I just pulled the trigger on a dx702sf and now need to start looking at what spinning reel I want to mount on it. I don't want to spend more than 200. I'm going to probably put 6-8lb flouro on it. Thanks guys!
Save $100 and pick up the Pflueger Supreme. Great reel, very light, fast.
I'm curious what the XT version gets you over the regular Supreme....Can't go wrong with either.
I've heard good things about the Abu Soron STX also.
Most Daiwa's are a safe bet, and another way to save some $$.
TW has a SOL for $209. Here:http://www.***.com/catpage-RLSDAIWA.html

Or get a Shimano Symetre. Great reel for $100.

I just don't care for Pflueger. Something about the name just makes me want to avoid it.

Interesting statement.
Stradic C14 AT 200.00

Everyone I know that has purchased the new
Stradic 2500CI4 is impressed. My initial reaction
is that the reel seems comparable to the Stella
2500FD at about 1/3 the cost!

8-)
I have the Shimano Sahara and it's a very good reel and I also have the New(as of last year) Quantum Catalyst PTI-B20. I haven't fished the Quantum the the Sahara held it's own for a year of fishing and is a great reel in the under $100 range. The Symetre is also a great value as well. My brother has the Soron and loves it

I think this is the reel I'm leaning towards. Just wondering if there were any others out there that would be a great match for the Champion Extreme.
For less than 200 a stradic fi is a winner, better handle than the c-14 imo. Since I bought my first supreme, I now have 3, 2 fresh 1 saltwater, my stradic fi collects dust and I think the stradic is terrific, that says how I feel about the supreme, no advantage to the xt.
I don't think you need to spend more than a 100 for a freshwater spinning reel, spend more and you are the fish being reeled in.

I like you're thinking. It's just for a nice 300 dollar rod I feel like I need to mount something good on it. I wish those Supreme's didn't have Pflueger across it in big letters. I think it's more of a problem with the P and F. They just shouldn't go together like that. And the whole ueg. I guess I'll have to go to the local tackle shop and check some out to see what I like.

Nick , you're just flat-out funny.
3 spinning reel i own and i love them
shimano saros-120
johnny morris reel -100
diawa exceller-70-had for 3 years without lubing still runs great
I have a few spinning reels in my arsenal that I only use about 25% of the time. I haven't been too impressed with Shimano and especially Quantum's KVD spinning reels under $100. Shimano Symetres and Pflueger Presidents are great reels! For the money though, I'd go with BPS Johnny Morris line. I just bought one and I can feel a huge difference in quality and the price is under $70. Good luck!
Somebody mentioned the ABU Soron STX a bit earlier in this thread. Anybody have one?? Your thoughts??

I'm still laughin........Jerry Seinfeld would be proud Nick. ;D
BTW, My vote is also for the Stradic.

Yep! Nice lightweight reel in that price range!
edited - the one in the flea market sold...
QuoteQuoteStradic CI4Yep! I just put a brand new one up in the flea market that's in your price range!!
Haha figures. I'm on a part time job working almost 15 hours a week and still have gas and everything else to pay for so it'll be about a month before I can put enough money to the side for one now since I just dropped almost 300 on that rod. If you put that up earlier I would've bought that first and got the rod later! I'm thinking you should keep it for about a month and let the box collect a little dust then I'll take it off your hands! ;D
Edit: Scratch that Valentines Day is around the corner. : Make that 2 months.

As far as spinning reels,Daiwa leads the pack. Line management alone is enough reason to go with a Daiwa.

I will be checking out some Daiwas too. I have been curious about some of the higher end Daiwas. I've used lower end ones and for the money were great reels. I guess I'll just have to see which one feels the best maybe the local little shop will let me mount a couple on my new baby.
I am a fan of the Stradics. It is everything I would want in a reel. Loved the feel of the Sol, but sold them both and picked up Stradic MgFB. It didn't pick up enough line for me and I figured I could make a few bucks by selling them and getting the Stradic.
Shimano Stradic 2500fi is one of the finest reels I have ever owned. Silent, smooth as butter, great grips and drag. OY YA on E-bay has these reels brand new shipped for 127$ you will not be disappointed if this is what you choose.
I'll put in my two cents worth about the Johnny Morris spinning reels. I have two, and will not own another. They had them on sale for 63.82 recently, and there is a reason for that.
Here's my experience with them. First, the "titanium deposit" finish peeled off the part of the bail that holds the roller.
In addition, the finish on the body of the reel blistered like it had been underwater for years.
They replaced it.
The reel is smooth to crank, but when jigging or even twitching drop shot rigs, the anti-reverse is not instant as they claim. There is play in both of them, and any type of jerking or twitching produces an annoying click, click, click. Never happens with my Saros reels.
But the worst trait of the reel, that also never happens with the Saros, is that from time to time, when the bail is closed, the line will take a wrap around the roller section.
It is smooth, and the drag is fine, but the other characteristics are unacceptable.
Just bought two new Saros to replace them.
I think you will be happiest in the long run with the Daiwa, either a Sol or a fuego. Daiwa reels seem to last longer than shimano for me, in the spinning reel category. i've not owned the new Stradic though, and it seems like everyone loves them. if you go with either i'm sure you will be happy with your choice.
The Daiwa Tierra is a great value at $130 or less. Smooth & great line management. Since you are looking at using flouro, you may want to consider reels with a wider spool. The Tierra (and other Daiwas) has a spool that is wider than the Stradic, without being extremely wide like the BPS reels. Due to the light weight of the FLOOGER Supreme, you might be able to go up to a larger size to get more width (and potentially a lot of unnecessary capacity).
There is a BPS Exclusive Daiwa TD pro for $110, that comes with the air bail, and other nice features, at a good price. Might be worth looking at.
