So I was set on getting a Shimano Ci4+FA and a Stradic FJ for my two 7' Cabelas Tournament ZX. However, there are a lot of good sales going on right now.
I was wondering if I should get another spinning reel that is normally in the $180-$230 range for sale for less. Anyone have any ideas?
Cabela's verano spinning reel on sale for 129.99. Its top of the line Daiwa reel for great price.
Why not just get the CI4+ on sale?

Top of the line is a stretch. I had more problems with that reel than it was worth. Returned it after the first outing and ended up with a Ci4+ myself.

Haven't seen it on sale anywhere.

Anytime I have called in an order at TW, they've honored the 15% off on Shimano. A lot of the other sites will do the same.
I love my ci4+... Amazing reel... I think American legacy has it on sale

It wasn't user error at all. It has bushings in the line roller, which leads to excess twist. It's not overly smooth, and there's a lack of torque because it doesn't have a threaded handle. It was a shame too because it looked good on my Tatula rod.

I never had that problem so it has to be a bad batch, I have Daiwa's that outlasted stradic's. I use them on saltwater and freshwater, but some people have their preference.
The Stratic CI4,FA 2500 is at the top end of your budget, check with Ron at Valley Sports

Not sure why everything is compared to a Stradic, but ok. I haven't been paid to use any reels yet, so I use ALL brands. I have Daiwa, Shimano, Abu, Pflueger, and whatever else you can think of. I have found that Daiwa and Shimano have lasted the longest, but Shimano has had the best line management for me. I use 8lb fluoro on all of my 2500 sized spinning reels, so there's nothing changed in that respect. The Verano is just not as good as other reels I've used in that price range, and certainly not as good as the Stradic FJ or CI4FA.

lol i just believe that stradic FJ is the best spinning reel shimano makes. (In that price range) but the verano reel is a Daiwa reel. but to be honest, I am a Quantum/penn freak. i only use reels that never let me down. so those are the only brands i use
tacklecenter has the stradic ci4+ and the pflueger supreme XT for 20% off with coupon code memorialday2014. there's only one stradic left, however, and it is the 1000-size. i've owned the stradic in the 2500-size and the pflueger patriarch XT in the 9530-size and both are excellent reels. i also have the cabelas verano in the 2000-size...i've only taken it out once so far but i used it the vast majority of the 9 hours i was on the water and it performed like a champ. mine is very smooth and i haven't experienced any line twisting issues.
My vote is for the stradic. no problems with line twist for me.
Cabelas ,,,,,,,better or more durable than a Stradic,,,,,,,,,,,,,,Hmmm,,,,,,another first, like I've said before, this is the kind of information we can only pickup on the internet!!!!oh well??
I would suggest the Stradic, but only been using them for the past 20 or so years, for some reason mine work when most other models have problems. I was never a fan of the original Ci4, but the FJ and the Ci4+ would be on the top of my list if I was looking for a new Spinning reel, I think they are the best bang for your buck, and the FJ can be had off sale for $140.00 well below advertised retail, the Ci4+ is still new enough and in high enough demand they are still over $200.00 usually,,,,if you can find them in stock,,,,,a problem you probably will never have if you are after the Cabelas!!!!

The Stradic is designed engineered and manufactured by Shimano, for more years than most any other spinning reel at its price than any other, I would say they got something right,,,,,and I believe their popularity has always been at or near #1, not many can say that for over 20 years runn'n
Ha nvm

What problems? I have one but haven't used it yet. It's a little tight but I expect it will loosen up after a years use.

A bb in the roller has nothing to do with line twist. A bushing is much more durable especially in saltwater. Even more so when you take into account the minute size of the bb and being in a continuous wet state when in use. Line twist cannot be removed ever, it can't be on a spinning reel, its the nature of the beast, a law of physics!
I'm just wondering where the op said he wanted to fish saltwater cause I must have missed it.. How bout you guys take your bs argument out of this thread ... The stradic ci4 is one of the best reels out right now..end of story.. And it will prob be amazing for the OP...
It's a good thing this is a bass fishing forum that relates to freshwater bass fishing and not saltwater fishing and the gear used...
Which one of you guys is winning the special olympics today...
Oh my,,,,,,this thread just gets deeper and deeper,,,,,,
