H2O Lures Discontinued... 2024

fishing user avatarHook2Jaw reply :

Went online to stock up on the H2O Xpress Squarebill and Ultimate Jerk Shad only to find they're no longer listed on the webpage.  I spent a lot of time researching these baits, looking at them, and finally bit the bullet and bought a double handful.  They were the first squarebill and jerkbait I've had any serious success with, and I had planned to buy their deeper jerkbait, medium depth cranks, and deep cranks as well hoping for more value priced producers.

They're all gone online.  I spoke with a chat representative and she informed me that they had been discontinued.

I guess once my spare kayak sells I'll be making the two hour drive to stock up.  This is a major kick to the gut for me.

Does anyone have any insider information?  Will they be replacing these baits with a new product?

fishing user avatarTroy85 reply :

That's a bummer.  I use a lot of H2O express Squarebills.

fishing user avatarHook2Jaw reply :

My name is Troy, too!  It seems people with great names save money and throw a pretty solid bait, @Troy1985s.

fishing user avatarRobin reply :

Hopefully this is just a matter of them cutting back on what they sell online. I was at my local Academy yesterday and they had a fairly good stock of H2O lures on the racks with no "clearance" signs evident. Having purchased lures online from Academy in the past, I am at a loss on how they ever make money on these sales. My last purchase consisted of

just enough H2O lures to get free shipping. I received six different FedEx packages over a one week period shipped from multiple Academy stores throughout the US.

LOL!  That is hilarious and so true.  Can you channel some of your inner Troy my way...so my PB can be between 10-11lbs as well?!?!?!?

fishing user avatarJ.Vincent reply :

Did they discontinue the entire line of H20 lures ? Or is it possible they are discontinuing the color patterns and reintroducing new patterns in 2019 ?

She was a tough one, expect a 12+ to be posted up when the spawn comes.  Private pond.  Easy peasy stuff.

I was told online that the now unlisted lures are discontinued, but I will report back once Academy emails me more information.

I'm hoping they're just switching them up a bit or moving to a new factory rather than having to lose my favorite jerkbait and squarebill.

fishing user avatarChrisD46 reply :

Just today I looked on their site for the Gunfish and Sammy looking topwater baits - gone !

fishing user avatarHook2Jaw reply :

Yeah, I've been scouring the net trying to figure out replacements for all the H2O lures I use and planned to use and it just hurts.

fishing user avatarthe reel ess reply :

If you look on their site, they have very few listed anymore and they're almost all on clearance. It looks to me like they'll be discontinued. Hopefully they have something sles in mind.

fishing user avatarTroy85 reply :

I was trying to do a little reasarch and I found this.

The H2O line of hardbaits that Academy carries is made by several different manufacturers.

Spro makes there rattletrap bait, as it is exactly the same mold as an Aruku Shad.

Bandit makes the small shallow and deep divers with the rounded lips.

Lucky Craft makes the CRM and CRS shallow divers with the square bills.

The jerkbaits and topwaters I am unsure.

I was told that a private company contracted by Academy buys the unpainted bodys from those manufacturers and finishes and hooks them out and packages them.

This info is from several years ago.  If they are being discontinued, my only guess was that the contract expired and they couldn't work out another deal.  I guess time will tell, I hope they aren't gone forever though. I've got nothing but good things to say about using H2O xpress square bills.

fishing user avatarHook2Jaw reply :

I knew that Luckycraft made the CRS and M, but had no idea that Bandit and Spro did stuff for them as well.  Perhaps they'll iron out a new contract soon, I have heard good things about the Aruku and do believe Bandit makes a quality product.

Academy, don't let me down.  I refuse to use the turds BPS puts out, I'll spend 15 bucks a bait before that happens.

Hey, all you guys that know, think or "researched" who made/makes H2O lures, I have two questions,

Wanna buy a bridge?...

Where do you guys get this?

The Earth is neither flat nor spherical, but obviously an oval.

I'll let you know once I get my river finished.

The only thing I have found pertaining to the production of the lures was on tackleunderground, unconfirmed sources.  Good call, I don't think anyone here knows for sure.

Thanks for adding a bit of comedic trolling to the thread, guys, I do a share of it myself.  I'm still heartbroken over the loss of my value bills and jerks.

fishing user avatarNittyGrittyBoy reply :

Give it time, hopefully something will fill the void. Maybe invest a little higher quality baits for the time being. Don't snag any off and your gold!

Strike king squarebills, and my personal favorite, smithwick rogues!

Well heck, this news is not good! Next thing I'm going to hear is that Santa isn't real. Guess I'll be at Academy in the morning.

fishing user avatarLefty2215 reply :

Ok so I wasn’t just going crazy. I looked like 3 or 4 days ago I believe and everything was up. Few things on clearance but not much, only oddball colors for the most part. Then went to look yesterday and basically nothing. Tried chatting but it said they were experiencing a higher volume than normal. Wonder if everyone else was thinking the same thing as me lol

I can't confirm 100% what I read, its just what I found doing some reading.  I meant to put that in my post above, but it looks like I left it out.

Hope they keep the H20 frogs.

The SPRO lipless crank is very similar, but it's not exact. The gills look a little different and the rear hook is on the bottom, where the H2O rear hook is on the end. I guess it's still very possible that they're made by SPRO. Just not in the same mold. Maybe they're made in Spro's old or prototype mold.

fishing user avatarHook2Jaw reply :

Regardless of who makes the baits, they catch fish.  I just out-produced my x-raps with my ultimate jerk shads today.  I'm not saying they're better by any means, but they catch freaking fish at the lowest of price points and other store brands do not compare.

If you're gone, H2O Xpress, I will mourn you.

Pay your respects, heathens.

fishing user avatarTroy85 reply :

Maybe we should have some sort of ceremony to celebrate their success.  Hows a week at Chickamauga sound?

fishing user avatarHook2Jaw reply :

Got a little boy on the way in February, saving to move, and saving for a wedding.  I'll celebrate them in Georgia, @Troy1985s.

fishing user avatarChrisD46 reply :

*I was in my local Academy Sports today : I saw no strange signs of impdending doom for H2O cranks , top water , jerks , etc. There were a few that had clearance signs on them - but so did a number of other lure companies have clearance signs up . I saw nothing specific to H2O lures in the store that would cause a shift or change of any sort - it's just happening on the Academy web site at this time .

I am saving up for those academy lures - they have become my favorite lately ! They just catch fish when others dont.

I just hope they aren't dismissing it for good. They just cant do that !

I was at the Knoxville, TN Academy today. They had a good supply of all H2O baits in stock. There were a few colors here and there that were out of stock. No clearance tags or decals on anything. The counter guy said that he hasn't heard anything about them being discontinued, but he was a part timer.

On a different note, I did pick up my granddaughters first bike. She loves the Frozen movie. We got her a Frozen bike.

Maybe I will run into you in there one day!

fishing user avatarBassWhole! reply :

Sorry I didn't post this earlier guys, the new girlfriend is insatiable.... :)

So Academy contacted all the Major brands that manufacture their baits and had them produce an emergency run of all their best ones due to the furor here, and had Santa make a special early run to deliver them, and now there are 54 H2O baits shown on Academy's website. So all is well with the (flat) World...

fishing user avatarHook2Jaw reply :

And they are back.  I had two of their people on chat tell me they were discontinued.

Mildly annoyed.  Academy has trolled me.  Nice find, @reason.

fishing user avatarNittyGrittyBoy reply :

@Hook2Jaw Reason called you out on your info source, and he comes on here with that and you just believe him?

For all we know Santa's elves could have fed him that garbage! Your trolling skills are slacking sir...

@reason and about that dang bridge you was selling? Must've slid off the flat Earth huh

fishing user avatarHook2Jaw reply :

@NittyGrittyBoy they've been listed in full on the website again and there are new colors available.  The two people I talked to on the chat flat told me they had been discontinued, and one told me she would have an e-mail sent with further information.

I don't think they would put discontinued bait back up with new colors, and I haven't received an e-mail.  I think the chat help there is garbo.

I'm not really worried about information sources, trolling, or the maker of these baits.  I know when they go on sale for 2 bucks a pop I end up with a pretty quality squarebill, etc.  :)

So I was shopping at academy in Brunswick, Ga and they were loaded down with plenty of H20 lures, cranks, jerks, topwater, had em all.

I bought a couple cranks and I must say, visually they are impressive. Great hooks, great quality, great paint. I hope they fish good as they look. At 3.99 a piece I will be purchasing some more!

Same here. Haven't been to both of the local stores but I stopped at one last week and it had all the usual H2O baits at regular price and all their rods and reels too.

The author of this thread states in this thread that the lures have not been discontinued. It was just a misunderstanding. This post needs a "fake news" tag or something. I about had a heart attack when I first saw it.

The H20 Lures must be doing fine. I found these new glide baits there last night. The lady stocking them said they had several new baits coming in stock.

H2O Lures Discontinued...

Again? or Still?

Kate says "Hi!"

fishing user avatarHook2Jaw reply :

@Hank., definitely not a misunderstanding.  I received an email from Academy stating some lures were being discontinued but which lures would no longer be produced was not disclosed.

I just chose not to reawaken this thread because you get folks in here trolling, antagonizing, talking about bridges and Kate and whatnot.

fishing user avatarfin reply :

The title of the post is making people think that ALL H2O lures have been discontinued.

That is a misunderstanding. Can we agree on that much? I'm not trying to blame anyone.

fishing user avatarNittyGrittyBoy reply :

I resurrected the thread, simply to state I shopped there the other day and they still had a great selection of baits.

Sorry for the confusion for the new guys, but I didn't feel the need for another thread about same thing.

fishing user avatarHook2Jaw reply :

At the time of thread creation, the academy website had almost all of the h2o xpress line no longer listed.  Two online associates informed me the lure line had been discontinued.

Some time later, the website showed the entire line once again.  Over time, some of the items have remained on clearance and the amount of colors available have diminished.

So I talked to another online associate and got her to step up the chain and shortly thereafter, received an email from Academy.  The email stated some lures were being discontinued, and new lures were being introduced.

I decided not to update this thread with that information because I didn't want to read about more bridges for sale.  Sorry, @Hank., I was not trying to come off as confrontational.  I just never laid out the understanding I eventually received.

TLDR: some h2o lures are discontinued, new ones are being introduced.
