Lews Rods/reels? 2025

I was at janns netcraft today and I noticed the lews rod and reels and I picked them up and played with them some. The reels feel very solidly built and the rods were very light, I am thinking about giving them a shot here in my next purchase, has anybody here has success or negative takes on them or has used them and can offer some sort of review?

There have been many reviews on the new Lew's reels. Do a search and see what you find.

In short, there hasn't been much, if any, negative talk. I own two of'em.

i have had experience with the Lews speed spool! They feel very nice in the store, but once on a rod and casting it they totally suck. It was soo much work to cast them and it felt like the line didnt want to come off !! i will probably stick with my citica and my curado! Also i work in a Tackle store so i deal with these things on a daily basis!

do you still like them and would you buy more? you have them mounted on nrx rods? i was looking at some of the lews rods as well and they feel very light and have micro guides on them also balance pretty well with the lews tournament pro reel.

I've seen enough mixed reviews on the Lews reels to be hesitant, especially with so many tried and true options at the same or lower price.

Yes, I have both of them mounted on NRX 893 model rods and they balance perfectly. I was using them earlier tonight in a tournament. I put'em down and picked up my Shimano Chronarch 50mg and 7.5' GLX Senko rod and made my mind up that I will be moving the Chronarch to 2nd string, or retiring it to the shelf, and buying another Lews.

I don't have a clue on what "Fishinkeebs" is talking about when he says they suck.

I have used my Tournament series reel for a month now and really pounded it last week. I like this reel as well as my Revo Premiers. I ordered a second Lews but they are back ordered. So far so good.

Well I think I am gonna try one out and pair it with one of the new lews rods as well, I live right near janns netcraft and they have both in stock.

I've been fishing a lews baitcaster this year, paired with a Abu vendetta rod. Loving the lews reel, and want another one.

I've got 4 of the Lew's reels, 2 speed spools, 1 tournament, and 1 tournament pro. So far I have nothing but good things to say about them! I have heard some really bad things about their customer service, so I wanted to share my experience with them. I've had zero problems with their reels, but since I use left handed reels, I wanted to know if I can get some of the longer 95mm cranking handles for my reels. I sent an email to their customer service on saturday and got a message back today. Mr. Rick Collins answered all of my questions that I had(including that you can't make the normal speed spool's drag star and tension knob clik and sound like the others) and also gave me a lot of information about the reels. Here is his reply:

Hi Travis-

I’m glad you are excited about our reels.

You aren’t the only person interested in different gear ratios for left handed reels. We are tallying the interest to see if it is feasible to make them available. Minimum production quantities can sometimes keep great ideas from becoming a sensation. I’ve added you to the tally, and we’ll see if we can make it happen. I’m on your side.

95mm handles are available. We sell them as kits. Kits include the handle, nut, nut retainer and screw for $24.95 each for either the Speed Spool or Tournament Series Bait Cast Reels. Freight is included. Another option is to order just the 95mm handle bars with paddle shafts for either the SS or TS reel for $$7.00. You would reuse the screw caps, screws, bearings and paddles from your exiting handles.

Additional parts are available for the reels directly from us. A number of the parts interchange between the reel models; however the star drag and spool tension adjustment knobs have limited interchangeability, especially between the SS series reels and the others. Unfortunately, neither of the clicker systems in these two parts interchanges with the SS reels. The tension knob assembly comes close, but will not full tighten for heavier weight lures. There are a number of variables that prevent the clicking star drag assembly used on the TS, TP and TL reels from interchanging onto the SS series reels..

So needless to say, I am really pleased with Lew's CS after this email from them. I just hope that I am as pleased with their CS if I have any problems with their reels. I also sent Mr. Collins a reply asking about their carbon fiber handles. I will let you know what his reply is.

We also sell the carbon fiber kits. They are $39.95 ea, freight included. Carbon fiber handle bars with paddle posts are available but at $32.00 rather expensive in comparison to the kit.

We can accept orders just about any way you have ease and comfort … phone, Fax, snail mail, or e-mail and accept VISA, MC, Discover, AMX, check, cash, money order, etc. We just say no to COD’s. If you elect to use a credit or debit card, we will need the card number, exp date and the 3 or 4 digit security code in order to process your payment. I always caution people not to send credit card info via e-mail. You can give us your order via e-mail and we will send a total and invoice number back. Then, a phone call with your credit card info usually works best.

Got my second Tournament Pro today. My local dealer, who special ordered them for me, has seen enough and will be adding Lews to their inventory. I haven't had any experience with the lower priced models but this model has performed very well so far.

I have a tournament and a tournament pro now. Being in MN I haven't fished them yet, but messing with them in the yard has impressed me so far. I have high hopes for them so we'll see.

All good news to me and makes my purchase easier. I am still debating on what rod to get for it, but I am leaning toward some Dobyns champions extremes.

I just bought a Tournament Pro the other day. Very impressed with it so far. Curious though, is the star drag supposed to click? Because mine doesn't.

I think all drag and tension knobs should click except for the basic Speed Spool Model. I have 2 of the normal speed spools, a tournament and a tournament pro, so far I am still really impressed with all of them.

So your Tournament Pro's drag clicks? My tension knob clicks, drag doesn't.

I live just outside of Toledo myself. with that said if you are in the market for Lews products go up one more exit on 475 and go to Gander Mountain, their prices are cheaper than Janns when it comes to rods and reels. I bought a Mach 2 spinning rod at GM after being talked into them at Janns

I have four Lew's reels, two speed spool & speed spool M&B

on TP rods. They're on there second year of a lot of use with out a single issue what so ever.

I'm getting ready to go for number five.
