Anyone here have any opinions about Pinnacle Reels? I can get a Sentara II for $69 new in box. Would it be an ok reel?

Tackle tour did a pretty extensive write up on their line within the past year and they were impressed with what you got for the price. I believe they're making the stuff for BPS and some of Cabelas.

You are (or were) a fan of BPS branded stuff. Pinnacle makes Bass Pro branded reels, including the Johnny Morris reels. If you like BPS reels, you'll like Pinnacle. I've never heard anything bad about them (except that they weren't some else's favorite brand).

I've had good luck with Pinnacle reels over the past few years. Specifically with the Pinnacle Matrix reels (the first generation Matrix w/ 10BB's) Those reels were great. Cast a mile, silky smooth drag, easy to access brakes, etc...excellent reel for the money.

Pinnacle doesn't make the Johnny Morris line of reels. We had this discussion a while back. If I could find the post I would link it.

Pinnacle/Silstar does make BPS reels, including Johnny Morris reels. Pinnacle is the OEM manufacturer of reels for the largest online retailer of fishing equipment - BPS.
And speaking of Pinnacle, their new Matrix II looks like it would be a killer reel for cranking:

As for who makes BPS reels. The Johnny Morris Elite and Signature reels are NOT made by Pinnacle. I did research on it awhile back, and I can't find that darn post. I've looked everywhere, but can't find the post I made about my findings.
Anyway, I spoke to a lady in the marketing department and in the wholesale department. Both told me the exact same thing. All BPS reels are made by the same manufacturer that makes Shimano, Abu Garcia, and Pflueger. They are manufactured under the same company, different facilities, and by each Brand's specifications.
Furthermore, the Johnny Morris Elite reel has a distinct characteristic that no Pinnacle has. The 'clicking' adjustable braking system is more like the Abu Garcia Revo series than any other reel. The exact same 'clicks' as the Revo STX which means they use the same braking system.
I've done my research on this, because I am very curious as to where I spend my money. In the line of BPS reels rumor does have these reels as being made by various manufacturers. The fact of the matter is that nearly 95% of these claims are made by speculation, and are false. None of them are made or based on actual research of the matter.

I have a pinnacle solene and it was pretty good for the 55 bucks i spent on it. However, now it is not working as smooth anymore and i've only had it for like 3-4 months and i rinse it out and everything after using it. I'm not sure why but its making squeaky sounds and anti-reverse seems to fail at times now and then

Sorry, with all due respect. I think you are wrong on this. Pinnacle makes BPS and Browning reels and has been for years.
When this topic came up on another forum, some folks far more "in the know" than you or I stated that that the superficial resemblence between Pinnacle and BPS is not coincidental. BPS has confidentiality agreement with it's OEM manufacturer(s), who compete with BPS reels under it's own name - Pinnacle. BPS is not going to tell you who makes their reels. But Pinnacle is known as the OEM manufacturer of store-branded reels for the largest outdoor e-tailer. That's BPS. Tackle Tour confirmed this in a Pinnacle line-up review.
AFAIK, Shimano, Abu Garcia and Pflueger have no affiliation - except that Pflueger is owned by Shakespeare, and Abu Garcia is owned by Pure Fising. Shakespeare and Pure Fishing are owned by Jarden.

Pinnacle does not make BPS reels !!! I just got off the phone with BPS again. This time I got a big "NO" when I asked if Pinnacle makes BPS reels. The truth of the matter is BPS changes manufacturers from year to year depending on their needs.
I'm not going to argue this anymore. Until you can come up with some undeniable proof that Pinnacle makes BPS reels then this discussion is like kicking a dead horse.

Pinnacle makes BPS reels, including the Johnny Morris reels. That's one of the reason you won't find Pinnacle in BPS stores. Don't you find it odd that Pinnacle makes a whole line of reels, but that line is absent from BPS stores (you can buy Pinnacle at Cabelas 'cuz Daiwa mostly makes their reels)? That's because they don't compete with their own brand label against their own reels made under a store brand.

You have been seriously mis-informed.
No one company makes ABU, shimano and Pflueger reels. They are made by seperate entities.
secondly, While Bass Pro Shops has had a long history of selling BPS exclusive Garcia reels over the years, BPS branded reels have NEVER been a garcia product nor designed like one. The only retailer that has a Revo type reel being sold in house is Cabelas but the reel is branded a Garcia though the model is available as a Cabelas only and can also be found in overseas markets in Japan.
I have disassembled quite a few BPS reels over the years and I can assure you that neither Shimano nor Garcia reels were in the guts of those reels.
Pflueger, yes in a few instances.

As of 2007, there are three reel companies with dual centrifugal and magnetic cast control: Pinnacle, BPS brands (including Browning) and Pflueger. The profiles, side plate release and other key areas are identical in various models of these reels. All these reels are made in Korea. The internal components are likely spec'd differently, but it is obvious that these are all made by the same manufacturer. It is a known fact that BPS and Pfueger do not own any reel manufacturing facilities.
No one you talk to at BPS, or for that matter Pflueger, is going to tell you who makes their reels. You have to figure out for your self based on the best evidence you can uncover. Also, to the best of my knowledge, Shimano makes their reels in their own factories and does not manufacture for any one else any longer. Daiwa also manufactures their own reels, but does manufacture store brands or special models for certain large retailers (Cabela's and Dick's for sure). Abu also manufactures special models for large retailers. Abu still manufactures the round reels in Sweden, but contracts with a Korean manufacturer for the low profile reels.

AFAIK, Abu doesn't make OEM reels for anyone. There are some Abu brand reels that are carried exclusively by some retailers - for instance the C5 and the REVO SC carried by Cabelas. But I don't think Abu makes reels for anyone other than themselves.
There are some Abu look-a-likes sold by BPS, but these are made by Pinnacle/Silstar, too.

Have three Pinnacle 10 bearing reels. Had four but one went swimming. Used them now for four years baitcasting and spinner baits. Not a problem at all with them. For $64.95 plus tax I will but them again. Use a Shimano Curado for top water and Shimano Castaic for flippin.

I got it straight from the "Horse's Mouth", so to speak, and Pinnacle Does Not make BPS reels. They did several years ago, but BPS now sources their reel contracts out to various companies, and none of them are Pinnacle.
This came from the head of Contractor sales at Silstar / Pinnacle, and the same thing was told to me at BPS from their design department.
So, don't just take my word for it. Give Pinnacle a call at 803-794-8521, and worm your way through their transfers until you get the right person. Next call BPS at 417-873-5000. By the way .... both company reps laughed when I mentioned a 'secretive trade agreement'.
On another note, I did pick up a Pinnacle Sentara II, and I really love it. The reel I really want, the new pinnacle Vision XLT, won't be available until January. That baby has 13 ball bearings, and is priced under $120 by companies other than the Pinnacle website.

Pinnacle also makes the Cabelas Tournament ZX line and sells their regular Branded line through both the Cabelas Catalogs and their site. One of the ways to bosst sales is to compete against yourself. Automakers have done this for years.

I am a fan of my pinnacle reel (Extant HS Metal baitcaster) and would happily buy another. I LOVE the look of the new Vision XLT and will be anxious to read a review or two if they ever make it into stores.
