fishing user avatarjohn 07 reply :

Its alsmost my dads birthday soon and thinking about getting him either the Revo STX or the Shimano Curado. Both same in price. What do you guys think. Im slightyly leaning towards the STX because of the amazing 10+1 bearing system. Both are amazing reels. Im stuck!!!

fishing user avatar5bass reply :

Before the Shimano posse gets here,I say get the Revo STX.....but I'm sure he'll be happy with either one.

Either will make him happy. If you want to make him really happy buy him an Ardent with 3 year warranty. Great reel, great warranty....................Al

Just out of curiosity, why do you think that?  Feel free to PM if you don't want the masses to see it ;)

fishing user avatarroadwarrior reply :

The posse has arrived!

I'm sure your dad will be very pleased with whatever reel you decide to get him.

I have had bad experience with Garcia and have only fished Shimano for the past ten years or so. I am a Shimano guy and admit to being very biased and closed minded.

BTW, all the Shimano reels I have ever owned are still in use, have never been modified or repaired.

Don't worry 5, I won't tell anyone what you bought from me. ;) ;D  ;D

I now fish almost exclusively Shimano reels, but I have had a several ABUs over the years and they were all great reels. It's a matter of taste, grab the one you think he will like best.

I hear ya Ronnie, but he's talking about the NEW Curados. We aint talkin about the green (good) ones.

fishing user avatarTriton9 reply :

definitely the shimano curado, i just bought one of the new ones and it is awesome.  i know some people that have bought the revo and have not been satisfied with it.  they said in their first outing using it it had problems. a shimano will last you a lot longer, get the curado. i have a lot of the older models and they are still working without problems. ;)

fishing user avatarKU_Bassmaster. reply :

Another Shimano posse member here.  I have swerved off the Shimano path a couple times in the past few years ......... NEVER AGAIN.

fishing user avatarshimanogloomis man reply :

Posse ? Its more like mobile talking billboards who try to shove Shimano stuff in every post. Lmao.... Why don't you buy a gift certificate and let your Dad decide. After all he is the one who is going to use it. If you want to buy a very good Shimano product, buy a Shimano triple impact lure. Its a real nice Shimano product. ;D Ivan
fishing user avatarben23 reply :

I'm a daiwa guy, and have some japan version daiwa alphas and daiwa alphas ito.....I LOVE THEM

Recently I got the NEW Curado, and it blew away my old one. It casts smooth, and the reeling is even smoother. It shocked me to see how much they improved on the old plastic curado. Check out tackletour.com 's review on each of the reels. They gave the curado editors choice.

I highly reccomend it.

ALSO: I dont know how the Abu Garcia warranty is, but with shimano, you will never have to pay anything to replace a broken reel- even though they rarely break.

I'm in no way the shimano posse, but I am just sharing my experiences.

;)

fishing user avatarjayhawkfishin reply :

Curado 100D

He will love it.

fishing user avatarroadwarrior reply :

castaway,

The posse is a joke.

None of us are sponsoed by Shimano or have ANY financial affiliation with the company. We simply like Shimano reels. I have NO argument about anyone else's favorite reel, but Shimano has worked for me.

fishing user avatarFishTank reply :

I too was a little overwhelmed by how much this forum is pro Shiman. But after purchasing a couple,  I can't argue.  I have purchased five different reels this year and I like the Shimanos the best.

I have the 2005 version of the Curado and I love it.  I can't imagine how they were able to improve on it.

So I guess there is another vote for the Shimano Curado.

Yeah,I just put that in there because the guy was about to get bombarded with Shimano testimonials.

I was well aware of that, just took the time to take a turn at stirring the pot.  ;D  I wasn't kidding about the Shimano triple impact lure though.

I have experienced TONS of problems with the old curado.  I had a worm gear go bad right out of the box, then on the replacement, the reel was so rough when you reeled it in and was extremely noisy on the cast.  That one was 100$  So with the new one they gave it a silver paint job then they added a bearing or two and they added a few little do-dads and they charge another hundred for it.  IMO rip off for a very unsmooth reel.  Just my opinion

fishing user avatarlubina reply :

Long time ago I fall to the Curado anachronism. My last one is still visible througth the hole in the garage wall. Since then I considere Shimano USA a dinousaure in reel development.

The Revo, depends of models, carry the heavier drag it the marquet ( about 24 lbs ) and one of the faster retrieve ( 31 ipc ) Their weigh being also very competitive. No one Jappy reel had ever offer this. And you can change your cast control settings just with a touch of your fingers.....something to think about ;)

fishing user avatarcastaway reply :

Dang it Senko, They are going to make you type Shimano is great 1000 times in a post as a form of punishment, if you don't mend your ways, they will send you a Shimano tackle pack, rod and reel and as an additional bonus, you will get the new Shimano subliminal message tape to listen to while you sleep. ;D Ivan

fishing user avatarbassclown reply :

i have several brands of reels (pflueger, quantum, garcia, and shimano). out of those i would recommend the shimano 1st.

fishing user avatarshortbasser reply :

I have been a die-hard Quantum BC user ever since the first Energy reels hit the market and have several of the PT versions also.

I recently purchased my first ever Abu reel. After reading the dope on the field test for the Revo STX I took the plunge. I must say it is smooth and has performed flawlessly. That drag and brake adjustment is slick. I see another one added to my arsenal before spring.

My only gripe up to this point (today) is that we are in the middle of a big ole Northeaster that is pouring down the rain and wind and that has me housebound and keeping me from more break-in time.

Definately the RevoSTX.

Like he says. The Revo is work horse, 24 lbs max. drag weight, 11 bb.....and you don't have to take the reel apart when you need to change your cast control settings.

fishing user avatarcart7t reply :

Another vote for the Revo. I wish I was getting one for Christmas.

fishing user avatarBassassasin12 reply :

when i have chilldren, I hope they are alot like you.... ;) ;D. Either one, I would go with the revo.
