WeIl I guess I saved the best for last guys, l have used hollow body frogs a lot and have thrown many brands but I've always heard about the all mighty spro bronzeye frog never really bothered with buying them...
Well I decided to go buy some, I bought a normal sized one, a junior, and the popper style one. They were all solid black except the popper because it was black with yellow lines on it.
The first thing you notice is that they walk super easy, by far the easiest frog to walk I have used, and the popper just has such a perfect action. I will definitely be purchasing more of these bad boys and I'm going to recommend them to anyone who ask!
I went out to a pond as the sun went down tonight and killed them on the popper style one!
Spro is my favorite brand as well. Lots of guys seem to have durability issues with them but that has never been the case with me. You definitely need to do yourself a favor and get a Bronzeye Shad ASAP, if you think the other baits walk well you just wait.
Nice job catching those fish by the way!
I've caught probably 30 bass now on the popper one alone and it seems to be holding up fine so far, but who knows only time will tell if it will fall apart,On 8/6/2014 at 9:42 AM, War Eagle 44 said:Spro is my favorite brand as well. I don't know if its designed to do this or what but a good % of the bass I caught have been hooked after the hook has spun around and is backwards on the frog. It seems that when it spins around like that the hooks will get a hold of the fish much better... You can see what I'm talking about in the first picture.
I'm not sure that's happening before the hook is going into the fish, I think it's more than likely just the body being spun around during the fight but yes that does happen quite often. Sometimes the hook even comes completely out of the frog and the body is way up your line when you land your fish. Strange things happen sometimes, no big deal though. Frog fishing is my favorite way to catch bass so I spend way more time than I should with my frog rod in my hand.
Ah that would make sense, and yes I agree frog fishing is nothing but fun!
I'm glad you're have success with the Spro. Pad Cashers last MUCH longer for me. Nice fish
I've got a bronzeye frog that used to be the same black and yellow color, now it's mostly yellow because I've caught so many fish on it. The popper is a great bait too. I had a good day with a black and blue popper earlier this year when one of the lakes flooded into the shoreline weeds.
I second the bronzeye shad as well. I just bought one about a month ago and have torn them up with it the last couple times I fished it. It walks better than even the regular bronzeye frog does.
I love the Spro Bronzeye Popper, they're proven fish-catchers....but I must say I keep tearing them up. I've had bass hit them so hard time after time they just start to fall apart. I wish they were just a tad more durable, mine usually fall apart where the hooks exit the body.
Which other frogs are you comparing the Spro to?
Live target
Boze
Booyah
Mann's
Lunker hunt
Molix
Megabass
H20 Xpress
Those are some frog brands I've used off the top of my head, I would say my top three would probably be livetarget, spro, and booyah in no particular order...
I sold my Spro Dean Rojas popper frog cause it was being outfished by my Koppers.
No idea why it was but glad its workin out for ya..
I just picked up a couple of these a few weeks ago, black & white. Only threw it a few times and the few fish I've caught have been from letting it sit. May I ask how you guys are working these?

Your talking about these right? I've used them and they are great when they don't get clogged with grass but you can't fish them in matted grass and pads like you can a spro popper frog...
how do you guys repair your leaking frogs?

I only fish normal frogs by walking them honestly, any other time I'm fishing a popping frog.
Just give it some pops and let it sit, mix it up, you'll figure out what works

I use krazy glue...
I can't fish frogs. I've been trying to learn how to walk them and they just hop instead. I trimmed the legs, I've watched videos, I've put time into it, and yet still can't get it down. I'm not much for frog fishing anyways, I like fishing trick worms.
Yes i like my spro popper frog. Its the killer gill color, kind of a fish pattern. great lure. I also got the spro baby popper in a shad pattern, with intentions on using it in open water for smallmouth but i haven't had a golden opportunity to use it yet. I like my black/yellow booyah popper too, hollow bodys are awesome aren't they? I have had my koppers frog for years now but i can't walk that thing steady. It just bobs along.

You aren't leaving enough slack in your line.

Thanks I was asking because I've only used normal frogs which I usually walk or burn back to me. These are harder to get that side to side action so I've been using them more like a regular popper.

Snap your rod tip downwards sharply then immediately move your rod back towards the bait to throw some slack in the line. You have to have slack to allow the bait to move freely from side to side and effectively walk. It takes some practice to do but it's very well worth the effort
