D&m Discontinuing Bladed Swim Jigs? 2025

fishing user avatarCTGalloway21 reply :

Per TW message board.  They will stop making the Piranha, etc. until they do a redesign in 2015.

fishing user avatarshawnmc reply :

Wow, I just got 2 of them. They look great and fish great although I lost an eye on one the first day using it.

fishing user avatarCTGalloway21 reply :

just went to their website and they are no longer showing up.  I just picked up 7 of the bluegill Piranha jigs off TW.  My favorite color of the series.  Not sure why they would discontinue and redesign something that is so awesome.

fishing user avatar86se7en reply :

NOOOOOOOO! By far my favorite bladed swim jig  :cry3:

fishing user avatarFrankW reply :

That seems strange to me. Why wouldn't they take care of their customers until the new product is available?

Frank

fishing user avatarRiver Rat316 reply :

ZMAN is redoing his patents right now, I would guess you will see alot of them disappearing from the market because the do not want to get slapped with a cease and desist.

fishing user avatarCTGalloway21 reply :

so you think Z-man has something to do with it?

fishing user avatarZB85 reply :

This really bums me out cause I only have 2 piranhas right now.

fishing user avatargobig reply :

Zman has everything to do with it my understanding is d&m got the cease and desist. You should see what is going on in the swimbait world with all the leagal BS.

fishing user avatarCTGalloway21 reply :

what is happening in swimbait world?  Somebody having to stop  making baits I need to know of so I can stock up.

What about all the other companies that make bladed jigs. Strike King, Frenzy, Phenix, Fat Sack...just to name a few.
fishing user avatarherruberraschen reply :

I think quite a few companies were hit pretty good with the original Z-MAN patent. Strike King does business with Z-MAN so I think they're pure poison model which has the patented blade could be ok.

fishing user avatarZB85 reply :

D&M is probably the top seller out of them all

Zman owns the design rights to a bent blade connected directly to the jig head (I believe this is right, could be a little more to it, maybe not.).

Bladed jigs /w a flat blade and a split ring connected to the iig head aren't considered copyright infringements.

The strike king rage blade is a completely different design all together. their other chatterbait is the same as most others. split ring connected to blade

Phenix chatterbaits aren't in production and are very hard to come by.

Fat sack, Karu lures, etc all the like have the split ring connected to the blade which is not copy right infringement

fishing user avatarBig239Fish reply :

Per D&M's Facebook, they are in fact discontinued.... Great. I just picked up my first few from them and really liked them. Looks like its time to hit TW hard for them.

fishing user avatarsmalljaw67 reply :

If the bait is made with a blade connected to the head via split ring or other device then you are fine, if the blade is attached directly to the head then you are in violation of the patent. I believe it covers the blade shape, size, and how it is attached. I bought 500 blades that were exact to the original chatterbait from Barlows tackle and not long after I got a cease and desist letter, after a little checking I found that as long as I didn't sell any baits I was fine.

fishing user avatarRiver Rat316 reply :

Some of the bigger companies will give royalties to zman to sell baits with the blade attached directly to the bait, imho this is the only way to go with these baits. Like it or not it is intellectual property of Zman and deserves to be protected, regardless of who originally designed it. It is just to bad someone didn't patent the original eaker shaker since this is where the bait originated from in the late 70's

You can say "Jerry Rago."  No worries.

I think Bill S and SPRO are going to give him a coronary one of these days. LOL

It don't stop there, seems like just about anyone making a rat or a glide bait is hearing from him.

I guess I don't see it as being all that intellectual when they copied it them selves. This is almost as bad as Micky from 3:16 claiming he invented the piano hinge. Its just to bad the smaller companies don't have the resources to battle it out in court.

Wow, hope your ok. Get a cool eye patch lol. :laugh5: jk

fishing user avatarZach P reply :

Saw this last night on D&M's facebook page right before I passed out. Immediately got up, got online, and ordered another 10 lol. D&M Piranha's "were" the best on the market. This is why Zman is redoing it's patents. During a bunch of early season tournaments in both BASS and FLW guys were destroying fish on the D&M chatterbaits. Clearly this made Zman a little unhappy because the blade design was close to theirs. It's pretty comical as far as I'm concerned because a zman chatterbait can't even come close to the detail and components put into a D&M! Hopefully if they choose to redesign the bait it will be just as good.....but I wasn't willing to take the chance last night when I saw this lol.

He bought the original chatterbait design, he did not rip it off, there is a huge difference in the business world. I am not saying I like the patent, in fact I think most of the patents handed out in the fishing world are bs, terminator patented titanium when they were no where close to the first to be using titanium wire, on top of that is a an element and I don't understand a patent on an element. We won't even get into the patented designs of soft plastics or swim baits, but the whole idea of a patent has to be upheld, otherwise we turn into China

you are right but if you are gonna own a patent, at least make a quality bait.

Skeet Reese(d-bag)claimed he invented the Sick Fish, when it's really the trash fish by Little Creeper. Yes Berkley bought the design from them, but for Skeet(d-bag)to do his promo and claim he designed it is ridiculous. I had a good back and forth with him on Facebook last year about too lol. He stayed classy though.
