What is a good buzbait? 2025

fishing user avatarIt's a toad reply :

I'm fairly new to buzz bait fishing so I was wondering what is a good buzz bait.

fishing user avatar1201vilbig reply :

MegaStrike Cavitron

fishing user avatarCatt reply :

Ya want good or the best?

Cavitron #1 ;)

fishing user avatarYeajray231 reply :

I've had some good days with a cheap booyah "buzzinator" .

fishing user avatarBluebasser86 reply :

Cavitron, Crock-o-Gator Head Knocker, or War Eagle.

fishing user avatarcraww reply :

I Live and die with a 3/8 or half ounce single prop buzzbait tied on. Virtually all of the brands that use quality components catch fish equally as good.  A local guy makes some with a gamakatsu hook for $4.00 and I kind of settled in on those and just buy a dozen or so for a season. Catch a few 6lb+ fish and even the most expensive models get out of wack and won't plane quite right. Ive noticed a bait that tracks to one side or runs with the prop and jig head not straight up and down catch fish fine in shallow water, ( I have some that run so hard to the left or right I mark the props and use em for going under docks) but in open water the prop/head orientation really does matter..Retuning a buzz bait after an encounter with big fish can work but my batting average isn't that great.

A few store brands that I like

-secret weapon with the Colorado blade (my favorite)

-The strike king KVD models

-Boo yahs are great for the $

-damiki (more subtle if that matters to u)

-Cavitron

Only ones I disliked was the old titanium terminators. Great Idea, potentially a game changer for me but they never ran right from the get go.

Tight lines!

fishing user avatarA-Jay reply :

I'm starting to see a trend . . . .

And with good reason.

I haven't tried many but another vote for the Cavitron.

fishing user avatarHeron reply :

D&M Slow Roller.    No other buzzbait makes such a sound.   Fantastic addition

fishing user avatarSam reply :

Cavitron.

fishing user avatarscaleface reply :

The three pack Luck e strikes  work well at a great price .I use the Original Lunker Lure most . I have a couple of Cavitrons for 2016 , just never got on a buzz-bait bite last year .

fishing user avatarroadwarrior reply :

Cavitron

fishing user avatar"hamma" reply :

Calvitron and Terminator Ball Buster.

Colors : BLACK/BLACK BLADE

              WHITE

fishing user avatarscaleface reply :

I have a buzz bait mold too , so  I'll do some experimenting . Theres a couple of ideas floating around in my head that probably wont work but they will be fun to try .

fishing user avatarBlackhawk83 reply :

I like the strike King KVD buzz baits especially when I find them on sale

fishing user avatarsamwise2u reply :

the one that catches fish!  :drinking-62:

fishing user avatarjunyer357 reply :

Megastrike cavitrons or picasso dinnerbell

fishing user avatarOklahoma Mike reply :

I probably throw a buzzbait as much or more than any other bait and have for decades. I have yet to find one I like more than the Cavitron. Reading above, that sentiment seems to be almost universal.

fishing user avatarsnake95 reply :

I'm not coming at this question with the kind of experience the guys mentioning the Cavitrons and War Eagles have.  So take this with that in mind.

As a rookie looking for a cheap buzzbait to give it shot, the Strike King Banshee Series for about $4 from Dicks has certainly done well for me over the past two years.  Both of my PB largemouth for 2015 and 2016 were caught on this bait, and the majority of my top 5 bass for both years.  I had never even seen anyone fish a buzzbait before I started with it.  They squeak like crazy. Mine have held up to some vicious strikes.   You might do better with another choice, but you certainly won't go wrong with a Banshee.

fishing user avatarscaleface reply :

As long as they squeak and have a sharp hook . I have used  1 dollar buzzbaits with great success . Dont get those 1 dollar Wal-Mart Specials . They are a poor design .

fishing user avatarWRB reply :

The 1st buzz bait on the market is the original Lunker Lure everyone else is trying to improve on it with marginal success.

A good buzz bait the blade spins fast as the lure moves slowly on top of the surface without sinking or doesn't roll over when retreived faster. Good components like a sharp strong hook, wire frame that doesn't get destroyed when you hook a bass. The Lunker Lure has flat rubber skirt, most of today's use silicone skirts, what matters is movement and color. Sqeeling buzz blades or clacking blades were once popular, never bought into that theory.

The majority census is MegaStrike Cavitron is the top of the line. I use a local made double buzz bait because it works for me, more splash at very slow speed and very strong wire frame or the original single Lunker Lure. When or if I buy another buzzer will try the Cavitron. I tend to use a Pompaduor surface lure more today then a buzzer.

Tom

fishing user avatarRoLo reply :

My first squeeze in buzzbaits was the original Lunker Lure. Today I toss a "Cavitron" by Megastrike.

I'm really surprised that no one else mentioned the Cavitron

That Pompadour (and the Pompadour Jr.) are killer baits and have been getting more and more work in my lineup. Lots of commotion, can be paused, and they offer something slightly different from what the fish have seen before.

fishing user avatariceintheveins reply :

Cavitrons are by far the best IMO.

fishing user avatarSwampLife reply :

I fish a buzz bait all year long.. I have one always tied on... I jumped on the cavitron bandwagon for a second bought 10 of them however, they don't produce in my waters like a original lunker lure, a humdinger, or the past two years  a 3/16oz black and blue strike king buzz king has out fished every other brand 5 to 1... My tournament partner was using them and out fishing me from the front and the back of the boat.. I switched and have been outfishing everyone who has fished with me or I fished with since... If they not hitting the black one throw white...
