means it's the biggest bass catcher while most productive, guess that one's self-explanatory.
Favorite - big spinnerbait (with an Umbrella Rig not far behind)
Most Productive is a SK Rage Bug on a swinghead (and second place here is on another plant !)

Presently there are 60 votes and only 3 have chosen a Spook style topwater and only 1 has chosen a Sammy style topwater (myself). Considering what we know about bass feeding behavior in the Fall , doesn’t it seem odd there weren’t more votes in these categories ?

Yesterday was a tough day for me on the lake. Had big ideas as to how larger worm fishing was going to produce. Well that was just a real bad thought.
Went with one of my favorite Rat-L-Traps, seems like they always produce in a crunch. 3rd cast working my way back into a lay down and nailed a 2.80 lb. not a giant by any means but the last month has been a dink feast for me.

Which one is your favorite? I like the chrome with blue back. After half the paint is worn off from rip rap
At my local lake, it is a ned rig with Roboworm ned worm. Always bring a few..
It's was a cold one Saturday morning. Got into the mid-30's overnight. Struggled most of the day throwing traps, plastics, cranks, spinnerbaits, keitechs. Finally put on a white chatterbait with chartreuse trailer and got my biggest bass of the year. ????
Other, where I bass fish Threadfin Shad are the primary prey during the fall that bass target. My choices of lures for numbers of bass are structure spoons and tail spinner similar to Little George.
Big bass I use the same lures year around; jigs, big worms and swimbaits/wakebaits.

C’mon guys where’s all the jig people, I’m disappointed????

I actually have three favs. Chrome W/ Blk Back, Chrome W/ Blue Back and Gold W/ Blk Back. They are with me/on the boat all the time. Yesterday I had on chrome w/blk back. I was gonna throw the gold something told me to tie on chrome. They are all the same. Chrome and gold is chipped, backs are worn off and the gold is real light in color anyway. In my opinion they are the only ones that are needed for me. My other had not see the amount of use these have. I keep doubles and triples of these.
Chatterbait needs its own category
I didnt bother to choose because its different every year .
isnt a spook and a sammy basically the same thing, just two different brands of walking baits.
Shad colored Yum Dinger or Zoom Horny Toad.
We still have a ton of hydrilla on the reservoir.

You are probably correct ! When I realized I forgot this lure , it was to late to change the poll because so many had already voted.

Yes, and next time I will probably put both these lures into one category called Topwater Walking Bait. : )
Spinnerbait or Rage swimmers.
old school...still works...the venerable floating worm...
good fishing...
Normally, its either a jig or Texas rigged plastic. Oddly enough, this year for me it has been crank baits and chatter baits.

Reading season posts reminds me of a basic bass fish facts; fish where they, not where you want them to be and use lures the bass want to eat, not lures you like to fish.
