I Lost My Favorite Crankbait 2025

fishing user avatarCatch and Grease reply :

I lost my favorite crankbait and I would go get another but.... They aren't made anymore :( It is stuck on a stump in about 8ft of water at the very bottom at a pond I fish in. Its been down there for about a week, I know the hooks would be bad by now but would the lure still be in good condition? I'm asking because I'm willing to go down there with goggles and get it but I don't want to waste my time if the lure would be trashed haha

fishing user avatarCrappiebasser reply :

It will be fine. Every fall when they draw our lake down I find tons of baits in my brush piles. A little dish soap and new hooks and they are good as new.

fishing user avatarjhoffman reply :

the lure is fine

fishing user avatarCatch and Grease reply :

All right thanks for the quick replys! Looks like im going swimming later haha

fishing user avatarsparky241 reply :

Goodluck to you

fishing user avatarHi Salenity reply :

Good luck and let us know if you recover her!

fishing user avatarMaster Bait'r reply :

Go git 'er!

Probably could have used some new hooks anyways!   :Victory:

fishing user avatarCatch and Grease reply :

If there was a way to get it without diving in I'd do it... I tried for like an hour trying to get it out when it was still on my line and finally gave up and cut my line in disgust... I didn't have my lure retriever with me when it happened. I might go try a see if I can find a really long pole and feel around for it before I jump in...

fishing user avatarAlonerankin2 reply :

I know you lost you're favorite bait.... Get over it!

It's not worth taking those type of risks to retrieve

The bait.... No shortage of well made crankbaits

At any rate, stay safe.

fishing user avatartomustang reply :

if you can't find it, there's always eBay

Agreed. Go with a buddy. Get that hook in you 8' down and you could get in trouble.

What crank was it?

fishing user avatarCatch and Grease reply :

I cant remember for the life of me what the brand was... I have some more at another persons house (different color) in a tackle box I forgot there ill look and figure out the brand because im going up there later the house is down the road from the pond. I remember looking them up before and not being able to find the company, I'm assuming it went out of business or something.

yeah the only thing I would get scared of is having one of these big treble hooks get caught on frabic or my flesh...

Edit: maybe it started with an H... I think it might have been something like Harley or hurley, but I might be confusing that with some other tackle company's products I own

fishing user avatarBrowns7213 reply :

It should be fine. I was fishing off my dock a few weeks ago and snagged my favorite lure on a stump as well. I cut my line and tied it around a boat tie on the dock and checked it every few days. About a week later I saw it floating in the water so I want to get something to retrieve it and when I came back it was gone. Sure enough as I started to pull the line in there was a catfish at the other end.

fishing user avatarColdSVT reply :

I lost my favorite jerbait yesterday to a beast of a hybrid striper...still about it lol.

Thats the first lure i have lost to a fish in over ten years. And it was the same reason again...i didnt retie after i got hung up.

fishing user avatarccummins reply :

I would not dive for a lost lure down here because I share my fishing holes with some ornery folks.....  That's about a 7' one in front of the weeds...

fishing user avatarCatch and Grease reply :

Well I didn't get it :/ I tried for awhile and then almost got bit by a snake so I called it quits... I came up out of the water and it was like 3 feet from me. It scared the living crap outta me. It rained not to long ago and the water was really muddy and hard to see through

I wouldn't call that almost getting bit... LOL. It was probably a water snake. Water snakes tend to do that often. They will just come up and look at you for a few seconds.

fishing user avatarCatch and Grease reply :

It was a bagleys crankbait by the way! Its just a color they don't make any more! Great crankbait company.

fishing user avatarCatch and Grease reply :

The crankbait I lost was a great color for dark water this is the same crank just another color... Do you guys think it would work in dark low visibility water any good?

fishing user avatarAlonerankin2 reply :

No... It won't work... Send it to me!

Seriously. I see know reason why it won't

That's a way deep diver for 8 feet but yea it will

Work the bottom for sure.

fishing user avatarbigbill reply :

What color was it? I can't look if I'm not sure of the color you lost.

My magnum soft sided is full of lures I haven't seen in more than a decade.

If I have one I'll send it to you.

fishing user avatarJrob78 reply :

Bagley crankbaits are balsa, the water has probably ruined it anyway.  Check Ebay, you can probably find a replacement.

fishing user avatarCatch and Grease reply :

Don't worry about it bigbill, I've been needing to buy new cranks anyways

fishing user avatarBluebasser86 reply :

Get a telescoping lure retriever, you won't lose baits you snag in less than 15' of water anymore :) I can't remember the last crankbait I lost that I could reach with mine. Plus I get dozens of other people's baits out of trees.

Yep lure retriever saved us about $40+ on Saturday and we were using cheap baits. They will pay for themselves multiple times. Not to mention the added confidence when it comes to throwing that pricey crank into gnarly cover.

fishing user avatarjhoffman reply :

Someone on here posted something the other day that stuck well. If a lure is worth less than say $6, if I cant get it easy, Im not shutting down a bite over $6.

Buy that same crank and send it to a custom painter.
