I've never been able to produce with jigs.. until tonight! Caught 5 in just over an hour and missed countless others due to my inexperience with a jig. I even caught one on TOP when they started busting... I reeled the jig really fast on top and whacked one... I love football jigs
I'm still trying to get there. I just can't produce fish with a jig... I don't know what the problem is..
well i always thought i was supposed to just twitch it like a worm... but TODAY i read an article bout it and tried just wiggling the rod tip so the jig just kinda crawls on the bottom and i twitch it once in a while... that worked REALLY well... give it a try
i love jigs there probably my go 2 bait....you guys should try the stikeking pro model..imo its the best
thats good news bud now only if i can get over my fear of jigs..ur going to have to show me what u did..master ;D lol
that's a goal of mine this summer also. last year crankbaits. this year jigs! i hope i can do it. i bought a lot of bps jigs at the sale. they are making my tacklebox really heavy....
While most people think a jig is hard to learn it's a simple as catching a couple to get the little light to go off
Yep, I agree with Catt, Once you catch a few on the jig, your life will change for the better. Don't leave home without'em. Heck, keep one in your pocket for a good luck charm.
I'm yet to catch a fish with a jig, but I'm determined to make it happen within the next month.
Congratulations!! I too started having decent success with jigs just this year. Now I want to throw 'em all the time:o)
December, Jan. and Feb. jigs are especially killer. Fewer bites but larger fish. Other months catch five on cranks and plastics then to a jig if in tournment.Gotta luv them.
Great job -- glad to hear that
I had my jig epiphany 4 years ago and I'm glad I did
Every year I try to master a new lure or technique
One of the most satisfying feelings, IMO, is working a jig through laydowns and brush, or over rocks, feeling it tick along...branch, branch, rock, weeds, branch, tap-tap BASS - set the hook and land a chunk ;D It makes you feel like a real pro.
On the other hand, one of the worst feelings is mistaking a branch for a tap-tap, setting the hook into a branch, losing a nice jig, and retying.
Great job. Another weapon in the arsenal.
It will soon be your go to bait! Wait until the weather warms and you can start swimming it. BAM! Good times.
Right on! I find a little comfort in seeing that I am not the only Jig virgin out there. I hooked up my first jib bass down 55' back on 01-22-08. My hands even with mitts were too frozen to seal the deal and I lost her.
It is Jigs or death for me this season. I will be putting away my beloved drop shot and trusty cranks until I score a hook up and landing of a bass this season. So far, 0 for 4 since January.
Gotta get this stinky monkey off my back! :-[
I don't fish with jigs much at all but the action was slow this morning on topwater; so I switched and side-armed a brown/red jig with a rootbeer colored chunk under a dock and felt a tap and the line went slack. I reeled like he!! and set the hook on a chunky 2.5 pounder.
It is great feeling catching a bass on a new lure.
Now you have a good excuse to go spend a couple hundred bucks on a good rod and reel combo for jig fishin'. ;D 8-) 8-) :
Jigs are one of my main goals this year. I am hoping to have an experience...like that. I never throw them, and hope to grow as an angler this year, as it relates to jig fishing. Congrats on your cool evening of jigging!
Alright, Nice to see I'm not alone on the jig train
I picked up some and tried them last two days. It was the only thing producing.
I did the football head 1/8 oz, hung'up a little for me, found out later they are more suitable for rock bottoms, I was in alot of down fall trees and grassy. so today I picked up the round head ones. did the Arkie jerky heads 1/8oz and what a differance. I liked the hook up, they have those wires that you just stick thru the bait, nice for me(beginner)
Picked up the renegade standup heads with weedgard, can't wait to try'em
yes the twitching action of the rod does help to attract the bass i was on the lake with my friend today and we were catching 4-7 lb bass with jigs alone. OH and by the way trey.........bass resource is really cool.....this is HUd by the way.....
Terrific, another jig convert. Keep up the good work. Won't be long and we will all be carrying a jig around in our pockets for good luck. I do have one hanging on my rear view mirror in my truck, gives me nice thoughts to start off my day and keeps my priorities in order as well. "Fish first and everything else second"
A little help

I was with MassHoleMike last week at Guntersville when he caught his first bass on a jig. 6lbs 12oz. I think he will use them again. LOL
Jigs are awesome.
Ronnie
yeah the jigs are still working amazingly well. whacked a 2, a 3, and two 7's on Sunday. will tell more about it later in the outing section when my friend sends me the pics
I missed what would have been my first jig fish this past weekend. He hit it on the initial fall and I wasn't paying close enough attention, lol.
:'(
Hey don't worry about it bud. I missed countless fish when first gettin into jig fishing, it takes some getting used to first. You'll be slammin' 'em on jigs in no time!
Congrats!!! Its a good feeling.
I just got mine yesterday...i was so happy. Thank goodness for protective males!!!
Yep, there's just someting about catching one on a jig that's different from the other baits.
It's called "JIG MAJIC", and now you've got it.
The jig is my new favorite lure after catching a 6 pounder on it
jig!!!! the ultimate bass lure
You know when you start out fishing a confidence bait and it doesn't work, you pick up the second string bait and throw it a while...well that was me tonight. I started out with a chart buzzbait and caught one, threw it another forty times and nothing. Switched to a Horny Toad and threw it twenty times and nothing.
Then I picked up a pre-rigged 1/2 ounce green/brown jig with a green chunk and caught a fish almost immediately bottom bouncing, then another hit it as soon as hit the water. The last fish of the night grabbed it while it was slow swimming on the bottom.
I am very pleased so far, it's been fun and a nice change from what has worked so well the last two months.
Jigmania, music to our ears
I'm on a jig high myself right now. I'd never caught one on a jig before till last year when I was swimming a Jewel Bait Spider jig back to the bank and one nailed it. Caught another doing roughly the same thing with a BooYah Boo Bug. This year I finally caught one INTENTIONALLY fishing in the traditional manner on one I'd put together myself using Dave's Tourney Tackle components and a NetBait Paca trailer. Now I'm all fired up on them and am going out today with just four rods with different styles of jigs to further acclimate myself. I'm finding I like recessed line tie jigs best, Dave's King Sling is awsome, Revenge baits has a nice one, Outkasts Pro jig is good, now I'm eyeballing the Terminator Pro's Secret Jig. Anyone have opinions on the Terminator?
Thanks,
Prog
What rod to ya'll use for jigs, especially with baits over 1/2 ounce?
I am using a Castaway medium-light with a fast action and with a 1/2 ounce jig the retrieve is not bad but casting is awful.
If I'm in thick cover flipping, I use a heavy action rod. If I'm on the outside of weedbeds or just open water, I go med. Heavy.
