Indoor Rod Storage 2025

fishing user avatarBigTerp reply :

Looking for something to store and keep my rods organized indoors. I have some hanging racks in my shed, but I'm running out of room out there and want to get my rods inside anyway. The hanging racks in my shed are the generic Rapala plastic type holders and I don't like them. There isn't enough room between rods to keep the reels from hitting each other and making it a pain to put them away and take them down without a rod or two falling out of the holder. Any suggestions from you guys? I'm thinking of a ceiling mount but am not opposed to a floor based vertical rack. All my rods are 7' or less. A few spinning bass rods/reels and a few catfish rods with larger Abu 5500 round reels. So I'd like to have room for the larger rods/reels as well.

KastKing Rack

fishing user avatarChoporoz reply :

I have a wood rack in the style of the KastKing mentioned by @J Francho.  That is, it stores (8, I think) rods vertical on each side of the unit.  It was a gift, and I'm unsure of the model, but it looks a lot like the F&S one at Dicks.  If you go this route, try to put hands on one.  The KK model looks very sturdy.  Mine blows -- slots too close together, casters come off when you look at it wrong, wobbly, .....it is functional, but barely.

fishing user avatarJ Francho reply :

Glenn really likes the KK rack he got.  I think he picked up a couple more he liked them so much.  I have one in a box.... I have that F&S one for 16 rods, and it can be a little iffy fitting bigger reels, but the rack is stable.  I did not attach the wheels on mine.

fishing user avatarfishnkamp reply :

I use a rod rack from Field and Stream. I got it at Dicks. It holds 16 rods. Here is a picture from Dicks website.

Check out Organized Fishing options. They have a lot in their website and Tackle Warehouse sells a few of their racks. A couple of there options have a track system that makes the clips adjustable to accommodate different size rigs. But the number of rods/combos they say they hold is generous and can only be achieved if you’re storing rods with no reels mounted. If storing standard freshwater outfits cut the number in half.

fishing user avatarBigTerp reply :

Thanks for the replies!!! Some good options.

fishing user avatarThe Fisher reply :

I use this one from Academy. They also have one for 24 rods https://www.academy.com/shop/pdp/rush-creek-16-rod-round-rack#repChildCatid=3189556

The Kastking one is crazy sturdy.  It takes a ton of force to even get it to lean a little and it holds the rods really securely, enough so that I want to stick mine on wheels so I can get to the back more easily.

fishing user avatarDaveT63 reply :

I agree with all the comments on the KastKing rack.  The only down side is that it doesn't hold as many as advertised if you have reels on the rods.  But still good rack for the money.

fishing user avatarBass_Fishing_Socal reply :

Yup kastking is the way to go, sturdy and easy to install, very light weight too.

fishing user avatarDroneFisher reply :

ICAST best of show winner for a reason. Love that rack. I have three of them but my favorite, and the easiest one, is the largest one. I agree, having wheels would be the nuts.

fishing user avatarTOXIC reply :

I'm cheap!!  Now that that's out of the way, I use racks I got for free when a golf store was going out of business.  The racks used to hold individual golf clubs so they are sturdy and have green felt anywhere a rod (or Club) contacts the wood.

fishing user avatar1201vilbig reply :

Based on comments here, I bought the KK and couldn't be happier. But B4 that, I used a 4 X 4 that I drilled 2.5" holes in & stood the rods up. I added a small 2 X 3 on each end as a stabilizing outrigger.

fishing user avatarLucky Craft Man reply :

I just built my own.  Nothing I saw fit my needs, so off to the Hardware Store I went and a few 2x4's, screws, and a little groove cutting later, I had what I needed.  It's not the prettiest rod holder in the world, but it functions perfectly.

KastKing Rack

Is it just me, or is every other rod on that 24 rod rack missing a reel?

You are correct. It will hold 24 "rods" but not 24 with reels attached.

You might have a small problem haha.

If you don't want any thing fancy but cheap and easy, this how I made my temp rod holder when I came back from any fishing trip. You can make it to hold as many rod according to your length of space.

Yeah he does, he’s outta room for more rods! Time to expand.

I did expand into the rafters.  All my fly rods reside there.

A good solution to "I want longer rods but my ceilings are too low".

Having the space up into the joists helps.  I can fit a rod up to 7'9" vertically in there.  However, I have several rods that are over 7'9", so I added bike hooks on the joists above the rack and lay the longer rods in there.  I am not a fan of horizontal rod storage, but these rods are pretty stout and with three bike hooks, there is no sagging or deflection of the rods while in the hooks and they are out of the way when I pull the vertical rods out of the rack.

fishing user avatarfishwizzard reply :

I have thought about horizontal storage for some of my less-used rods, but have yet to do it.  I am getting to the point where I can accept that collecting rods and reels is a reasonable accessory hobby to actual fishing, so I need to work out better storage in my tiny little house.

fishing user avatarburrows reply :

Rods and reels must be kept in the refrigerator after opening.

I'm going to make a PVC rod holder for my garage.

Just not sure which one a quick google search gives a few good ideas and different types.
