Stumbled upon this on a different site, and it seems like it would work pretty darn good. For those that don't know what it is, it's just a swim jig with with a willow leaf blade attached to the hook the same way you'd rig a trailer hook on a spinner bait. I think I'm gonna order a few of North Star's swim jigs and try this out. Or does anyone know if they sell their swim jigs with this option?
I was fishing with my friend here in Wisconsin on a nasty flowage and he threw them and caught a few pike. No clue where he got them..
That'd be an excellent bait to throw from the back of the boat!
I had the chance last month to go fishing with a guide on a nearby lake and he was using them. I spent some time observing and then tired them myself. Produced well in the late morning that day, but overall would rate them as a "give it a try but give yourself some time to learn and master the techniques" ... Just me view.
I don't think they sell it. I've never seen it on the site.
I don't see why it would work.
jigs4bass sells them as a whole.
It's just a neat alternative. I've been giving it a try when the swim jig bite is on during certain days lately but I seem to do much better with either a swim jig or a spinnerbait. I have caught a few fish on it though and the bites were violent. Bouncing it off cover was key where I was fishing. Straight retrieves didn't yield any bites or fish but an erratic pause or twitch prior to or after hitting cover did the trick. Seemed to to better near wood than weed edges but it's still early to tell.
why not just buy 50 blades/50 swivels for $4 and dress ur current jigs? (oh and surgical or aquarium tube) its just like adding a trailer hook to a spinnerbait/chatterbait/buzz etc
I think most probably do take blades off spinnerbaits and the tubing from a trailer hook keeper and just make their own.

I only have 3 swim jigs and I was gonna do a North Star order anyway, so I thought maybe I could have them make me some. I did make one already though but didn't throw it tonight. The crank bait bite was on.

Kinda fitting with a new cranking rod too right lol
Yes lol. We've been catching a bunch on lipless cranks here. Now I just gotta get used to that rod bending in half when I hook up lol.

You'll love it when you never loose a fish lol

yea its nice not loosing treble hook fish on a crank rod. i only use my crank rod in open water and/or rocks. don't sleep on a regular MH fast tip rod when in grass. its much easier to rip the lipless off tips of grass and it generates vicious strikes (the crank rod loads too much so i don't get near the grass bites)
I've made quite a few of those on special requests from BR members. It adds about 1.75 to the jig because all I have is Sampo swivels and Premium blades.

Can you post some pics or send me some?
I'll try and post a picture tonight. I have some swim jigs I'll just add it too.
I really want a swim jig with the eyes and what not. Thanks. I appreciate it.
Here ya go.
That looks great. Which color is that?
Good gravy that looks sweet Mike!
Ah something tells Me this thread may drum up some more business for him lol.
Mike makes quality jigs. I'm going to do a review on his grass jig when I get a chance.
I have a couple swim jigs from siebert outdoors and I asked him to make some of them in to switchblade.
THe one I rigged up looks amazing in the water.
Sorry for the bad picture it was a cell picture.
Its a 3/8 oz with a 3.5 willow in OOMOD color.
Can I get that in a 1/2 or 3/4oz?
Sure can. I can make them in 3/8, 1/2, 3/4, 1oz.
If u will pm me and let me know how to order these. Thanks.
How did u secure the blade? Tubing or another method?
Tubing.
Did u get ur order in and how they working for u?
Is there a basic recommendation for what size blade for the size of SwimJig?
OR is this a "size of forage" thing? Put on a willow which matches the size of the forage regardless of the SwimJig size.
Thoughts?
