Looking for a new line 2024

fishing user avatarjbo225 reply :

looking for a line for an all around application (except top water) going on one of my lews opinions on a line mono, copoly, braid, fluro and brand thanks

also the poundage 15?

fishing user avatarFishin' Fool reply :

It really depends on how your fishing. Different types of lines will have different strengths/weaknesses. Fluorocarbon is a great line and I'm not opposed to straight fluoro. Some like braid with fluoro. Some applications call for straight braid.

fishing user avatarburrows reply :

OK I got to you in time, there will be many opinions on this one. Get plineCX premium. Great line its a fluorocarbon coated copoly. Super thin diameter super strong little memory. Don't get cxx unless your wanting to get threw heavy cover, punching or frogging!

fishing user avatarjbo225 reply :

thanks man I was looking into the cx also the other p-line copoly

fishing user avatarburrows reply :

Stick with the CX premium.... I wouldn't recommend personally the cxx its got way to much memory.

fishing user avatarBruce424 reply :

Check out mccoy extra clear

fishing user avatarjbo225 reply :

ive heard the cxx has a lot of memory, ive heard good things about the McCoy mean green

fishing user avatarLunkerFisher reply :

i have a few suggestions for you to try:

Mono: 15lb big game

Fluoro: Sniper

or 40lb power pro and use leaders as needed.

fishing user avatarBig Bait Fishing reply :

the best copoly line i've used and use now on my casting rod , spinning rod , and swimbait rod is Gamma co-poly (polyflex) i use the moss green . the line is super strong and has a lot less stiffness than CXX  and has minimal stretch . i use 8 lb. on my casting rod , 4 lb. on my spinning rod , and 25 lb. on my swimbait rod .....

fishing user avatarGoCougs14 reply :

I use 12lb yo zuri hybrid and I love it, but then again its the only copolymer that I have experience with, so I dont have anything to compare it against. No reason to try any other co poly.

I've not used CX or CXX but I have used/use Floroclear
and do like it a lot. However, since my stash of Yo-zuri
hybrid is far more extensive, I use that most of the time,
and all of it is as leader only. I use braided mainline.

10# and 15# spinning, and 20# casting.

Braid of choice is Power Pro SuperSlick 8 (15#), the others
are regular Power Pro. All in Yellow coloration.

Just my personal preference.....

fishing user avatarBrandon Moss reply :

I've just started testing some Spiderwire Stealth. It feel super smooth compared to PowerPro.  I've used CX and was severely let down.  Line snapped on two hook sets.  For fluoro, I will never use another like except for Sunline Sniper.  I LOVE that stuff.  Just my .02.

fishing user avatarburrows reply :

Funny I've never had an issue in the five plus years I've been using it I maybe broke off two three fish at the most.

fishing user avatarnew2BC4bass reply :

I had 8# CX break down in the spool....BUT....it was the line I used on my first baitcast reel.  As such I feel the break was most likely caused by previous backlashes.  BTW, it didn't break on a hook set.  Made a cast and the lure kept flying.  Apparently line was already broke.

I am fond of mono or co-polymers for the majority of my rods.

Bought some AN40 at a friend's suggestion  Like it.  Last year he tried Spiderwire's new Ultimate Mono and says it is the best mono he has ever used.   I also use a lot of Siege.

A local friend uses 15# CXX almost exclusively on his baitcast rods.  It and Big Game are very good abrasive resistant lines.  As such they have a bit more memory than some lines.  I have to assume you are asking about lines for a baitcast reel given the poundage you mentioned.  Don't know how much experience you have with baitcast reels, but if just learning I would suggest a softer line such as Trilene XL and Sufix Elite.  I prefer 12# on MH rods.

fishing user avatarww2farmer reply :

I use braid as mainline on all my reels 100% of the time.................yes even for treble hooked baits.

fishing user avatarGlenn reply :

For a great all-purpose line, Seaguar Abrazx is awesome.  That's what I use, and love it.  I can throw it into cover, weeds, or open water with a variety of baits and techniques.  I use 15lb on a med-heavy rod for all my general purpose applications.

You didn't mention budget, but if it's within your means, then go with Tatsu.  Absolutely THE best fluorocarbon in my opinion.  It's very supple with no memory.  Quite durable too.  And I have yet to have a knot fail on it.  Paired with the sensitivity and low visibility, and it can't be beat.

However, if fluorocarbon is not within your budget, then PlineCX Premium is about the best bang for tight budgets.  I used it for years without too many complaints.  Just remember to keep checking your line, and retie often.

fishing user avatarPitchinJigz reply :

16lb Sunline FC Sniper

fishing user avatarjbo225 reply :

should have mentioned some things yes it will be going on baitcast and price point I don't want to spend a arm and a leg and by the way I do have yo zuri spooled on most of my baitcast reels I want something more readily available

so from my understanding p-line cx is one of the more common better lines and all around good line.

so im either leaning towards the pline cx, McCoy mean green,

fishing user avatarSam reply :

Hit BPS in Ashland and get their BPS XPS fluorocarbon line. Made by Seaguar.

A strong mono can be secured via Big Game in the saltwater section of the store.

You can also get BPS Excel for your mono needs, too.

fishing user avatarjbo225 reply :

Now how about the poundage of line #12 or #15

fishing user avatarburrows reply :

I use 12 the majority of the time my heavier applications i use 15 for the fishing I do I'm good with that, i don't usually go any higher.

Excellent line.

fishing user avatarmbtharp1 reply :

If you're looking for something affordable, try p-line c21 copolymer. It's 8.99 for an 1100 yard spool of 15lb, Low memory and strong.

fishing user avatarBluebasser86 reply :

15lb Big Game is about $7 for a 1/4lb spool everywhere around here, and you can find it everywhere.

fishing user avatarrobster80 reply :

all i pretty much use now is Mccoy copolymer.  hasnt let me down.  not expensive, strong, low memory, casts great. fixing to order a couple more spools myself

fishing user avatar0119 reply :

Theres a thread about over complicating tackle and simplifying things for more success.  I did that with line a while ago.  Trilene Big Game for everything. Bought in bulk and changed when needed, which isn't as often as braid lovers claim it is.  12lb., 15lb. and 20lb. depending on application. It has been a system that has worked out well for me, I wish I could do it that easily with lures.

fishing user avatarMike L reply :

For an "all around" line to be used for most applications that you asked for, I'd suggest Yo Zuri in the pound test that best fits the conditions you fish in the most.

Mike

fishing user avatarWIGuide reply :

My best all around line is Berkley 100% Fluoro. I use 12 lb test for just about everything on my bait casters other than flip&pitch/punchin'/froggin'.
