Hey everybody, I'm fishin' for largemouth bass in some Florida ponds, what do you guys recommend for topwater lures, I found a "popper" lure and it seems to be working well, what else do you guys recommend (brands, colors, etc) THanks guys
Other than the popper in blk/chrome, blue/silver or tenn. shad, zoom toads in blk/yllw swirl, or buzz baits in white or green/chart work for me. You will find lots like the zooms, they are a fav of a few around here. Lol
Zara Spook, Chug Bug, Frogs-hollow and plastic.
Rage tail toad and the Cavitron buzzbait are my 2 favorite. The Cavitron is outstanding. If you haven't tried one I would HIGHLY recommend doing so. I haven't bought any other buzzbait in 4 years.

A spook, Spro popping frog 75, devils horse, plastic "buzzin" toad (horny toad/JDs/rage, etc), and a pop-R will cover most the bases for you down here.
Im going to basspro saturday and im going to see if they have the Cavitron buzzbait , and Zara Spook, and see if they will work in these little lake which i been catching some nice size bass. just need to fill up my tackel box with some great baits. Thanks! On 6/6/2012 at 1:39 AM, Packman89 said:Rage tail toad and the Cavitron buzzbait are my 2 favorite. The Cavitron is outstanding. If you haven't tried one I would HIGHLY recommend doing so. I'm a big fan of the cavitron also. The Zell pop is my favorite popper by a long shot. I'm starting to like the Spro popping frog more and more too. I doubt you'll find the Cavitron at Bass Pro, we have 2 close by and neither one has ever carried them.
1. Rapala Skitterpop #7
2. Rage Shad
3. Cavitron Buzzbait
4. Zara Spook
5. Spro Bronze eye
My fav is a big black Jitterbug.

That takes some guts to admit on a public forum. Lol
I don't think bps has Cavitron. I have only found them at dicks sporting goods or online.
Hey, what's wrong with a big, black Jitterbug??? It's my favorite too!
What's the deal with these Cavitrons, why are they everyone's favorite?
Mike
Cavitrons are the slowest retrieving single blade buzzbait out there and make a wonderful squeaking noise right out of the box.

Perfect Q & A.
Buy one. DO IT!
my lakes get extremely thick with veg so my favorite is the Spro tropical white popper. i've caught so many fish on it thats its hands down my favorite...or the standard tropical white spro jr...
HMMMMM
Look at that fat basstid-- I wasnt talking about the fish--LOL
There are many ways to catch bass at night. Big worms -Jigs- spinnerbaits with colorodo blades for more vibration. I try to stay away from trebble (trouble) hooks at night. One wrong move landing it and its a trip to the ER.. Go try different baits to become a more well rounded angler -No pun intended -
Experiment and let the fish tell you how they want the baits presented. Sometimes I cant buy a bite on a top water biut throw a worm and ya clean up.
I would have to say for me, in no particular order; Rebel pop-R, Smithwick Devils Horse, Zara Spook, Floating Rapala or Bagleys Bang-o-Lure and over grass or moss a Snagproof frog.
Spro Bronze Eye Frog is my current favorite.

I know several ponds near that are extremely thick in veg, I will have to give this a try. thanks.
Buzzbaits, poppers, and frogs.
My favorite is a black buzzbait at night and a popper in the morning and evening.
For a popper, I prefer the Yellow Magic or the Zel-pop. Both are outstanding.
i guess ill go to bass pro and look at the cavitrons and zara spook and the zell pop and any idea how much the cavitrons are at dicks?

Is your picture one of those lakes? If so, that's crazy, never seen so much!

ya its from a lake here i was on but thats relatively minor compared, pads are easy street to fish. what we do have big time is underwater forests of emergent veg that mats the top of the water covering huge areas, like coon tail and milfoil etc...where you need a push pole to go over it, its super dense and thick...you have to frog it or punch it pretty much...not to mention filamentous algae on everything and on top of the water...its sloposaurus land kinda stuff lol
buzzfrog
hollowbelly frog
Heddon Torpedo, Rico, and LC T-Splash have produced a lot for me in Florida ponds in addition to the baits mentioned above...
Forgot the trick worm and kuttail worm worked on the surface.
